Stefano Pilati - Designer

LOL You’re such a snob and a half @LadyJunon! He looks good physically; broad shoulders and a headful of hair… he’s hovering 60yo.
No problem with him, it's that ghastly outfit with the threadbare Chanel jacket.
What turns me so off about Stefano’s current state of design, and RI is all we, as obsessed fashion observers/consumers have to judge by, is there’s this immense regression rather than progression: The cut, the construction, the hard-learned skills that he acquired from Gucci to Zegna, is simply not there with his current efforts. And that reeks of a certain neglect of one’s hard-earned skills and craft. I get that RI is more affordable, accessible, and for a much younger customer, so the production investment can’t be there for the pricepoint. But it’s such an overall regression… At least that’s in sync with everyone else in the industry LOL
The aesthetical regression bothers me more. As a fan coming from his YSL and Zegna, I can't connect to what does at Random Identities. It just feels too cool and trendy for me (something I've had more than enough off).

Stefano used to dress good when people didn’t actually made a fuss about his style.
Let’s not act like those looks are good…

The wardrobe went downhill when he left Zegna.

Wow he's really missed by people...Hope he's been cooking sth

Is he having a comeback ?? Yes, please.
I do have a few pieces of random identities and I love them.

He'd make more sense at Gucci... can't see him at Chanel at all, wtf at that thought.

Stefano seriously will always deserve his flowers. Hands down. The anecdote behind FW2006, one of my favorite RTW collections of the 21st century, is just delicious.

I appreciate the fact that he gave a shout out to Thomas Lenthal.
It’s interesting to see him romanticize his time at YSL through the collections.
He joined the brand in 2000 so for me, the story will always be deeper than what he chose to narrate but anyway…
He had a fantastic ride from 2006 to 2009 and it was exceptional from 2007 to 2008.

He will never be involved in a Kering brand. Part of the reason of why nobody called after YSL is due to his contentious relationship with the executives at Kering. Even if he had an ego, being deemed difficult by your boss is not the best thing…

However, being Tom’s number 2 allowed him to create a relationship with the Zegna and they gave him Zegna/Agnona.

Nevertheless, he did some very influential collections at YSL, was part of the most controversial tenure in modern fashion and really left a mark on the Parisian scene. So he deserve his flowers…

Tbh, if Sarah Burton wasn’t in the starting-blocks for Givenchy, he could have been an interesting choice.
In my head, he belongs to Armani because it’s the closest house to his spirit as a fashion designer. He is a fabrics geek and judging by the quality of Armani’s fabrics, he would actually have a blast there.

Or just Berluti (if they have their sense back and want to have a proper nice house). His menswear was amazing.

Not sure he has much to offer now so a small house could be great.

His Instagram is wild. Kind of a Gloria Swanson in Sunset Boulevard.

“I was the CD for SL for 8 years”

Dear, we all know that. You are known for that. Lmao. Aging can be so bad sometimes. And designers should stay away from social media. Seriously.

My friend worked for Armani for 15 years. He always said that Stefano would be the one to Giorgio when he passed. Hopefully he does.
He really should be.
What he did for Zegna and Agnona could really be Armani mainline and what he is doing for Random Identities is very Emporio Armani to some degree.
