Sensitive skin

:flower: Sorry what do you mean for "mineral make up"???
I don't use very often make-up but I've tried the Max Factor foundation Colour Adapt, even if it's not only for sensitive skin it works so good for me, it's very lightweight and it doesn't irritate my skin.

^ oh i will try that when i am done with vichy's micellar. vichy's is a bit too sticky for my taste (not like filmy or anything, but really you have to have a big toner swipe after because i just find it tacky).
but yes, once i try bioderma i will see how it works out too. thanks for reminding me XD
actually babyface from lush seems nice too, but man the cocoa butter >.<
i will see :flower:

You need a soap-free cleanser. I absolutely recommend Exuviance anti-bacterial mostoirizing face wash.

What To Do When Your Face Goes WACKO!!

I used to have consistent combination skin but in the past few years my skin has become really sensitive. Occasionally it will go absolutely bonkers. Start getting pimples, redness, itchiness, etc. usually it follows changes in the weather - whether it is due to traveling or seasonal changes here in my city (Toronto).

I generally use the same products daily. When my skin does it's hissy fit thing, I use 1-1.5% hydrocortisone cream instead of regular moisturizer instead until things calm down. Not sure how well it actually works...might be more of a mental thing. Anyways....question is...

Do you guys have a "thing" you do when your face goes bonkers? Any products or treatments you go to, to calm things down?

I've got the combination skin as well, and when it goes bonkers, I make sure to do the following:

Drink a lot more water. I rarely ever drink water, or one glass a day, at most, of plain tap water. I find that when I drink more, my skin clears up faster.
Use a good scrub after cleansing. A mask may also be good but if you have combination skin avoid "acne" masks as I find they are too harsh.
Use a tea tree oil roll-on for the stubborn spots, or the new zits-it helps to dry them out.

I think the most important thing for me though is continuing my normal skincare routine-I tend to have more sensitive skin, and any acne flare-ups can be dealt with in due time.

my mom got me physiogel (a shower cream for face and body, rinse w/ water is optional) and it love it a lot so far.

I thought I would revive this thread- I have quite sensitive skin and I was wondering if anyone else on TFS also does. What skin care and makeup products do you use?

^I have very sensitive skin as well and atm Im (again) very unsure whether the products I use are right or wrong. However, due to the fact that Im fighting some belmishes as well, its very difficult for me to find products which hydrate my skin yet have a anti-blemish effect.
Oh well. Right now Im using the Clinique anti-blemish soltuins soap boar, the anti-belmish solutions toner (directly on the spots only) and the Avene moisturizer for intolerant skin at night. In the morning, Rosel Heim cleansing milk (its a german organic brand) and Clinique anti-blemish solutions moisturizer.
Twice a week Im using a mud mask with algae, I forgot the name but its very cheap from a drugstore.

Ive hear quite good things about Bioderma or Ren but again, I dont know whether they will make my skin break out so Im a bit hesitant

I also have extremely sensitive and allergy prone skin. When it's going through a bad phase the best i can do is splash it with water and leave it - it gets very dry without the moisturiser but at least it starts healing again.
Some products that are kind enough to my skin are the avene tolerane extreme range, bioderma crealine h20, lush ultrabland cleanser, lush celestial moisturiser, embryolisse lait creme concentrate, and the basic aveeno moisturiser. Though my skin still sometimes reacts with these.

As for makeup - I never wear any unless i need it (when my face is very red, which is actually the worst time i could use it but i have no choice). I have tried bare minerals powder mineral foundation which is good enough, but you can tell that i'm wearing makeup when i wear it which i don't like, so i prefer armani luminous silk foundation, or laura mercier silk creme foundation if my face needs extra couverage if it's red. with these my skin can either be fine after wearing or i could be left with dry red patches. depending on how my skin is feeling that day.

I've herd great things about Clinique products but when I tried it- it actually made me break out into a rash! At the moment I am just using Korres Thyme honey cream 24-hour moisturizing. It works okay but my skin is still often dry at times.

Neutrogena Extra Gentle cleanser...swear by it!
I cant use Cetaphil but can use the Neutrogena.

^They use plant'based ingredients, which are very likely to cause allergies. Bad choice for sensitive skin.

I use products with very few irritants and plant-based ingredients. The Bioderma Crealine cleanser (is called Sensibio now I think?) and the Embryolisse moisturizer are staples of mine. I ordered Avene Cold Cream (to combat flaky skin) too, as it contains very few ingredients. I use a cleansing oil by Shu Uemura which also contains very few ingredients. And that is pretty much it. Sometimes I use a glycolic face wash from Mario Badescu for exfoliating, and the glycolic gel is awesome - my skin has no problems with glycolic acid, even though some react very badly to it.

Clinique is the worst thing you can put on your skin. People use their toners to remove nail polish and clean their bath tubs! Would you put that on your face? Didn't think so. I've had massive allergic reactions to every one of their products that I have tried.

cold sun
You could be breaking out because your skin is dehydrated. And I really hope you stop using Clinique, it's most likely only making matters worse.

I have used all the stuff i mentioned (also read the reviews on them ahem). I have eczema on my face and rosacea and all the things i listed actually made my problems disappear so I suppose they arent irritants to me.

I think it's pretty silly to deem something not okay to use when it's made for sensitive skin and you've yet to try it. Not everyone will be irritated by ~plant based ingredients. If your skin is, then that sucks but it doesn't mean its going to be that way for every one.

The only way to know for sure people, is to try it out. People's skin is all different and no guarantee that what I or the_ida suggested will actually work. Lush has fantastic products and the ones listed above are there as an option is people are looking for something new.

Actually most plant based ingredients are allergens, meaning they cause allergies - you may even become allergic to several things because of one allergen. And that goes for everyone. And you can look at the ingredients list of any product and "deem something not okay" even if it's marketed towards sensitive skin - if you've researched the ingredients that is.

I can't use anything with lavender, which is a very potent allergen. I used to be able to, but now I get painful rashes if I put anything containing lavender on my skin. The Embryolisse moisturizer does contain aloe vera, but that is not a very potent allergen, so I feel it is somewhat safe.

I agree plant based herbal products can be awful for my skin, especially lavender as you said. But I find aloe vera nice and soothing as long as its not mixed with a load of chemicals. In saying that though I did try some of the Lush products and found that they actually suited and calmed my ultra sensitive skin, I think some natural ingredients like almond milk and beeswax and the like can be soothing. The only thing I found with the Lush products I tried was that they were a little too oily so not for my personal everyday use. Though I will use them occasionally. I have always used Bioderma and in the past few weeks have discovered Embryolisse - my skin hasn't looked this calm in a long while

^Bioderma and Embryolisse contain very minimal ingredients, so that makes sense. I've tried some Lush products too, but again, they were chock-full of allergens...sometimes "chemicals" are actually better than natural ingredients because they are less reactive.
