Stretch Marks

A diet rich in fish and other good oils, such as nuts and avocados makes the skin hydrated and maintains elasticity. I have gone from a size 2 to 10 and have no stretch marks. Now that I'm pregnant My breasts (and everything else) have exploded (groan) and there are still none. My mother also got none, so it could be genetic but my family does eat alot of fish. I also have used a body scrub each week and slather on pure avocado oil or almond oil and shea butter.

Maintain a healthy weight, drink tons of water and eat a diet rich in good oils and moisturize religiously with pure natural oils or cocoa or shea butter. It's usually weight fluctuation due that causes stretch marks. Sometimes from going through puberty a persons breasts or hips will grow quickly, resulting in stretch marks.

i have them right on the back of my calves! does anyone know how to help this? my weight has fluctuated immensely over the past 3 years (i know that's the cause), and it's only now really that it's finally being maintained. my legs are toned and in great shape except for those marks, and i don't know what to do.

I am only 13 and I already have them on my bottom and thighs! I really don't know why. I think maybe it is because I put on weight and then lost a lot of weight, but that was ages ago! Is it normal to have them at my age?

Well I get them too. It is normal because we're constantly growing.

Will any sort of treatment or minor surgery get rid of them?

^I'm asking because one of my friends recently had a major growth spurt and was considering certain options :S

I don't think there is anything available aside from cocoa butter and vitamin e. Stretch marks result from tears in the dermis, so I don't see how microdermabrasion or anything of the sort would diminish them. I could be wrong, but stretch marks are there to stay unless of course you have stretch marks on your stomach from having a baby and then have the skin removed with a tummytuck or other such procedure.

I've heard that lasers can be used to minimize them, but I don't know how effective they are.

Just remember that, thanks to puberty, most women have stretch marks on their hips, breasts, butt, or thighs. You're not alone. :flower:

I moisturise all over every day. At the moment twice a day because we've having such cold dry weather. Once after my morning shower and once after my evening shower. I find that that, combined with maintaining a healthy weight and eating plan works best. Though I'm fairly lucky, because I have such fair skin and stretch marks are a pale colour they blend in with the rest of my skin fairly well.

And for those who feel like they are the only person to have them, try not to worry too much. I tell my friend who's only 19 and hates hers that unless you are the same size you were when you were born, you're going to have some stretch marks.

what do people think of stretch marks when they see them on other people?

i know someone who goes "eww gross," but the majority don't give it a second thought...

I never really see people with stretch marks but it would not bother me...

I suddenly discovered that the inside of my thighs and my calves are covered in them. not meee... I love short dresses!

Has anyone any good tip on covering them up? Fake tan does not do the job.. has anyone tried sally hansen airbrush legs?

yaa.. its messy and if u've got deep stretch marks..then u have to pile a whole bunch of it on to cover it. Which makes it extremely messy.

but it covers it? My legs are mediterranean tanned in summer, which colour would be good for me? medium or dark? thanks!

urm.. im not sure wats out now.. but when i bought mine which was a yr ago.. there was only two colours. The skin colour and the tanned colour. I havn't tried the skin colour yet..but i have the tanned one. If your legs already have a tan..then go w/ the tan one.

I have them too, and i'm 16. I think its because I grew, but i'm very skinny, so its weird. I heard though that moisturizing with shea or cocoa butter can help a lot. Also, I rub some Clarins Body Treatment Oil on my legs and bottom before i go to sleep and it seems to help some.

Is there anything foolproof to get rid of old ones? I've had stretch marks for years now. Probably since 5 years ago. They're really bad on my arms and boobs and they drive me nuts. But I was fat in middle school and my boobs jumped to DD by my first year in high school.

I cover them up with clothes, but when I'm wearing something that doesn't cover them I try to put some makeup, but that is so messy! Especially with whites and light colors.

I've just about lost hope. I heard laser surgery doesn't work. Plus my marks are anything but new and they still look bad. I'm black, so they come out yellowish or tan or something and they look awful!

i heard glycolytic peels work. Laser will only work on light skinned ppl ( i think). at least tahts wat i heard. i think if it costs that much..it should work. Im having laser right now to treat pimples and scarring..and so far so good. I talked to the esthetician about my stretch marks..n she said it should fade. Nothing can fully heal ur stretch marks.. u can only fade them now.

There is nothing foolproof to get rid of strechmarks. Stretchmarks are basically scars, so if you treat them in a similar manner you can make them less noticeable. RubyJewelStone, laser does help minimise stretchmarks for some people, but because you have dark skin it would actually make them worse by lightening the skin.

Stretchmarks do tend to fade over time, but they are always there. Ruby have you ever tried fake tan to help your stretch marks blend in? That might be helpful as you already have dark skin, so a little fake tan might help to disguise them.
