Prada Uomo AW 05-06

I don't love anything here. I don't think I'd buy any of it, even at 75% off. The red coat's alright, but it doesn't get me excited.

i agree, the collection is baaaad. its like im watching that 70s show.

Hmm can't say I'm really excited about it but there's a few nice pieces here and there, like some of the sweaters. That picture with the glasses looks really weird though.

well...i love it so far...defintitely a continuation of the theme she started with a/w 04 womenswear...but i loved that ...so it's interesting to see it re-interpreted for menswear...

and i am really impressed with the styling...every guy got a hat...(sometimes two...:woot:)...and i loved the gloves and the layering...all of it...very well styled with elegance and restraint...never over the top...(like the silly flowers aat burberrry...)
love the semisheer sweaters...and the spice colours...
i'm surprised to see how much i appreciate this collection...very nice...imo...

This blue coat will be mine.

As will this simply for the fact it looks like what Jean Reno wears in Leon to keep his artillery in place.

I really like it too. I love the color palette and the different rich fabrics. I also like that she's showing very classic pieces that are updated through their combinations and detailing.

I like it too:-) A lot of details. The colour palette is v.nice and the fabrics have nice textures. The cuts are even more relaxed than at Jil:-) Hats are cool.

haha I dig the Leon reference.

This collection is definitely better than Jil Sander, that's for sure. :innocent:

i am very disappointed with this collection, it's just what the ordinary design miss prada did. No suprises at all...:(

The coats might be relaxed but the material is stiff :-) and the single-breasted jkts are cut v.sharp with tight trousers. The suits fabrics are quite shiny, or maybe it is just the pictures, I am not sure:-)

Quite a lot is in beige and camel:-P

I'm not too crazy about the hats, they look like oversized designer condoms. :p

this, the red coat and the short caramel box jacket are the only pieces i like from what i've seen that far... needless to say i'm quite dissapointed, too mainstream for Prada...
if it wasnt for the FAB hats it would be totally zzzzzz in my book

I agree with Lena, apart from the bits that she likes! I don't think I like any of it really. If it wasn't for (a) the hats and (b) the fact that we know that it's Prada, would any of us really look twice at this? It's just bland Euro-chic, like Valentino et al. My view is that Ms Prada likes to think she's more directional that she actually is (it's the marc jacobs syndrome again). At the same time knows that her sales will come from the aforementioned bland Euro-chic, so she's fine. Just chuck in a few hats and keep the ads edgy and she's happy, but produce rows and rows of camel sweaters, and her husband's happy. Success!

i can see mr Prada putting preassure on mrs Prada towards 'safer' collections..
obviously thats the way 'vision-less' industrialists see fit to react at times of 'hard' economic enviroment ...and of course its a huge, not to say fatal mistake...

in 'hard' times people need more 'interesting' clothes and less 'basic/classic' looks, but most brands seem to completely miss the point.. this unfortunately goes from Zara and h&m down to Prada, creating more 'hard times' for them and less fun shopping for us.
of course the market is stagnant, why should anyone dream of owning something so straight looking and classic..makes no sense, does it?
where is the inspiration? where is the theme? where is the charm?
Hence my/our liking for the hats, at least those look pretty fresh :D

its a vicious circle, i'm sure mrs Miuccia can see this but i bet shes tired fighting with her 'industrialist' company director husband ..sad no?

I actually think also the Muiccia isn't inspired by designing menwear (to the extent she actually does) and so she is much less innovative than she is with her womenswear. Yes the hats are nice but they are fairly sexless. I suspect Milan isn't a very inspiring place for menwear designers anyway.

I am jaded about the Prada machine anyway - I think she is talented of course but growing the global brand seems too important to her & her husband. I get fed up with the excuse that she is the tortured artist - she must also want to go down the route her husband is taking the group.

I always think Prada plays a great game - impress the critics with the talent of muiccia, but dress the masses with boring, overpriced clothes that never show up on the catwalk.....(or challenge the conventional middle classes notions of aesthetics - after all it is their custom Prada relies upon).

end of rant. sorry

It is sad, I agree Lena. Perhaps I'm being a bit too harsh on Ms Prada. I was talking to my wife recently about the shoes she used to do for men when her first full menswear collections came out (around mid 90s I think, when I could never afford anything from her). They were superb, and completely different from the stuff that comes out now, different from most things at the time. I remember strange colours, rounded toes, not the sleek black pointy toed things that are around now.

One thing I would say about prada is that it is for a mass produced brand very high quality. I'd still buy prada for that - for a slightly more modern version of a classic pair of business shoes or a shirt for example, for not for anythign for the weekend, so to speak.

yes.. looking forward to miumiu uomo.. lets hope it will be less 'safe' than Prada
