Saint Laurent S/S 2014 Paris

I won't deny that the tailoring on some jackets are amazing. But then come baby doll dresses and the cheapest-looking flame-sequined top. It just gave a me a little distasteful feeling in my mouth.

for me this is season-less, could be a part of last season he did for saint laurent. but nice set and music.

I don't understand the heaps of praise that people are throwing his way. This collection is just..... -_- <<<the epitome of that emoji
It's like Express staged a runway show.

The golden dress reminds me of the ubiquitous Balmain one a while ago. Really similar. I think some pieces are under desgined, some are tacky and cheap but some are truly beautiful. Much better than last collection (which I loathed I first but somehow managa to fall in love with it in the end amen)

First, amazing set and music...as always. Second, amazing jackets, love that motorcycle with cropped sleeves, all very jetset and rockstar. This looks like it could have been paraded as the femme version of his Dior Homme, so in a way he delivered finally as expected. However, there isn't enough ideas going on, a collection can't all be pants, flippy tiny chiffon dresses, mini skirts and one shoulder tops, he has to step up with experimentation and new designs, the way Raf Simons did, stick his neck out to create new forms, new shapes, new details in motion, etc. Otherwise, it is still too familiar, though easy to wear, but the skirts and dresses shouln't be worn by anyone over 25, over 100 lbs, or with cellulite!

 exactly what I've been saying more indirectly... :flower:

And I totally agree with you about all the rest: the music, the set, the more accessible clothes...etc.

I hope Kate Moss agrees with you too,^_^ though she would look great in the jackets!

Yes, some individual pieces are wearable. The tailored suits, trousers, shirts, and maybe a couple of skirts. They work by themselves well and well, but the whole styling is blahhh, and the dresses, c'mon, that shape/design is already available in stores, like 5 seasons ago.

(I saw the tailored stuff in my local store and yes, they are really well-made, but some of the T-shirts and other stuff I just went OMG like what print is that.

But I have to be honest, the accessories, esp the Museum line with the textured leather looks good, however, albeit too The Row/Victoria Beckham.)

So, YSL/SLP is now more of an "accessories" brand than it was in Stefano Pilati days? The Muse, Muse Two, Rive Gauche, Downton, Easy were great bags and I see people using them on the street, but people do buy the clothes when SP was designing them, at least I do. Now, it seems like people are buying the bags and only the bags and nothing else from the brand. I asked around my social circle and no one seems to buy SLP clothes anymore.

Hence, I am just curious, how many of the supporters here do buy Saint Laurent Paris? Can you guys share where do you wear the clothes to (because for most of the pieces, the only place I can think of is "to the clubs". You can't wear them to school, for business presentations, or more serious stuff)?

I think we have to accept Hedi's vision. Yes it all looks familiar from 10 or more years ago, because these are the trends he created 10 years ago with Dior Homme. Now he is just rehashing these ideas into womenswear, perhaps it's a little too late for everyone...

But I agree there is definitely Decarnin's Balmain in some pieces, which are a complete disaster. However, some pieces the tailoring is superb and I can definitely see the Saint Laurent woman.

I did buy a pair of leather sneakers and would also want to buy a bag. I actually like the fact that the designs are very subtle and not over-design.

T-shirts and all I wouldnt buy cos they are too generic.

some shirts are nice but I ll have to wait and see.

In general, I think this collection is very fresh, at least the way it is presented is, but I suspected you have to have the whole works, and the attitude to pull it off like the models, else it is easy to look like a hooker or junkie.

I have like slimane for slp since day one and this one didnt fail as well.

:D

I think he just understand the market really well. Maybe it looks like common trend that you can see in the street, like stuff that you would buy in zara, except you get the nice cut and the nice fabric for that along with an actual brand name on it. Rich women don't go to zara. They have expectations for the products they buy. It's not because you are rich that you have to hang out all day in your face printed rainbow colored Prada fluffy fur or with your flashy arty printed dress from dior. Saint laurent is just proposing basics that are actually not so basic since they're a bit twisted and sometimes have some nicely thinked details (like the babydoll dress that gracie van gastel is wearing in the dance video that looks simple at first look but is actually half transparent once in motion) he is not creating trends, he is not innovating but these are most likely never going to be out of fashion. And if he is not creating trends, he is still setting them. Look at all the hate at his second women collection and look at all the grune everything grunge everywhere grunge all over who took down the entire fashion world these months, editorial, magazines etc, even in the streets seen on the "lambda customers". So it´s going to sell, again, and pretty well haha

i find watching photos of a hedi show without seeing the actual runway presentation live is kind of like analyzing a music video through still shots.. i mean i wasn't too impressed until watching the electrifying video.. that intro alone is pretty mind blowing.. and love the speed and attitude that the girls display over the uptempo soundtrack.. what first may seem like bad taste all of a sudden becomes sexy & appealing.. anyways i see a lot of cues from the SS14 mens show.. lazy or consistent? you be the judge...

Haha I never expect a reply so fast, but I was half expecting someone who buy the clothes to reply.

Hmmm so I assume that only the accessories spoke to you but not the clothes? Same for me, which is why I question is SLP an "accessories" brand more than YSLRG era, because people do only talk about the accessories now (and yes, people do also talk about the clothes, but it seems like they are thrashing the clothes).

When they say SLP is a retailers' heaven, I was wondering, is it in terms of clothes, or in terms of accessories (shoes, bags, leather goods)? Lulu, Betty, Duffel, Museum, yes, simple, not over designed. The clothes, people can look like hookers in them. In fact when Kate Moss wore that pants-less look, she looked like a hooker, not a model.

Rich women don't go to zara.

Nah, you are wrong, rich Asians women do go to Zara. Just look at the number of women with Hermes bags and Louboutin shoes in the store during the sale season whom you also meet at the gala dinners.

Anyway Hedi Slimane reminds me of another designer: Pierre Cardin. They pioneered certain looks (HS: skinny, PC: space), but 10, 20 years down the road, they still insist on just doing whatever they want and not caring if the folks have moved on.

And yah, can those who buy the clothes (not just the simple shirts and tailored blazers, the real hardcore runway looks like the belt skirts, the babydoll dresses, the star-prints cardigan, or even the skinny skinny pants and the super short skirts) shed some light on where do you wear them to?

Or do you guys really buy them?

you can go to a store and find these pieces ITA
except whos that girl - madonna pieces /shoes^_^

I don't know if i don't hate it or just because it's getting familiar. I quite like the stage and the opening. How about the clothes? i don't give a damn.

@blackcherrified: the clothing isn't meant for the procter & gamble boardroom if that's what you are asking.. then again most high fashion isn't.. clearly SLP is more evening wear oriented and focuses on a youthful appeal.. but unless you are going for the integral runway look you can easily mix & match most items found in stores with more conservative pieces.. the menswear is even more wearable since for the most part consisting of shrunken monochromatic lux versions of LA thrift store finds.. in that sense i think there is a right balance struck at SLP, especially considering the unisex crossover potential..

But would a young reputable lady wear the belt skirt, or any dresses (not looks, just the dress on its own) in the Fall 2013 collection to a black tie charity gala organised by her mum? Not unless she wants to get grounded for a week at home with the keys to her Audi/BMW taken from her.

As for the menswear (because I live in the tropical climate), yeh, maybe only the simple black tailored look will sell here, but definitely not the sequinned ones (and to tell the truth, I haven't seen any of the sequinned/bling stuff in the local stores).

I agree that SLP is more evening oriented, but it depends on what kind of evening we are talking about I guess. Black tie dinner=no, thrash clubbing nights=Yes, and that is, I think, what people are not looking for in YSL/SLP. I guess a lot of long time YSL customers like me started out looking at YSL for things to wear for a proper evening and we realised, hey, these clothes can be worn on other occasions too when we paired it with other stuff.

But my ultimate question here is, yes, the accessories sell, the tailored/conservative pieces sell, but what about the outlandish pieces that define the collection and become the main subject? Do they sell? Or do they not sell at all? And SLP now only serves the girl at night (e.g. Betty Catroux) and no longer the woman who has a job in the day, spends her Sunday morning having brunch at the Ritz or some fancy hotel (e.g. Catherine Deneuve)?

(Anyway after looking at three seasons of runway shows, the only clothes that I do see people wearing comes from the first, which is more legitimate for a proper evening. The latest two, no.)

Most of his clothes are for the hype/new brand image IMO (= cool young girl)

But he did show a couple of gowns for Resort that stand a chance of appearing at a black tie event or gala, worn by young or not so young, cool or not so cool girls. Plus I expect a lot of modified versions of the runway pieces to land at the stores eventually.
