Elle Fanning Debuts Sarah Burton’s Givenchy on the Oscars Red Carpet​

Some stars always look good, but Elle Fanning is part of the fashion industry family. So it makes sense that to attend her first-ever Academy Awards, she’d also make a bit of fashion history.

On Friday, Sarah Burton will present her debut collection as the creative director of Givenchy at Paris Fashion Week. But those tuning into the Oscars on Sunday night got a sneak peek of what the designer is going to bring to the table as the new head of the French luxury brand. Fanning was wearing the first Givenchy Couture gown ever designed by Burton.

“I absolutely love this dress,” Fanning told E News on the red carpet. “It’s actually very special. Sarah Burton, who was the designer for Alexander McQueen for a while, is now the designer for Givenchy, but she hasn’t shown a collection yet. So I get to wear...the first Sarah Burton design as designer of Givenchy.”

The main event dress is just a custom dress based on the archives.
In a way, it’s in line with what I expect from Burton: pretty with an edge.

Then again I think it’s clever to reference Hubert instead of one of his successor as it creates a lineage with him and her.

Now. We will see what her proposition will be.

Pls don't tell me that even at Givenchy, she will have to live under mcqueen's shadow and people will again expect her to pull out edgy designs. Maybe she will even be expected to pull out a Galliano.

As for the dresses, It's very true to original Givenchy and from there I guess we will see how it will develop into Givenchy by burton. These dresses are what i would expect from givenchy couture pieces, timeless and precious. If Chanel couture do not step it up, Givenchy will be there to take their couture clients.

As expected the menswear is way more edgy and stronger, this guy just couldn't carry any clothes. But i saw one photo of him standing normally and it doesn't look as bad as the ones posted here.

People expect her to be the next Alber or sth? To me, Alber is Hubert with the "edge".

Yes this is by Sarah too, I actually like the two dresses she's made for Elle, Timothee's not so much.

I like Thimotée's look and the fact it's in leather but maybe they could have chose a finer leather like kangaroo.
The other two dresses are way too archival to be worn by someone without any edge or presence. They ends up looking as boring as the actress.

i was just thinking... she is the wrong person to dress in archival pieces. Her glam team will turn even the edgiest dresses into disney princess gowns. But the cut, the precision, the fit are all there, just the wrong person. They needed someone like florence welch or lupita nyongo or even jessica chastain for those.

I can't wait to see more of her menswear for givenchy

They'll probably do menswear as a lookbook or a buyer's only showroom.
