Rapper Akon in trouble for simulated r*pe of a minor on stage

^Actually, it's more understandable now I know where the law applies to. I thought it was talking about America.

It was true in all American states as recently as 1976. There was something called the Marital r*pe Exemption in the r*pe laws that made it impossible for a husband to be charged with the r*pe of his wife no matter what the evidence.

And as of 1996, only 17 states and DC had completely abolished the Marital r*pe Exemption.

Here's some recent info, some promising, some very disheartening.

Anastasia - I can' t believe the state of the world we live in...it seems that dogs, plants, birds and any other thing on earth is of much better importance that women!
not only in terms of freedom, but also in terms of respect of the human being, equality, and so forth.
this is all very disgusting and it is more so because the vast majority of people out there(women and men) refuse to face and understand the problem - most of the people IO came across in life truly believed that women had the same opportunities, respect...as men!!!!

While the dust is settling for Akon after his simulated onstage r*pe of a 15-year-old Minister's daughter in Trinidad, TMZ has uncovered some racy photos of her -- on the little miss' MySpace page.

Danah Alleyne, or as she call herself on MySpace, "Diva Trixie," claims to be 19 and writes, "I'm a b*tch oh well... ima b*tch, ive got class, mess wid me and i'll kick ur ***!!"

A 15-year-old searching for her identity probably shouldn't be looking for it in an 18-and-over club, especially at an Akon concert!Danah has posted a picture from the night of the controversial event, and the caption says, "girls nite out! best time!!" Not quite the way she described the evening to the Trinidad Express.

I seriously can't believe people here were implying that he was some sort of r*pist. A classless turd? Yes. A r*pist? No. This chick obviously realized that it would be better for her if she cried wolf rather than admitting that indeed, she, the daughter of a preacher, snuck into a concert and acted that way.

Girls like that make me sick. 1 in 3 women are raped or sexually assualted in their lifetime and these idiots make it more difficult for the true victims to report their victimization. And age has nothing to do with it. Obviously a lot of people haven't been in high school recently. I'm only 18 and I know girls that are sometimes 4 years younger than me who sleep around and do all sorts of "favors" for no apparent reason.

But she's a minor, engaging in simulated sex with an adult. I wonder if Trinidad has such a law, where it's illegal for an adult to have sex with a minor?

^ Statutory r*pe to me, especially in this case, is pointless. This girl lies about her age. Anyway, a 15 year old female knows the difference between right and wrong. Especially one who's been raised in the church her entire life! People act like teenage girls are complete and total mormons. Yes, we may often act as such but I've been aware of the difference between acts that are good and ones that are bad since I was a toddler. It doesn't take a judge and jury to admit that you made a stupid mistake. He's gross, but as long as people are willing to subject themselves to humiliation, he can continue to do whatever he does. Many, many females are up for objectification when it comes to celebrities.

And the age of consent in T&T is 16.

^ It was public until TMZ released the address. And she posted a picture of herself at the concert. Maybe it's someone with her exact name and outfit?

Funny... Page one she's with her father with the conviniently placed cross in the background. I click on the last page and there's that pic of her on TMZ. HAHA! This sounds like a typical case of preacher's daughter turning sl*tty and lying about her age to have fun - sad thing is, when girls do this men are the ones who get in trouble unintentionally.

The thing that bothered me about a YT news report video was some lady defending Akon, basically saying that hey, this was an 18 an over club, this girl was underage, she knew his songs so therefore she knew what would've happened to her - it smacked of the typical response to "she deserved it because she knew/should've known what was coming to her" when a woman is abused. Though of course, this whole situation is different.

...or perhaps, when the public became aware of this crazy incident, someone set up a MySpace site pretending to be Danah Alleyne? It's amazing what can be done with Photoshop these days.

At this point, Akon's publicity people are working overtime to do whatever they can to create contrary opinions. No matter how I slice it, I still think this whole thing is grotesque.

Exactly. And you know, people who grew up with ministers or preachers for parents, or in very religious homes are the worst rebels. They go buckwild. I know a girl who grew up in a prominent Mormon family. Her grandfather was a church official and next thing you know, she was pregnant at 15 or 16.

