Prada F/W 2020.21 Milan

Its pretty basic if you look closer and like we are not giving free passes to Miuccia anymore (which is fair) this is what it is.

I dont want nothing groundbreaking from her, i just wish the clothes were more elevate, with that fashion flair that she used to serve: ironic, easy and chic. You used to know when someone was wearing Prada at the first look, now if I see someone wearing this, it could be anything.

honestly I just want ro delete the message now but I can't! Does anyone know how to delete messages? It was just a quick thought I had when I saw the second coat where the fringes looked like the model's hair.

I love your comment, i find very interesting this type of styling that mix hair and clothes, if I could i would give a try .

oh thanks! :)

The first 1/3 is fine. Her collections are plagued with too many ideas and silhouettes and doo-dads...clearly the merchandizing team is up her butt.

The other thing she must do in order to freshen things up, is she must stop with the big sets. If she went back to the minimal and intimate runways of her 90’s and early 00’s shows, it would automatically put these clothes in a different context that might alleviate some of the exhaustion I think we all feel from Prada.

Miuccia has become a fashion version of an old rock star: she keeps making a living using her "greatest hits" from her glorious past. Sad to remember when Prada behaved like a harbinger of the new...

yes, i agree with the "less is more" idea.
Right.

We all know Prada is on financially unstable ground...and it hasn’t really improved much for the last 5, 6, 7 years. You always see some article pop up on BoF about Prada’s precarious financial situation.

So it’s no secret...we all know. These big sets and productions and heavily merchandised collection feel like Prada is sipping champagne on the sinking Titanic.

Miuccia should take note of what Marc is having to do with financial constraints that have forced him to reign in his shows and collections in a big way. Sure, it took him a good 2 years or so to come up with something really, really great now this season, but I think having some constraints pushed him there and being forced to work within a box instead of always feeling obligated to do “out of the box” is sometimes the right creative challenge when you’re stuck in a rut like this.

^^
And one could believe that a brand that is struggling at this level (still a major force) would come up with exciting bags and shoes...No, basic bags in saffiano leather and weird shoes only great for IG or fashion shows.

That’s where Fendi is ahead of Prada! One successful bag (the peekaboo has been there for 11years) in new alterations and practical and yet desirable shoes that people could actually wear and love for many seasons.

When you see more logos on a Prada runway than at Gucci or Fendi, you know times are tough!

As crazy and self-referential as this collection is, this feels like classic Prada to me and I love it.

I'm on a fence here. I like the idea of it, heavy self-referencial and all, but I still think some of the pieces are fabulous, especially the fringe items. But god, they are really after the young and IG crew here. I knew that the Nylon logo bags has become quite a thing for the hypebeast. I didn't realize they feel the need to put them on the runway so much. Also from my personal experience, their bags and shoes quality are also subpar from before. So yeah, the accessories department are also struggling.

I just realized what those hair scarves remind me of.

I'm really at a loss for words. The collection started off strong. Meghan and Elise sold those looks without a doubt. The following 10 looks were excellent. Then came the fringe. I went from smiling to rolling my eyes when I watched the livestream. It was like Miu Miu Spring 2014, but through drugged out glasses. The fringe served no purpose. It was just tacked on at the last minute, and in very strange places. The organza dresses were Fall 2011 mixed with the leggings from Fall 2016. They were far more superior back then. The purple and yellow couture potato sacks had no business in this show. The puffer coats were fabulous, but were almost ruined by the usual heavy handed styling. The look on Kiki was one of my favorites. It was a throwback to the fairy collection, so I couldn't help but love it. The same goes for the last three looks. She exeuted those satin sets flawlessly. Lexi's outfit was also one of the best in the collection, but of course they just had to throw on an ugly bag and bracelet. I don't like that she did a greatest hits collection. I could understand if this was an anniversary collection, but it's not. She would have been better off reissuing the orignal reference looks. I can't defend her anymore. If the brand goes down in flames it will be of her own doing.
