Accused eBay Bully Allegedly Terrorizes Online Users

Station Investigates Threats, Calls

SAN DIEGO -- Some consumers are discovering that when they bid on eBay, they're opening a portal to problems.


Tina Schimke and her husband, Dwayne, began having trouble with eBay when they placed a bid on a bike from what looked to be a legitimate seller, San Diego television station KGTV reported.


"He had quite an ad on the site -- it had lots of bikes. I admit, I didn't completely read the ad," Tina Schimke said.


When the Schimkes e-mailed back with a question about the shipping cost, the seller allegedly blasted them with a nasty e-mail.


"As soon as he got my e-mail, he was pounding the keyboard and venting," Tina Schimke said.


The anger didn't stop there, she said.


The seller allegedly left her a message that said, "Hey there, schmuck boy -- not answering the phone now?"


The alleged eBay bully was on a roll.


"I know exactly where you f---ing live. E-mail me again and see what happens to your little b---- a--," the accused bully said in the message.

"I was afraid this person was a maniac and was going to show up on our front door," Tina Schimke told the station.


The Schimkes aren't alone. This eBay bully had struck before, the station said.


He allegedly called the Burleson household 37 times.


Cindy Burleson and her daughter, both from Dallas, were also hammered over their questions about comic books the man was selling.


Cindy Burleson said the accused bully threatened her life.


"(He said,) 'I'm going to kill you. Scumbags like you shouldn't be allowed to live.' (He said) stuff like that," Burleson said.


These women and the Schimkes filed police reports but got no results.

So, the station went looking for the accused eBay bully and tracked him to a home in Cleburne, Texas, near Fort Worth, Texas. It's not only where he lives, but also where he does business.


Frank Esquitin, the name of the alleged eBay bully, also goes by the following eBay aliases: Old School Riderz, Cool Cat Cycles and Cool Cat Biker, the station reported.


He's been arrested on charges related to drugs, weapons violations and harassment, police records show.


A Dallas TV station tried to get a response from Esquitin, but no one answered his door.


Esquitin later told KGTV by phone that his accusers are deadbeats and sociopaths. He said that if he threatened them, they must have threatened him first.


Despite complaints, Esquitin is still on eBay.


The company said it assumes no responsibility for any encounters outside its Web site.


"I think I'll use eBay again, but I'll hesitate," Tina Schimke said.


Burleson and her daughter said they will tread more carefully after their experience with the alleged eBay bully.


"We were terrorized. He terrorized us. If he wanted to terrorize us, it worked," Burleson said.

Yes there are really nasty on Ebay. One woman left me feedback calling me a "Total Liar!!!" when I had bought a hat from her and told her through email that it wasn't the color it looked like in the pic because it was darker and more green. I told her I wanted a refund but she said no and then left me neg feedback

^ Once in a great while you'll come across jerks. But 99.9% of the time, people are fair. I've had great luck with EBay... can only recall one or two instances where I was not satisfied.

i sell things in ebay. i find 98% of people are good and fair. others seem a bit irrational...?

when i bought things on ebay i was disappointed a couple times so i really try to do it right.

as for flamers. ya those other the 2%. i used to say 1% but i don't know now. you have to really stand firm with some people. they threaten you with negative feedback before they even see what you will say if they ask nicely. if someone asks me nicely for something, they win me over, i am putty in their hands. or their initial letter to you is clearly hysterical when there is no problem, they just can't understand their paypal account or something. i have really learnt how to be friendly, positive but firm when needed. but that is standard even in retail in stores. same thing everywhere. i think human nature is pretty alright...

I agree. Some people are pretty irrational and fussy Sometimes it gets kinda annoying.

I think I'm pretty lenient as a seller and rather patient as a buyer. There was this one time I waited well over half a year to receive a bikini that I'd purchased so I'm guessing I had every right to question the seller??!!

Overall, I really enjoy eBay, I'm an addict!!

Ebay - A great medium to buy and sell!

My experience on Ebay has been great since 1999. I have purchased many couture and high fashion items including clothes and shoes with great success. I have has some difficult experiences as both a seller and a buyer. My only negative feedback as a seller is because the buyer claimed the shoes did not fit. It is important to understand that if you plan on buying shoes on Ebay it is imperative that you know you size for that style/brand. It is always a good idea to try the same style on in a store/boutique and then search for it on Ebay...By doing so, you will know for sure that the shoe fits...

As a buyer, I have had a few experiences where the item is not as advertised. Many times shoes are advertised as "new" when they are clearly not. My experience has been to identify a couple of good sellers and stay loyal to them. The feedback score is critical...Don't bid on any items from sellers with less than a 99% feedback score...And, it is preferable to do business with sellers who have Ebay stores. Generally this indicates that this is their key business and it is critical that they maintain a close to perfect feedback rating because their livelihood depends on it.

All in all, Ebay is great place to find excellent bargains including designer items and very discounted prices...

And, it is preferable to do business with sellers who have Ebay stores. Generally this indicates that this is their key business and it is critical that they maintain a close to perfect feedback rating because their livelihood depends on it.

Just wanted to add that, I sell on Ebay and I do it fulltime but I don't have a store. There are some sellers that choose not to. I think the stores are a little overated [even the head of Ebay said this in a documentary...], not from the buyer's point of view, I can understand why they are reassuring. But as a seller, they don't offer more exposure. And there is a monthly charge and then they take a bigger cut. And you still need to send your items through the main bidding area to get attention. And that is the same price for stores and non-store sellers.

So I just wanted to speak up for the non-store sellers. But i totally agree, you need to find sellers in general you like and trust.

This is a new code that I just received in the mail. It is not the one that expires on Nov 30th. So I'm guessing if you've used the C1-HOLIDAY2005 code already, this one will work on another single-item purchase, but I haven't tried it myself.
