Studying in London

eek. I don't know why everyone is hatin' on camberwell. I live in East dulwich which is AMAZING. I love that area of SE london. It has a lot of character. No, camberwell is not perfect and definately still has rough areas but there are areas that are REALLY nice. I also think the lack of tube is nice because it feels a bit more seperate. If you want to live in a nice area live in around denmark hill/east dulwich. Erin O'Connor has a georgian home in camberwell and there are also a lot of comics who live in camberwell/dulwich. It's a great place to live and study.

Wasn't hatin'. Everyone I know who lives there loves it.B)

^ They are one of a few exams (others include AS Levels, IB etc) you can take to get into University, they are kinda like SATs but for all subjects

Thank you for that! I've always wondered what they were. Do most universities require you to take A-levels?

Not at all, they will be happy to take you on provided you have some A-level equivalent -- Or enough work experience in your chosen field of study. That's pretty much how University of the Arts London base most of their admissions on. Also they tend to look more at your portfolio and your interview etc more than the traditional academic results most other mainstream Universities empahsize-- you're going to art college to DO art, not study history...

Was at Camberwell College just a few months ago in summer and have to say -- there's less attitude in the college than in other "prestigious" art colleges in London and the thing that amazed me was the students there are producing some really excellent work -- again, more so than some other "prestigious" art colleges... of course Camberwell tends to suffer from a bad rep but there really are some nice bits -- it's a pity SE London tends to get looked over when all the kids want to move up north to Old Street/Angel/Hackney. Move down south people!

The London College of Fashion is the most respected and prestigious fashion college in the country. I'm hoping to study there next year, after completing a Diploma in Makeup Artistry at my local college, which is what I'm doing currently.

Living and studying in London is expensive, but it depends on how desperate/determined/focused you are about your career.

Agreed. I'm studying at the London College of Fashion. When i went for the interview for my degree course, they didn't ask bout my academic results. and i sucked at academics. except for english. even if they do ask about it, it's hardly ever emphasized. they want to see your portfolio. how you think. how your mind works. and if you're not up to a certain level, they might offer you a foundation so you won't be left behind in class.

What was the interview like? How did it go? I'm applying for a degree for next year and shall have a decent portfolio by then - what sort of things did they ask you?
