Steven Meisel Three Hundred and Seventeen & Counting : Vogue Italia Covers 1988 - 2009

thanks a lot ammon !
I don't get the comment about this book being bad...
visually thrilling to see all the covers together, very interesting to see how it evolved, which phases it went through, you can get a hint of the character, observe some recurrent themes declined over the years and trends...
seing the whole work of someone is far more interesting than just one piece here and there... even when you will obviously have some standouts and some forgetable ones... it's a gift to be able to see the whole.

The idea of this book is splendid, even considering that the editors relied on the 032C magazine article about Meisel which featured all these covers previously (although in small format), but there are things that I do not really like in this book: the design is bad (cover and inside) and the softcover format. In addition, a few errors can be spotted in the covers credits section.

^I'm with you on everything.

I loved 2004 covers so much!

Karen Elson's June 2004: soooooooo freakin' amazing. Just looooooooooooove everything about it.

Not to mention its main editorial, Iron Butterflies.:wub:

Amazing and unforgettable covers from 2003 and 2004.

Just noticed that during the year 2004, Meisel's darlings were Karen, Elise, Missy and Stam. Oh, as well as Hannelore. ^_^

I think this book is a great idea ...
But let's not forget, it's the catalogue of an exhibition - then I wish there were more texts, first. For instance, an itw with Meisel's co-workers, models, and fashion critics and historians.

And I have to second testinofan, I wish there were some some pictures from editorials.

and eventhough this is just a debut, I guess and hope, I still wonder why Meisel doesn't publish a book on his own (like Newton or Weber could do) ...

I think a work of researchs is still to do ...
C'mone young people ! This is your passion, study Fashion and write about it.
I feel there's still a need to write about the History of Fashion Magazines !

April 2005 with Gemma Ward is one of my all time favorite VI covers. It's just simply breathtaking. Even though the editorial is kind of disappointing. Kind of.. :D

August 2005 with Snejana Onopka is pure  It's so much better than her November 2005 cover. I used to have the cover photo of her Aug. 05 cover on my phone for like a month or two. :D

The couture supplement covers are amazing as well.:heart: Who could forget the March 2005 main couture editorial??? An instant classic!

Thank you so much ammon! :flower:

Wow I had no idea Oluchi had a VI cover! Seeing all these beautiful covers makes me want the book for myself. If it came with the editorials...lord knows I would take out a loan with no shame just to get it!

yes & yes & yes- '04 & '05 were very good years. beautiful covers.

Oh, that Heather Bratton's covers.. :(

Heather Bratton's May 2006 cover was one of the best from that year. It's such a beautiful image. Suddenly miss her after seeing her covers.. :(

But September 2006 with Hilary Rhoda is the real stand-out among the rest.

the march 2007, sublime cover with sasha pivovarova was just that- SUBLIME!

2007 was the best year for VI covers imo. Every cover is just so different. But my favorite has to be AMJ & Coco's February cover.

^It's Hilary Rhoda with Coco.

Just ordered this a few weeks ago. :shifty:

I wonder if in 3 years we'll all be reminiscing about how wonderful the covers of 2010 were, when it appears that most people have been disliking the magazine this year.

i feel like they've done a lot more experimentation this year. there's been a lot of opposition, in terms of glamour. if you look at all these covers- they're all beautiful. recent covers have been very unexpected. if that makes sense...

Oh. My. Goodness. I need this right now.

March and April 2001 are both Hannelore Knuts, May 2000 is Amanda Moore, November 1997 is Sunniva Stordahl.
