Just saw "Blue Valentine"...I love Ryan in this film, his acting and Charisma. I think he styled himself in this film also

Here's how fast things move in Hollywood. At Cannes, I got my confirmations and revealed that Ryan Gosling would direct and star in MGM's remake of The Idolmaker. Now, a couple weeks later, I get to report that he's had to back out of the picture, at least for now. He just informed the studio he would be too busy. He's in pre-production on A Place Beyond the Pines, which reteams him with Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance, and then Gosling moves immediately into the Ruben Fleischer-directed Gangster Squad, starring with Sean Penn and Josh Brolin in the period crime drama for Warner Bros. MGM is convinced that Idolmaker is a plum project and the studio and will continue developing the picture. If Gosling is available, they will revisit it down the line. It is fun to watch Gosling's transformation from darling of the independent film set to arguably the most coveted young leading man for studio films. After turning down lead roles in recent years I've heard included Superman, Jack Ryan, Akira and The Lone Ranger, Gosling is suddenly giving the studios a chance. He impressed the Cannes set with the Nicolas Refn-directed Drive, and Warner Bros is offering him everything after testing Crazy, Stupid, Love, with the studio getting Gosling to reteam with Refn in a remake of Logan's Run. It looks like MGM will have to find another star for its Idolmaker, the remake of the Taylor Hackford-directed film that starred the late Ray Sharkey as a music promoter.

oh no! i totally agree with you, i was just referring to the fact he does lots of diverse stuff already (and getting praised for it), so i wouldn't be surprised if he starts directing too (he recently did shot those short movies while filming Ides of March tho..the ones he posted on twitter). he's just entering his most prominent part of his acting career IMO.I truly believe that Ryan Gosling is an absolutely brilliant actor, I think he is the best of his generation. But don't you guys think that it is a bit soon for him to direct, he never had any formal training, and he hasn't really even worked with any of the masters of cinema, the bulk of his work is in independent cinema. I just wish he still focused a bit on the acting and like Deniro cross over in his 40's.
And also he understands how important it is for an actor to keep a low profiel and avoids the whole fame game.

Neither of the actors is admitting to anything serious. "She's an incredible actress; she's a good friend," Gosling told PEOPLE at a lunch Thursday for Blue Valentine in New York at the Kimberly Hotel.

bit off topic, but she went to visit him in Canada too at the time, so there was some kind of hookup def. short, but there was something.Do you really think he took her to a date at Disneyland? I think he just met her there. I mean he goes there all the time, Blake does too. Ryan was there with his assistant/friend. I doubt he would take his assistant with him on a date with another girl lol.
