Tattoos

^ its true...I dont get those who are so worried if this is the hot item sometimes...

I'm glad youre happy with your tats....

I'm hoping that I become a proud owner of one soon :)...it has so much symbolism and deep meaning into it that it went from one idea...to a big themed piece...

Even with the rise in tats...sadly a lot of places still won't accept it for professional purposes or ask you cover up... way back when it might have been associated with gangs, or biker hooligans....but thats not the case anymore. I see sweet lil grannies with a tat, professionals like doctors and lawyers, moms (my mom has one...got it this year ;) ) , dads (my stepdad has over over a dozen)..yet still tats somewhat still have a negative reputation to in amongsts certain circles... the place I picked for my future tattoo is good for a big piece, its unusual...and can be kept hidden so I dont have to worry...but what about someone who wants a full sleeve and wants to make it in a professional business?

:woot: I know a Mommy who has three! And her belly button pierced! She's gorgeous...

I have already picked out my tattoo design, but want to have it reworked by a shodo (Japanese calligraphy) master to make it more artistic. I agree that putting Asian characters on your body requires a little research and not just walking into the tattoo parlour and choosing something, but if someone really wants one and it has meaning for them, then that's appropriate. The word I've chosen is special to me and not any of the typical ones you see (heart, strength, luck etc.)

Check out hanzi smatter, a web site dedicated to the misuse of Asian characters. (tons of tattoos and the hostess -- host? -- reveals what they really mean. super funny in a tragic, i can't believe you got that inked on your body, kind of way_

i want to get a tattoo but i'm waiting to find something that i really like that means something to me... i'd get mine on my hip and a little way in ... that way it can hide under my underwear and then people who are close to me can see it...
i also presumed that by the time i'm 70 ( i'm 18) they should have the technology to get rid of it if i want hehe

^ They already have ways to get rid of it up to 95%....like the laser...by the time we're all old I'm sure it'll be a faster, and cleaner erasure of the tattoo.

I want a tattoo too :ninja: but I have red an article somewhere that said that a tattoo is an insault to Jews because the German soldiers used to tattoo a code on their hands/arms.

That doesnt make tattooing an insult to jewish people, tattoos have been around for thousands of years. If you got a random number tattooed onto you inner arm, i could see why that could be classified as insulting and pretty sick. Im not jewish so i can't say for sure, but i have never ever heard that before. I also have lots of jewish friends and quite a few of them have tattoos :)

I know that religions based on Judiasm you are not allowed to get a tattoo....
Lv 19:28 'And do not put tattoo marks on yourselves.'

so what would be insulting to Jews is when Germans would tattoo them since that was against their religion...but tattoos in general are not insulting to them. Now too with the modern times, some Jews even have tattoos...its only in the more conservative sectors do I see it strictly frown upon.

I learnt that from "the nanny" when fran had to get her tatoo taken off because her mom woudlnt let her be buried in the jewish cemetery

^ Yeah you can't be tattooed and buried there...except they made exceptions for people in the Holocaust since that wasn't their choice to be tattooed a number.

My mom is thinking of having things added to her tattoo...she feels it's not "finished"...wants it more intricate...so I told her to get in done with me by who I end up choosing. I think having her there might make me be tough and not end up reaching for the vodka not to cry:lol: .... my choices so far-one of is on the show Miami Ink Chris Garber (what if I'm on tv? ), Colin Stevens(SFO), Derek Mullins(Chicago)...but I am not final on someone...I was hoping I'd find someone in Los Angeles, but it seems I might have to travel to get what I want...I just want someone who's really good with intricate detail, colors, and Japanese/Asian tattoing

Anyone watch Inked or Miami Ink?.... Do you think these types of shows would help break down some of the negative stigma attached to tattoos...do you think this is a sign its becoming more "mainstream"?

Well my mom said maybe when we're in vegas she might have them add to her tattoo and be on the show.:p I wish she waits for me to get my tattoo so maybe we can do it together...just I think I won't cry like a sissy if she's around (:ninja::innocent: ) also...when she got her tattoo...it started to hurt so she downed a bottle of vodka and was sooo drunk and in pain that she was walking like an old lady and needed my stepdads help  ....Now if she goes to add to it again...I know if she reaches for some vodka to ease the pain...she is comical when drunk and that might make me forget that theres a really painful burning scrape on my back...I hope.

I was watching the show on Taboos and one of them was Horimono, the masters of Japanese tatooing. They use similar to the tattoo shops here except its on a long stick and they manually do the tattoo by poking you slowly. Now on a modern machine the higher the power the more it hurts so....doing it traditionally by hand would be less painful right??

My boyfriend just went to a horimono, but he can't tell me if it's less or more because he honestly thinks tattooing doesn't hurt. He has a crazy tolerance for pain....he didn't even know he broke his nose last until I pointed out it's sideways:o He thought he couldn't breathe because he had a stuffy nose all week

i love the model isabeli fontana's tattoo, but speicifcically her ankle tattoo. if anyone could find a picture of the inside of her ankle tattoo, i would dir of appriciation.

Nah.. all three times that I got tattooed, it hurt. At first it's like nothing.. but after a while, it feels like someone is scraping your skin off... and don't even get me started with how much it hurt when he was tattooing over my spin... OWWWW!!! I cried... The first two times I got tattooed, I passed out. The last time... I was about to pass out.. turned pale.. cold sweats... everything... so they quickly gave me some soda.. and i was fine... I'd reccommend bringing a small bottle of soda when you go and get tattooed. :D
