Sophia Kokosalaki for Vionnet Collection * updated Sophia out

I remember seeing this in Vogue and being completely underwhelmed. Sophia's designs were once so ambitious and limitless. I'm hoping it get's better.

when will they show more from this collection? (apart from the vogue spread)

I think Sophia is very talented and hopefully working for a house of that stature will bring the best out of her.We will see!

I have to concede an error on my part. I argued that Vionnet's classic works didn't ential enough pleats, gathers, tucks, etc to justify Kokosolaki's extensive use of them. I looked back recently and I found that that's not entirerly true. She did use alot of the techniques well into the 30's. I wouldn't say that it's substantial enough to where Kokosolaki's work doesn't strike me as a bit off.

I guess I am biased by my desires to see Vionnet's masterful cutting on the bias reinterpreted rather than the classical style and those sets of fabric manipulation techniques. I've come to associate those things more with Madame Gres. But hopefully there will be many more seasons to see where it goes.

Beautiful work. She's respectful but also interested in demonstrating how Vionnet has influenced her own work. I can't imagine how difficult a task it must be given that much of V's work doesn't look aged in the least. However, such forward thinking design doesn't necessarily or automatically speak to our time. It would be interesting if the tensions and inherent difficulties of working with such a legacy would show up, somehow, in the clothes.

Interesting! Sophia's talented and I think she's a great choice for vionnet - can't wait to see it

Revival Party
Sophia Kokosalaki's Vionnet runway debut is sure to be one of the most talked-about shows of Paris fashion week—but why should the French have all of the fun? On February 2, Barneys New York toasts the Greek-born designer and her spring collection of draped, wrapped, and pleated gowns with a Champagne cocktail party on the store's second floor.

the dress is just stunning

^I second that. Can't wait to see the entire collection.

And that dress is stunning. !

^ She's a cutie.

Those shiny fabrics irk me to no end. The designs do seem to get better. I'm still, however, waiting to be wowed.

I did a search, and I don't think the entire Spring/Summer 2007 collection was ever posted ... it's says on the website that it's a "preview" .....
