Simply Vera : Vera Wang for Kohl's

Walter Gropius was the founder of Bauhaus (school of Architecture and Design, that is). ;)

I don't think this little blurb from the NY Times article was posted:
Up to 20 pieces will be added to the SimplyVera line each month, so it’s worth checking Kohl’s Web site (kohls.com) to have a chance at the pickings.

Sounds interesting, and I know I'll be checking almost daily. :shifty:

Finally got a chance to check this out ... I hit the store near my dentist's office on my lunch hour, and even though several other people were there apparently to look specifically at Simply Vera, it really wasn't picked over at all (at least in size medium). I was pleasantly surprised all the way around. Of course it was displayed really poorly, but I wasn't expecting any better. I bought what I went for (the oatmeal cardigan shown in the ads), plus a top to go with & another top (see Secret Shopaholics or French wardrobe thread for pix). Very curve-friendly, I noticed ...

I am very anti-polyester, but there was plenty of rayon, wool, and cotton to choose from.

I'm really excited ... I think this is going to be a great resource. I hope the contract renews after the 3 years :flower:

why on earth is there not a kohls in NYC. the stuff actually looks really nice. id love to check it out

^ Kohl's is very suburban ;) You can order online. The photos are very realistic of this stuff--the opinions I formed of different items and textiles from photos proved to be true to life.

there's a kohls in jersey city that's super easy to get to. just take the PATH train from 32nd st/broadway out to newport/pavonia and it's basically right there at the newport center mall. it takes about 15 minutes to get there.

I went back to the Kohl's I had little success in....
and luckily they had put out more items.
I tried on so much but only ended up with a grey hooded thin wool blend cardigan which I like very much and got for 20% off.

I also checked out the shoes and tried on the tall heeled boots that come in both drk brown and blk.
I liked them but I was wearing a long flowy skirt that I would never wear with them so it was hard for me to get a feel for them and if they would work with my fall clothes.
Now that I think of it though I wish I had bought them and just returned them if they didn't work b/c there were so few in my size.

I know a lot of people were interested in the gold brocade skirt. It's on the website now.

I ordered this nice hooded gray cardigan. Shipping was only 99 cents!

^ That is the one I bought! I am actually wearing it right now.
I like it very much and hope you do too!

I visited Kohl's today (first time, actually) and was pleasantly surprised to find a few skirts and dresses that fit okay - quite bizarre, really, because I have a much harder time finding bottoms than tops, and this time around none of the tops fit me. But hey, no complaints here.

I passed on all of the knits except the ruffly cardigan, which was really frumpy on me. The pants didn't flatter me at all, but the material was fine - quite substantial and drapey without being clingy. I liked the textured coats - they're not as "luxe" as they look in the ads, but I liked them just the same. Unlined, unfortunately, and the pocket placement is kind of weird (pockets matter), but not too bad. The dresses were , although the details looked kind of cheap - the little tulle and rhinestone things on the collar, the faux onyx (fauxnyx? ha) bits and the straps on the pleated silk dress, for example.

I didn't see the gold brocade skirt, but I did try on the bordered skirt ("ponte skirt"). I was expecting a narrow, tapered pencil fit, but on me it was more of a vague balloon - kind of roomy through the hips/thighs and then slightly narrower at the hem from the wide border panel.

Okay, I just realized after looking through the pics that the skirts are being worn on the waist. Hmm. I tried them on at low waist/high hip level. Perhaps that explains the whole balloony thing. :o

Just wanted to give you guys a quick report now that I've worn everything. I've been extremely pleased with the blouse and top. The cardigan pilled immediately upon first wearing. I was easily able to pull them off (the little balls), which is a plus. The quality of the other items has been great, and everything is flattering/fits well.

I think Vera is more-do known for her use of rich fabrics than her shapes. I think if you took her clothes and made them in cotton, or took away the quality, they would be nothing special.

I think she'll still make them high quality. One of the things I've loved about Vera is she wont bend on quality.

i don't think the quality is too good...
and the clothes look so much better in pictures,
in real life they are unimpressive.

i bought the purple oversized v-neck and was really excited to wear it...
so i wore it today over a long slv. white top and a necklace (just like in the picture ad..:innocent:)
so, after a full day of wearing it:
-the band at the bottom is really stretched out and now the top just hangs and looks like it is just plain too big. this morning it layed perfectly, though.
-it is already pilling, and i don't know why! i haven't washed it yet, or anything. but its really pilly and annoying and looks really cheap because of it.
-the material is actually really thin, the picture is quite deceiving

and it's not like i'm some clothing snob, either.
i wouldn't say my standards for quality are low, but i am used to wearing things from gap and target, most of my clothes come from places like that.

*either way, i bought it on sale, it was 30% off and then my mom had a card so she got another 20% off. the sweater is definately not worth $55, the original price.

:ninja:

^ So there's two of us with pilling issues ;) Of the three things I bought, only one could pill ... the other two are fine. I would say just watch out for the sweaters ... is that what you have, em?

I typically buy things that cost more than this ...
