because for every fan of Daria there are millions of Gwyneth, Kate Hudson, etc that's why!

Is it that complicated to undertsand?
Then maybe you will agree that Ms Wintour is more suited to edit Us Weekly rather than a
fashion magazine about
fashion as promoted by
fashion models.
You complain models are not interesting. Why? Because they don't give an interview about their love life alongside the photoshoot? Because despite spilling the beans, most of the cover subjects are bland, bland, bland. You cannot say to me that people like Jennifer Aniston are interesting.
Selling figures are not the measure of success for a fashion magazine. Influence and creativity are. US Vogue is influential all right, but only because advertisers know their ads will get exposure. They know the Us Vogue audience is made in big part by the kind of people who is very likely to buy a designer bag or t-shirt to taste a bit of the celebrity life-style. It's the kind of influence publications like People and Grazia have. It's not particularly prestigious frankly.
However, you kind of have a point about models. The fashion industry's current obsession with under-age and under-fed Bulgarian orphans is tiresome. I understand they want to avoid the repeat of the 80s phenomena of models getting more press than the clothes, but going from Divas to invisible women is just too extreme a step.
There are models with interesting personalities, who have lived a bit and can hold a conversation. I dislike the looks of Lily Cole, Karen Elson and Gemma, but those girls have more spunk than a Jennifer Connely (who is very pretty but very boring). Just listen to them when they are allowed to talk, they are not boring girls.
I can understand the appeal of Hollywood glamour but if she
has to put celebrities on the cover, at least could she choose some who are related to the fashion world. Nicole Kidman makes sense, Cate Blanchet makes sense, those are glamorous women who understand fashion. But Hudson? Aniston? Britney? Bullock? What on hearth?
I will just end to say I do buy Us Vogue often (maybe every two issues), but to me it's a glossy gossip/lifestyle magazine, like Tatler. And like Tatler, I mostly laugh at the pretentiousness of the fashion statements from people who obviously don't care about fashion and just read the lights articles on the socialites for distraction during my bus ride. It doesn't have any fashion credential, imo.
Vogue Paris/ Italia and W are
whole different experiences.
