^ i love them :woot: what do you use to outline them? i love the links with your source...
Thanks so much! I just used a cheap black pen, the pens with the runny ink, not the ball point. The only thing I'm not happy about with it is the coloring. I shouldn't have used colored pencils, it takes away from the slickness of it.

thanks for the tips, dior couture. Are you a professional illustrator??
I was noticing there are different kinds of fashion illustrations. You see ones that are like sketches with everything drawn quickly and simply, and then you see ones by other artists like you see in the Art & Design forum (ie. Charles Anastase, Mas Gustafson...) which are very complete and look like they took a long time. Both have the clothing design
Is there any difference between the two? I think it's been answered here before, but I can't find it...
no i dont think so...i remember seeing the dolce&gabbana illustrations in the 20 years book, and some were done very fully, but one dress was really quickly drawn, and scribbled in with highlighter...but i dont think there is much physical difference between the two...

here is one i did for tfs runway illustrations. i used black ink and watercolours

my scanners not working so i had to use a camera.

i find it difficult to dipict white without it looking bland, how do people do it?

here i used a faint yellow in places, as i thought that it would reflect of the bright yellow top.

any ideas?

- the background isn't supposed to be purple, it is just the camera!

a kind of napoleonic feel to it, but with lots of biast cuts and pressure around the legs, and strange heels on the shoe

do you guys tend to find designing gets easier as you go along? and could someone tell me what they think of mine, i cant stand them, i feel really bad at designing stuff....

No....I don't think designing gets easier as you go along. What I do think....what I know....is that when you've found inspiration, real inspriration, it's very easy to design. For example, I find inspiration, but usually it wears out after a few garments (for a collection), but when I designed a Japanese collection, I just whipped one out right after another, the ideas just never stopped comming and it was really easy to design.

And then at other times.....I can't even design a t-shirt that I like.

About your design, JR, I think they're very conceptual, and I like that. They've got that great creativity that reminds me of Galliano and a cutting edge look that we see from McQueen. Do you ever design a collection? Or do you just design single outfits. See, I prefer to design collections....I find them more fun. Have you ever tried doing a collection?

^ no, but i'll think about giving the collection a go :woot:

and i agree with you on the inspiration thing...i think its just when you have nothing in your head its hard to think of something...but im away for the weekend, so i will get my thinking caps on :magic: and think about doing a collection for when im back :flower:

dior_couture1245 vbmenu_register("postmenu_2127380", true); i find it really hard for me to design a collection.
can you give more advices about collection and inspiration??
and guys i would really like it if you criticize my designs that i posted here earlier!;)

thanks for answering my question, you guys. i guess all the illustrations are the same :)

For inspiration, I always try to think of things that are an expression of myself. I look at designs, paintings, things from nature, etc. that look very "me" and I use those to make up new designs. I think if you do it this way, you'll never run out of ideas. Plus it looks more original...
I always do research when I am looking for inspiration. Miuccia Prada and Marc Jacobs also do that...everyone, I think... They always try to "re-invent" something by changing the silhouette, the colour, the embellishment.

And since I usually design for myself, I always try to keep in mind colours and designs that look good on me. I always think of something I would like to wear (Consuela at Marni says that too :D). Sometimes I design for my sister and I always ask her what kind of things she likes (music, fashion, etc.). It's always a challenge because we like almost opposite things...
I think for collections, you can try thinking of an abstract theme... maybe like "silence" or "earth" and maybe the designs will look more interesting/original that way.

Well, I personally like to take inspiration from cultures around the world, or historical/ period clothes, that way I have plenty to look for when doing research. I did a few designs that were centered around Marie Antoinette. So, for those couple of dresses I did, I looked at lots of reference images online as well as paintings and other art forms from around that period. I print out lots of pictures and just surround myself with all of reference images and just start drawing.

Also, I like to listen to music that conveys the mood of the 'collection' while I'm researching/ designing, that way I'll always have that feel with me. To further expand on the example I've given, the Marie Antoinette collection I designed was supposed to be very light-hearted and have a bit of a naughty side, so I listened to the song "Evil Woman" by Electric Light Orchestra on repeat for hours while desiging. I also like to listen to the song on repeat while I'm just thinking of ideas, while I'm walking or doing something else to keep my mind focused on the collection/ ideas at hand.

So, when you've found a great fountain of inspiration, it's very simple to create a collection because the ideas never stop coming. Take all the pictures you've gotten (or whatever visual tool you're using for inspiration) and just work off it. In my Marie Anoinette designs, I designed similar dresses in different lengths and colors....that'll give you about three garments to start your collection off. Then I took some of the menwear of the time and spun it into a feminine suit. That's how I always go about designing collections.