I agree that blaming the victim is wrong. But people jumped to conclusions way too fast! THe evidence speaks for itself. She made a mistake and what he did was wrong, but it was disgusting of her to play the victim card when she was obviously not as innocent as she portrayed herself to be.

As for someone photoshopping pictures of her........ PLEASE. That's beyond reaching! Shockingly enough, not all 15 year olds are perfect angels. My mother got pregnant with my sister when she was 15 and the father was 27. She had lied to him about her age the entire time. I've never once heard her blame the father or play the victim. Everyone makes mistakes. It's better to just admit them and move on than to lie.

I'm a preacher's kid. My mum was 16 and my dad 25 when they married in 1959. He wasn't a preacher or even so religious then, I take it. They're still married, and my brothers and sisters and I did run amok.

I wouldn't say it was rebelliousness, but rather Bible stories which taught us that life has consequences. And, my, were we so very eager for consequences. A certain boldness comes with faith, I think.;>

This girl will do just fine.

It's so easy to make up a myspace page for somebody else. Heck, I have pictures of my friends that even they don't have anymore. Who knows maybe it is her page but all I'm saying is one shouldn't jump to conclusions and automatically assume it's her. Most people thought Lindsay's myspace was authentic until she came out saying it wasn't on national TV.

^ OK, but even so, there were topless pictures of her and pictures with her friends at the Akon concert. It's really reaching to assume that someone photoshopped pictures of her and created a page of her. I would put good money against that. Think about it, it really sounds ridiculous. She's probably just like every other 15 year old on the planet with a MySpace. I think that's FAR more probable.

Yeah no kidding.

I never said anything was photoshopped :x Just that nowadays the majority of digital photographs are public domain, even after showing them to one person they get around.

The thought of photoshopping never occured to me to be honest..

I don't know why I'm defending her, I'm not really. I just like throwing another opinion out there :P

Regardless if she's 19 or 15. Akon is a 35 year old man. It has been revealed from his old prison records. He's been saying he's 25. He has as many wives as "he can afford". Should he be charged with a crime? NO. Should he be looked down upon because he's a 35 year old trying to pass himself off as 25 and having many wives? Yes. Does he deserve the sucess he has? NO. Every song of his sounds the same. He's a pig.

Personally, I don't care if she's 15 or 19, or if it was forced or consensual (of course the former choices make it worse) I still think it's disgusting, unacceptable public behavior, and contributes greatly to the view of women as sexual chattel who exist solely for the pleasure and service of men.

When I, a perfectly respectable, modestly dressed, mature woman gets rubbed up against in public or grabbed at, it's because of morons like Akon perpetuating and celebrating the idea that because I possess breasts and a vagina, I am somehow less deserving of basic respect.

In the middle ages they had to call all heads of church and state together and seriously discuss whether or not women had souls or were we like animals, designed to be nothing more than beasts of burden, breeders, and temptresses for men. When I listen to Akon's lyrics, and see him treating a strange woman/girl like that publicly (if you and your partner want to have rough sex, Godspeed, it's different) it gives me the same sense of queasy outrage as when I read my history texts.

But a lot of people dance like this. It's horrible and really disgusting to watch, but it's not because of Akon that those "moves" exist and can be done in public. At my high school homecoming this year, everyone was grinding and basically simulating sex on the dance floor, except for like five people (myself included. I don't know how I turned out to be such a prude). And the general school population is upper-middle class, suburban, and predominately white.

Yes Akon's music is crap, and the theme of his music is pathetic and sexist. But this isolated occurence...it's just one of many, of probably thousands+ people dancing like that. The only real blame we can put on Akon is for the content of his "music". This thing with the 15-year-old, that's just a symptom of society more than anything else imo. As in, that a 15-year-old could dress like this, dance like this with no qualms, that Akon would be allowed to dance like that in public. His fame is also a symptom of society, that we let him and others like him be famous. But the only real thing we can blame Akon for is making bad music (and being an ***hole, but I don't feel qualified to say that because I don't know the guy, or even read/hear about him other than this thread).
