I have seen this as a trend, especially among hipsters and vintage lovers. Here is an article I wrote...

Short And Fat?

I think I speak for many lovers of fashion when I say that most items are either love or hate. Scarves? Love. Neon colours? Hate. Baby Phat? Euughhh. (Okay, so love, hate, or eeugghhh.) This season, however, the fashion crowd seems to have come to favour a compromise of sorts, a merging of two, often contrasting, worlds – the towering world of the heel and the grounded planet of the beloved flat.

Though definitely not new, it seems that the short, stubby heel is making a return. While in my perfect world, girls would voluntarily vacuum in 5-inch, black stilettos ( Dita Von Teese, call me!), some of my female friends have consistently pointed out to me that this is not entirely realistic ( While I still don’t understand why, I think that is a completely different discussion….). As such, I am intrigued by this new shape as much for its wearability-factor as for its aesthetic.

Rejecting the sexy allure of a heel and eluding the inescapable elegance of a flat, this new heel shape also boasts a naïve quirkiness that works with the current mood in fashion. It’s a look that heralds back to a young girl’s first pair of “high heels” – certainly not high, but always providing the wearer with a pristine sense of confidence, a sort of “I-have-been-changed-for-the-better-by-my-footwear” kind of feeling. For a young girl, it’s an act of distancing herself from her childhood; for a hipster, it’s yet another act of distancing herself from anything favoured by the likes of Ms. Longoria and crew.

Thigh-grazing or T-strap, I urge you to try on this stubbier, shorter heel. The fact is that no one wants to look haggard and old. So, while this heel may not make you feel sexier, by eradicating the wrinkle-inducing strain of deciding between a flat and a heel, it with definitely make you look sexier.

seriously...
you posted one boot...

ONE boot...
and the other is a vintage old lady shoe that ferragamo has been doing since forever...

so HOW is this a trend??...
you need far more evidence to call this anything remotely resembling a trend...

as far as i can see- it isn't...

the shoe trends for fall are ballet flats, ankle boots and platforms...
some wedges...and anything patent leather...

imo...

i wouldn't feel at all sexy in that sort of heel...=/

You sound a little harsh here;  but sorry to say that it's true, you only posted ONE boot.^_^

I've definitely seen more of this around. Not to the extent of other shoe-trends, but it's there.

don't really see this as a trend. There needs to be more pics from different collections posted. I only see the conservative Ferragamo's my grandmother wears and a pair of boots.

well....i have seen this on the street a lot (mostly with hipsters and vintage-lovers, liike I said) but i haven't had a camera to take pics, i'm hoping some people can help me out here cuz i definitely have seen this more and more...I apolgize greatly if I didn't abide to some unwritten rule about trend-justification.

i think it's growing, mainly due to the vintage-inspired trends that still hold strong via streetstyle

yes. they seem very popular amongst hipsters here. however, i thought they were almost gone. they've been wearing them forever and following the MJ look...which is from 2003, i should add. ^_^

high heels or flats aren't a trend

the only ones that could be a trend (atm) are chloe, balenciaga, prada and marc jacobs platform shoes

high heels, flats will look always look good, I don't think a woman in this world will say "Oh I can't wear high heels , the new trend is flat"

I never saw flats as a trend

Those MJ shoes are kitten heels, I like them, they give your body and height a slight + subtle lift, I love them.

i hate:D them.

hah!!...:p
but those aren't FAT...they are just your basic kitten heel...^_^...

i agree that some vintage shoes have that kind of heel...
but then ---i guess it's VINTAGE shoes that are a trend...

classicfashion...
I do not define what a trend is...
but there IS a definition...
and WE ALL have to follow it...one or two does not equal a trend...
simple as that...

* i have seen the yohji boots...
that picture is misleading...
the heel is just like a regular riding boot...not like what you describe....

i'll tell you who IS doing a short fat heel...
roger vivier...
but that is part of the vivier trademark style since the 1960's...not any sort of trend...

mademoiselle...
flats or heels can absolutely be a trend...
ballet flats are a huge trend right now...

What is a trend is the form of the shoe

ive seen an extreme of this idea of "stubby heels" at dries van noten

I don't like stubby heels at all, I'd rather wear flats than short heels. But Lindsay Lohan seems to like this trend, at least she's trying it out:
