It was true in all American states as recently as 1976. There was something called the Marital r*pe Exemption in the r*pe laws that made it impossible for a husband to be charged with the r*pe of his wife no matter what the evidence.
And as of 1996, only 17 states and DC had completely abolished the Marital r*pe Exemption.
