S/S 2009 Ad Campaigns (please read post #1 before posting)

The problem with ad campaigns is the constant seeking for that fresh new look, even though women such as Anja R and Jessica S have still prevailed, how long will it take for them to be under the pump. Well maybe not them but a lot of editorial work goes to these younger women, who are not fit for these particular campaigns instead of those who have been around the block. Pretty dissapointing.

it's pretty strange to go from linda evangelista to a bunch of new faces without any reason to exist

lol cruel, but kind of true... don't see in any of them a gemma, daria, stam or trentini to last more than 3 or 4 seasons on the top...

You have a point, but Linda Evangelista looked HORRIBLE in the campaign. This campaign looks fresh. It's pleasant to look at, and eye-catching for the right reasons. The emphasis is on the clothing, accessories and the brand's vision, rather then on a model.

buuuut you perfectly know, that when a big name is in a campaign, people stop and stare at it more carefully. that's what i do if a see a good model in a campaign. other than that, if a see a lot of useless models, of course i look more the clothes, but my attention on the page is 2 second. with linda, horrible or not, at least 1 minute :)

And who decides which models have a "reason to exist"? I find that very questionnable and rude towards those girls.

They are working hard to become good models and for most it's their first or second season and they are put under too much pressure I think. Why not just give them the chance if Miucca and Steven Meisel think they deserve it.

I do agree that famous models bring more attention, BUT if a famous model is in an awful campaign (and if she herself is making it awful) that makes it much more worse, and definitely can make me not want to have that clothes.
On the other hand if the girls are unknown, but campaign turns out to be fabulous and eye catching, that brings even more attention to the clothes and can make me want to buy it.

I partially agree with you, today's good models have been new faces one day. And even though I like the new Prada campaign, I have a feeling that two or three of those girls will make it "big", while the others will fade with one season or two. It's always great for model to be able to say she was in a Prada campaign but for me it doesn't seem that important when you share it with 7 other models whose faces we can't see properly and that in a few seasons will probably have faded.

I do think they have a reason to exist. I mean we need new models, my point is making a little investment on 8 new models' careers at once, putting them on a Prada campaign, is not a good deal because imo it doesn't help any of them enough. I wish each of them had solo shots.

Of course i judge them in the fashion field. my point about "reason to exist" is not out of their job, because i don't who how good they are in life.
and my point of view born when i see that all of them are the same. a model has a reason to exist when her face is so particular that you will remember her and her career will fly thanks to that diversity she has.
in this campaign of prada, it could be perfectly the same girl x 8 because they are all the same and noone will never ask: who is that? i wanna see more of her. they don't catch any any any attention.

and here my point: how sad to jump from linda to 7/8 blonde cloned models.
at least one brunette then. come on prada is an italian brand, we italian wants to see some of us on the fashion magazines!

ugh, the same girls with multiple campaigns this season. some girls i love, more girls i'm indifferent with. it's kind of unfair.

I completely agree w/ you

I've seen a lot of the new campaigns today, and I just love this one.

I'm not totally sure if M Missoni warrants its own thread, but I think it is amazing. If a mod decides it should, feel free to post the pics.:flower:B)

Karmen Pedaru for M Missoni.

(my own scans)

That first image looks CoverGirl... Karmen looks pretty as usual, though. Thanks for the scan. :flower:
