secret marketing

Extremely interesting topic.

To me, Marketing and Advertising are an art. If done right, the response can be huge. I think here at TFS, there has been subtle advertising. But of course, it's usually easy to pick out the Spam from the rest. But sometimes subtle advertising is what works best... but overall, I think praises or mentions of products at the site here has been based on personal opinions, for the most part.

I have to say, though, if something sounds cool, however way it is presented, I'll be interested. Darn right spam is a no-no, but in conversation, if something is mentioned, and it piques my interest, then there ya go.

lena, i think if someone lifted an idea from the tfs forums i would hope they would give credit, but i'm sure there are a lot of people who wouldn't specifically cite it. esp. if they were stated up front they were working for a marketing company and proceeded to probe tfs in a blatant way i'm not sure how people would like it. but of course, there are tons of people who do work in fashion, advertising etc. who browse the site and find useful information...

finalfashion, i'm really interested in the same things you are it seems. i find blogs, forums and different marketing and branding strategies really interesting. i would suggest you check out some branding or strategy companies. it's an emerging field and it will become increasing important for companies to find people who are really curious and have innovative ideas :flower:

you can pm me if you want me to send you any links on this, or if you have any questions.

agreed.. and i'm one of them myself, i cant see why members would mind..
on the contrary, members should be proud of affecting the public opinion, hence they need to post more 'responsibly'
i believe we have lots of industry people lurking*

*get out of lurk mode and do join in :flower:

^ Interested to know why you think MAC has lost ground in the industry since Estee Lauder's acquisition?

I work with makeup artists all the time in my business and many of them have been replacing their MAC with other pro brands for various reasons but mostly because other brands are coming up with highly pigmented, low titanium dioxide foundations that they prefer and are better for photography. According to the buzz, MAC used to be a professional artists' line, but not anymore.

In addition to that, many have stated that MAC has changed their marketing so much (by doing fashion shows and other events for free and using their own artists and supposedly not even paying them) which has cut into a lot of the paid work that freelance makeup artists used to get. So many are purposely abandoning MAC since MAC is hurting them financially. Here's a long thread about this very topic: http://p082.ezboard.com/fmakeupandrelatedindustriesfrm5.showMessage?topicID=7896.topic

thats so true about mac, they do all the shows here as well, i'm sure freelance makeup artists are not particularly happy, but then, so does Bobbi Brown and other brands

their quality has fallen to pieces
