Racial Diversity In Modeling

God I wish I were an editor. And has anyone noticed that none of the top asian girls are never in vogue or how it seems no one is pulling from the beautiful and ethnically diverse black girls of the US who run the gambit of Halle Berry to Debra Shaw.

And is anyone wondering where Andre is in all of this. He's the editor in cheif can't he pull some strings and put more than one black model in vogue.

@christion couture

That's my favorite model ever! :woot: :buzz:

Yeah...sometimes I think she is the real brasilian beauty. I mean dark eyes, dark hair tanned, sultry has a booty. I mean I love Gisele but she doesn't reallly represent the exotic land of Brasil. :D ;) :ninja: but that's off topic :p

She's one of mine too! I guess she doesn't look white enough to be featured on US Vogue. Those eyebrows are so Brooke Shields!

Andre is the Editor at large. I'm not sure why he's not stepping up to the plate. I guess he did his part by getting Jennifer Hudson on the cover. I wonder why her cover was so ugly. None of the other celebrity covers look like that. A lot of ethnic people in the industry don't speak up because they are afraid of being labeled as the "Angry (ethnic) person."

Im glad i wasn't the only one that thought that Jennifer looked like a reality tv reject. :ninja:

That didn't bother me very much but there was one fold-out cover that had one model I can't remember, and Naomi on the fold. They could have easily put them both together!

I don't understand why they do stuff like that. If you dont want Blacks on the cover, don't insult them by placing them on the fold out flap. That makes it even worse.

Anyone else notice how Chanel Iman was on the fold-over part of the cover of Vogue?

And your point? Raquel Zimmermann, Jessica Stam, Agyness Deyn and Coco Rocha were all on the fold-over part of Vogue as well. You can only fit so many people on one page.

^^^ Yeah..that's what I said too. ;) And Chanel is one of the least succseful of the bunch..well I think.

not really, 1992 US Vogue, april issue = 10 models

You would think they would put her on the cover to show the diversity in the new top models. It was so typical and predictable to put the only black on the fold-out page.

IMO chanel was only put on that color because she was the token black model. it's sad that people don't appreciate models of all ethnicities, but i think extending affirmitive action to fashion magazines is ridiculous.

agree ^_^

btw, why there is a thread called Top African and Black Models? exclusively for pictures of black models, why only black ones?

isn't that discriminative?
Isn't that being racist?
Isn't that segregative?

and curiously the most of the posters there are black people, I don't understand, they ask for equality and they do the same.

and not only that, they are talking about creating a forum/blog only related with black models, aren't we talking about diversity?

TFS forum are the best example of diveristy, why creating another one only for certain race? THAT'S WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND

I think you're sad for accepting inequality in the world. This is not only about models and covers as I stated previously. This goes hand in hand with any other industry as well. Are you really telling me that affirmitive action should only be extended in select fields and industries? Should non-whites not be allowed to participate in major league baseball as well? Should we not have extended affirmitve action in that field?

Joseph, those are funny comments coming from someone who posts in the thread as well.

btw, why there is a thread called Top African and Black Models? ...

There are threads about Eastern European models. Poor Eastern European models getting segregated by getting their own thread! Not to be rude, but for some reason, whenever the word 'black' is attached to something, people are either assuming segregation or affirmative action.

please please please please please stop associating ebony, essence, etc. with vogue...

they are NOT the same thing...:hardhead:
those are culture magazines, not fashion magazines...
oprah's magazine has fashion in it, that doesn't make it a fashion magazine...

we are talking here about having minority women in a fashion magazine...
i don't understand why it's so far out of the mind of some people that vogue, which touts itself as "the leader in fashion magazines" would have minorities in it...
i don't need to see a black women on the cover every single month, but a mix of models, inside and out would be nice...
it doesn't mean i want vogue to cover my culture...
i have other magazines to read for that, as do hispanics, asians, europeans, etc.

if fashion is universal, then it should have models from all over the world...

fouroclock you are so right...
there's also a thread called "your favorite short models"
they have NOTHING to do with segregation...

joseph26, how do you know most of the posters in there are black?
i don't recall filling out a race selection when i joined tfs...
you only know someone's race if they mention it...

The whole point of the thread was to bring light to black models nothing more....what your saying doesn't make sense, it was not made to be malicious how do you propose we celebrate models of any certain race?(its a sad fact but race still matters) Its like saying well its sexist when theres a thread about "what to do about pms" or its racist when there a thread on "Russian models"..the whole point is to highlight a certain aspect of fashion its not meant to make a place where certain people aren't welcome...really its not that serious. All some of the posters here are asking is that vogue show a more diverse look at women and fashion and based on what you said they should do so because there not called Vogue: The Fair Skinned edition:flower:
