Teeth Whitening

WhiteStrips Question

I have a question for whoever uses the crest whitestrips. Do you brush before applying the strips? And, after removing the strips do you brush or just rinse teeth with water?:flower:

^ YES- i would highly recommend against gargling pure peroxide, even if it is diluted with water! It is incredibly toxic, and the quantitites used in whitening products are miniscule compared to garling a whole mouthful of it!!

when using baking soda to whiten your teeth how long does it take to see the results?

No, You do not bursh before you apply them. I usually don't brush until a little while afterward either (maybe 20 minutes at least. So I usually apply them at random times during the day. Or in the shower. Or on the treadmill. Or on the commute home from work/school or whatever.

I have a question too though, What about those new "5 minutes a day" whitestrips? Are those supposed to be used regularly for everyday stains or just in 2 week stints once or twice a year like the 30-minute white strips? Has anyone tried them yet?

My favorite is Crest Whitestrips Renewal. I use them about twice a year but I don't go through the package all at once. You're supposed to do it 2x a day but I always forget so it takes about a month for me to get through the whole box. It's meant for older people to take years off your teeth but I am only 22 and I like them. I do drink an awful lot of coffee and diet soda though and I also smoke cigarettes so I may have more use for it than people who don't do any of that.

^ try ebay maybe, or drugstore.com

I'm due for another set of whitestrips. pinksatin, I didnt know they have renweal ones. Thanks for the report! I'll try those.

Oh, thanks GG- i didn't even think of that! Which are the best do you think? I want the super duper ones that while make my teeth glow with minimum effort ;) I'm so lazy with my gel/mouthplate thing.

crest whitestrips work great. The renweal ones seem good from the sound of it too, they're just a newer type of whitestrip.

Ok, so I just saw the "5 minutes a day" whitestrips at the supermarket. I'm totally not going to try them. From what I can tell based on reading the box you are supposed to whiten your teeth to the desired whiteness and maintain that by preventing daily stains by using those ones 5 minutes a day. It's marketed as "daily oral care". The box has 42 strips so that would last you 3 weeks (21 days of top and bottom) and it's $39.99. I think it sounds gimicky and like they want you to become dependant on their product. I'll just do my normal twice yearly home whitening thankyouverymuch. I don't feel the need to prevent daily stains by spending $40 every 3 weeks. Isn't that what brushing and flossing are for?

has anyone tried crest night effects?
it's a bottle and comes with little brushes that you paint onto your teeth at night and brush off in the morning.
i'll be trying it tonight.

My Mom always told me to do this! I would put the baking soda on the tooth brush (with just a little bit of water on it) and brush... its basically like you're brushing with a powder. I would say do this and then brush your teeth as normal. I'd say you'd see results within a week, similar to the whitening strips.

The idea of gargling with peroxside is making is very nervous:o I am imagining smoke flowing out my mouth or something:lol:

 I've read through the whole thread here but am still unsure - sorry this is going to sound a bit stupid! I picked up a leaflet today on BriteSmile whitening that is described as a "light activated whitening procedure - is this just bleaching the teeth when it comes down to it? does it affect the enamel? I suppose it must be kinder to the teeth than normal bleach since it is so expensive. Or perhaps the lasers do something different and special to the teeth. Is it the same as Zoom whitening?

I've been feeling lately my teeth are getting dull from all the coffee I drink but I am worried about using too much whitening toothpaste etc and damaging/thinning the teeth.

I've used Crest White Strips, the Aquafresh whitening trays, and GoSMILE and, GoSMILE is definitely the best out of those three. Sure, it's more expensive but, the results are great (and worth the extra money).

i also think they are the most convenient. you can use the ampules anywhere..even if your just sitting their watching tv. did you try the new flavors for gosmile? i tried peach.

I've been using the 30-minute Crest White Strips for about a week and a half. You're supposed to see a difference in about 5 days and I've gone about 9 w/o any results :(

I'll keep going though. How long did it take you guys to see results?

^From what i know (and i'm pretty sure) they don't whiten your teeth, they just remove the stains, so that means that if your natural colour isn't white, they won't get white.

bought the crest premium whitestrips... tried for the first just 30 minutes ago... no sensitivity problems until i laid down on my bed and the gel touched the chipped off teeth...... which are my two front teeth.... it hurt but i pressed on them and it stopped hurting.. i don't mind wearing them for 30 minutes twice a day but my issue is saliva. lol. for some reason i produced a lot of saliva and it was uncomfortable cause i wanted to spit it so badly but i was afraid the strip might come off... i hope i can see the results faster...... actually i hope they work...

So if you want to use baking soda, you'd just put some on a brush and brush your teeth? Do you add water? And also, do you just regularly brush your teeth after? And of course, is it completely safe? I don't want anything going wrong with my teeth, so I just want to make sure. Any help is appreciated! :flower:

Well...the crest white strips (regular strips) work for me...in fact it only took about a week 'till i saw really nice results.
