Tattoos

but at 70, does it really matter?

it would to me... ^_^

i agree with sephora on many points.... however, i have always wanted a barcode on my neck (think Max on Dark Angel) as social commentary, and because I think it looks cool.... It is my understanding that skinhead old men always sport barcodes... so I don't know..

I have had a semi-temp tat of the barcode twice and I loved it both times... I may yet get it done, when I'm older and won't be grounded :)

i really love them, as long as they are tasteful, creative, interesting, and there aren't too many on a person. i constantly want to get different sayings tattooed on me, but i have a rule: if i want a tattoo, i have to wait 3 months, and if i still want it, i can get it. so far, i haven't gotten one. after 3 months, whatever i wanted to get seems sort of meaningless or not that great. as i evolve personally, some things don't seem important as much as they did.

I would never get a tattoo but I don't hate them on other people. I've seen quite cool tattoos but I could never imagine getting one as I would then never be able to get rid of it...

i have one of those "lower back tattoos".. but honestly.. where else would i get it if I wanted to have a professional career... ?

I got my first tattoo on my 18th birthdya... then i got a second when was 20... then.. i go my third tattoo that connected the first two about a year ago.

I like my tattoo a lot.

ditto!
its the only place i could think of thats also appropriate for work. i wouldnt get my ankle (short skirts), wrist(short sleeves) etc. i wouldnt get shoulder(tank tops) i wanted it to be visable when i wanted and invisable when i wanted, with no restrictions. only time it shows at work is if im digging into my filing cabinets. :flower: :innocent:

Thats a sweet tattoo actually luna, I don't usually like colour tatts, but it's very simple looking...it's cute ^_^

I LOVE your tattoo Luna, so adorable.

I don't mind tattoo's at all. They look great on some ppl, and on allot of men I find them to be sexy. But I'm not sure I would ever get one. The only way I would get a tattoo I think is if I just randomly saw one that just DESCRIBES ME and everything that I am in one picture. Seeing as I don't think that can be done, I'm not sure id ever get one, LOL.

I also think tattoos are great b/c they tell a story, they tell where you were, who you were with, how old, and in what state of mind you were in when you got it. it is like a reminder of your life on your body.

That's hot.

^I don't mind tattoos if they are subtle and creative like the one pictured above. However, if I see one more person with a butterfly or a Mandarin word on them, I'm going to scream.

Also, tattooing someone's name....not a good idea.

i think Pink has a tattoo similar to that one SoCalledPrep
i like it :)
about tattoing sb's name...not so keen on that. u see, my ex bf had a chinese letter in his leg, that standed for her former gf's name. like a year ago he got a new tattoo to cover it up..
my brother has his gf's name tattoo in chinese letters. i don't think they're gonna brake up or anything, but he wanted to get that tattoo, so he got it. at least it's in chinese letters...
personally, i wouldn't do it. but i think of the ppl who did it or are thinking of doing it..and they must be reaaaaally in love and they think that a good way to show the other person how much they love him/her is by doing that, as they consider it a great expression of love. i'm not saying that's the only way to show love or that u have to be in love to do it. maybe tattoing sb's name is just one of those crazy lil things that u do when u're drown in love...
here are mine  (sorry for the crappy pics)

You may want to log on to this group and read some of the posts as a part of your decision making process: Tattoo Removal Support.

Bear in mind should you decide later that you want to get rid of it, green ink is one of the most difficult inks to remove.

I am in the process of having my single black tattoo removed. For the first six years it was okay but it just doesn't work for me anymore. I feel uncomfortable with it for many reasons but the main three are:

1. People make assumptions about your intelligence and morality when they see a tattoo.
2. It in no way goes with elegant clothing (it is on the side of my biceps). For the past few years, I have been dressing to hide my tattoo. It sucks.
3. I just don't (and never really did) like the size and location of it.

In response to the question posted by the thread starter, it depends on the tattoo and the gender of the person.

Women: I hate big colourful tattoos. I hate pathetic floral or fairy tattoos. Some areas I think are no go like the ***. It is soo 1980s b-list model... or Melanie Griffith. Either way is bad. Good areas are the back, neck, arms and ankle/feet. Odd areas are cool too like behind the ear or near the underarm. Has anyone seen New York artist Rachel Feinstein's tattoo? Is is an image of ants crawling out of a vagina and is near her underarm. It rocks
Icons: Angelina Jolie. All her tattoos are very her. The scripts clearly are important to her and they all are beautiful in terms of where she has placed them on her body. The huge ones on her back echo her curves and the black ones on her fragile arms look like beautiful cuts.

Men: Should never have little cutesy designs no matter how ironic. Also I still don't like messy looking things. An example is Mark Philippoussis' tattoo which was a gorgeous plate of Alexander the Great on his shoulder. He ruined it by adding all these messy flames around it. Eugh.
Icons -Brandon Boyd, Heath Ledger. Both have tattoos they designed themselves. Brandon's are amazing and I love the colour of his koi fish one. See this link: http://www.geocities.com/incu3602/tattoosbrandon.html

Other rules I think people should stick to when considering tattoos:
1) NEVER pick out of a book EVER! Design your own.
2) Is there any reason for having a hula girl or a tribal elephant on your body? Probably not. A tattoo should mean something to you and that comes before aesthetics.
3) Tattoos should either be black, white or a nude colouring. I think people should avoid the muticoloured sleeves that bikers wear... unless they are bikers of course.

As for me, I am getting my first two tattoos in a couple of weeks. They are both lettering and are both very discreet.

Well...it means something to you. I think it's stupid when its something like a boyfriends name...or hell even a husbands name at times when you know its a rocky thing. But it seems this person is someone who means the world to you and that is not going to change...it's actually sweet you tattoed a piece of her onto you to be around with you forever.:flower:

Awww .. thanks for your words ... this friday I might go to have another one done ... but this one's for me!

And I'm already thinking about the next one (supposedly, its back luck to have tattoos in even numbers)

Mark's hot though huh? Heath Ledger isn't but here are some photos of his self designed tattoos anyway:
