Tattoos

Does anyone know if it is harder to remove tattoos on like Asian or Black skin? Also which are the hardest/easiest colours to remove?

For years I've been wanting to get a tattoo, and I think this past year I've finally got a design and place narrowed down. I want to get something like the pictures I've attached (both taken from Buddhist prayer flags), about 4"x6" in size on the middle of my back. Although I do like the ones on the inner wrist, I'd like my first one to be more private and personal (while not Buddhist myself, I am familiar with the teachings, and try and bring the balance to my life (to the best of my abilities  )).

I think next year I'm going for the plunge and getting my tattoo...at first I thought I will get the black moon, sun, star logo that I designed which symbolizes me and my 2 friends on my shoulder....but I thinking of something I thought I'd never do- I rather go big than get several small tattoos.

The one I want to get is HUGE and I want it on the right side...under my arm and will be from about the hip to somewhere under arm possibly breast height. I chose this area because I dont see many people with that spot and also it can hide the tattoo even with a halter. Here's a pic of a similar placement

I'm thinking about getting a colored phoenix flying in dark swirling clouds with peony and lotus flowers...the biggest lotus will rest on the hip and will have a scripture mantra "Om mani padme hum" "or hail to the jewel of the lotus" . Mantras usually have benefits ascribed to them like "Om" increases the wisdom of equanimity and purifies jealousy..so having on my body something I live by and having that permanently on me helps remind why I'm on this earth and what positive ways I should live it. I'm not religious, but definitely my spiritual side is something that influences all asthetics of my life. This mantra "om mani padme hum" is the same thing brandon boyd has on his arm.

The whole tattoo design has a lot of symbolism and philosophy put into it, but also is something in tribute for a friend who commited suicide who's middle name and the name he went by with friends was phoenix.

I have always had this tattoo in the back of my mind but never thought I'd do it.... even though its huge (I tried to scale it down and it doesn't look as nice when it's small) and I have a phobia of needles and I don't think I take needle pain well. I asked some tattoo artists already and they said it'll take at least half a dozen sessions to finish because of the size and the detail I want. If I do this I will not be getting anymore tattoos I don't think. All I'm doing this upcoming year is finding the right tattoo artist...I don't want to settle for anything but the best because it's my body we're dealing with and I want it to be right.

You may want to log on to this group and read some of the posts as a part of your decision making process: Tattoo Removal Support.

Bear in mind should you decide later that you want to get rid of it, green ink is one of the most difficult inks to remove.

Weird, when I got my tattoo, the tattoo artist told me that red and blue are difficult inks to remove and that green was easy to remove.
I was 16 when I got my tattoo. I have a daisy on my hip. My friend was killed and we both love daisies. I got the tatttoo because when we were around 13 we promised each other that we would get a daisy tattoo when we were older. I think tasteful tattoos are nice, but they sure are addicting.

I've been dying to get a tattoo but I just don't know of what just yet. I just thinking of a line of symbols like Aries, 4-leaf clover, Omega, and maybe Lambda.

A tattoo on the hip is a good spot, you can hide it or showcase it when you want. Ultimately, it's up to you where you get your tattoo.

Thought I should put some info up on removal then...I've read this from laser removal sites.

Laser treatments can permanently remove up to 95 percent of a tattoo and take several treatments. The laser breaks up the pigment and the tiny pigment particles are removed by the body's immune system. With laser treatments, tattoo ink color matters. Black is the easiest to remove since it absorbs the most of the laser wavelengths. Blue, black, and red ink fades the best. Oranges and purples usually respond well. Green and yellow inks are the most difficult to remove, although additional treatments can produce more fading to the green and yellow ink. the more obscure the colors in your tattoo, the harder the tattoo will be to remove. In general, professional tattoos require 6+ treatments, while amateur tattoos require 3-4 treatments, all spaced approximately 6-8 weeks apart. Still there are hundreds of types of ink all of which are not regulated by FDA thats why the physician can't predict how difficult it might be to remove.

The other permanent options are more invasive. The tattoo can be sanded off (dermabrasion), cut off (surgery) with or without skin grafting, or burned off (chemical peels).

No method is painfree. All are expensive. My friend described the removal like spilling hot oil on the skin and spent about $1000 to get a small tattoo off. Thats why I'm really thinking about what I'm inking on me before I commit.

^ I forgot to add....I do not know if skin color matters. I know before with laser hair removal and such they had problems with some scaring on darker skin, but it's slowly being improved. I just don't know if it applies to tattoo removal since none of the sites mentioned it.

am dying to get a little star on my wrist but it s too deja vu and i already have a chinese symbol of the word star

a bar code s cool too, but very few people will not make a stupid comment bout that

i love nicole s tattoo on her ankle but i already got a happy face mask on my ankle, i was thinking of adding something like a dangling chain or something like that

i want a cartoonish hamburger(no color, just the outline) on my hip as a reminder that i over came my eating disorder.
i think tattoos are pretty, when done right of course, i love when they are browns and just outlines.

^ ruby...congrats on overcoming your disorder. That is a very big step that not everyone makes until it's too late. :flower: Also, welcome to TFS. :)

I have two tattoos....still love them, and plan on loving them. One is a Japanese character meaning purity, I researched it tho...I took Japanese for two years in high school, so it's not like I went into it not knowing. I went out for a few dates with a guy once who got one ignorantly(he had no clue), the character he had gotten he thought meant friendship...and instead I forget what it actually meant, but it was pretty dreadful. Felt bad for the guy. Honestly

^ Thats like Britney Spears with her Japanese character...she thought it meant mysterious....but its translation was more towards the lines of "strange or weird"

i think people should get a tattoo that means something to THEM. i dont think they should care what anyone else thinks..i also think that, if you like tattoos, and get a tattoo, and meet someone who makes assumptions about your class or morality because you have a tattoo-why would you want anything to do with that person? if someone judges me because i have six tats, then that person is someone i have no interest in knowing...life's too short :)

but then i've never understood why ppl care what others think of their style. the one question that baffles me each time i see it posted on this board is "is this still in? should i buy this? will this be out soon? is this still trendy? i dont want to buy it if its not IN!"

if you like it, buy it. easy :)

^ its true...I dont get those who are so worried if this is the hot item sometimes...

I'm glad youre happy with your tats....

I'm hoping that I become a proud owner of one soon :)...it has so much symbolism and deep meaning into it that it went from one idea...to a big themed piece...

Even with the rise in tats...sadly a lot of places still won't accept it for professional purposes or ask you cover up... way back when it might have been associated with gangs, or biker hooligans....but thats not the case anymore. I see sweet lil grannies with a tat, professionals like doctors and lawyers, moms (my mom has one...got it this year ;) ) , dads (my stepdad has over over a dozen)..yet still tats somewhat still have a negative reputation to in amongsts certain circles... the place I picked for my future tattoo is good for a big piece, its unusual...and can be kept hidden so I dont have to worry...but what about someone who wants a full sleeve and wants to make it in a professional business?
