Sarah Burton - Designer, Creative Director of Givenchy

For me, she had two phases, maybe three, but that was more due to uncertainty about the direction the brand should take after McQueen's death than her vision evolving (at least that's the impression I got). I base my opinion on her last few collections because these seem to show her true self, finally confident enough and not trying to fill the void after Lee, and as good as they technically were, they were also extremely similar to each other.

She is a solid designer, but knowing her aesthetic and design approach, I don't see her as someone who could bring excitement back to a stale brand.
So spot on. 👏🏻

Sarah is pretty soulless and irrelevant. She is not a fashion designer. She is like a garment creator, someone that should work for somebody else.

For me she’s too normal to be a designer. Insipid. Void.

Damn! Tell us how you really feel.

I do think you guys are being too harsh on her. She most probably needs a change of scenery(it's possible that Kering was demanding blandness from her).

If we can give Ancora man grace, and even her replacement at McQueen, then we can give Sarah some grace.

I believe she will surpass expectations and be a success.

she still brought McQueen through the normcore/athleisure years without turning it into some horrific streetwear knockoff. Tough times to be a label specialised in tailoring.....

Even her accesories were strong. When i buy things that i usually dont see much, im surprised that fashion people would recognize its mcqueen. And imo in a world full of chanels and dior the buiild quality of her bags were "underpriced"

Leaving Mcqueen i think did her more good than bad. Now the insta people actually recognize her work and want her somewhere.

McQueen tried and tried but never scored an "It Bag." The Heroine, the Curve, the Slash, the Seal, the Peak: Especially in the last few years, they desperately chased after that goal but never managed to get their own Trapeze, Antigona, or Puzzle bag.

Lee McQueen's Knuckle bags, especially the clutches, have always been popular. Burton retained them and built them into one of the house's biggest icons, right behind the skull scarves. I'm completely nonplussed to see that they're apparently being phased out under this new kid. I personally wouldn't bet on the insipid new Cross-Bar and Sling bags setting the accessories counter on fire...

maybe they should have gave out the bags to vloggers and influencers to make them look like they have an it bag as well. Their marketing were always quite bad, almost like they didnt want to advertise mcqueen.

At the Assemblée Générale, Pinault said something interesting about McQueen and the fact that it’s the brand that has never fully recovered from the pandemic because of their retail network.
I think despite the beautiful image and reputation of the brand, they were maybe too dependent on wholesales and when you see McQueen bags discounted everywhere, it’s not really appealing.
Plus, while the knuckle clutches are very beautiful and a strong statement, it’s not a really practical detail on hobos. The other bags had that skull detail. I’m not sure if skulls are such an appealing detail for the mass.

Not sure we should be basing someone's designs aesthetic on a handbag popularity.

Bags and accessories are entirely the creation and force of Kerring pressuringdeisgn houses to create and make a new IT bag.

You can never tell what will become IT bag as it's purely down to a perfect storm of several factors combining, like with the immense surge of Bottega or the Jacquemus Chico. They, along with Prada and Chloe and many other companies have tried to emulate this for the past 5 years with little success so I dont think the face Sarah never had an'It bag' makes her accessories bad, especially seeing ad the Mens Stacked sole trainer was reportedly over 45% of the mens turnover year on year.

Her thread title needs an update we got some FAB news !!
