They're just so beautiful, JR1

And I think I'll put a tablet-thing on my wish list :D

^ you should, there only around £30-£40, but if you do get one, when you first use it - dont think im not good at this, because its very hard to use on your first go - so practice makes perfect :flower::heart:

wow JR1, you're really prolific! How much time do you spend on each drawing?

Speaking of tablets...

I use a graphics tablet as well but it's a 9x12 wacom tablet which I got about a year ago for $500 Canadian (maybe $400 or so American dollars?). If you're serious about illustration you need the biggest tablet you can afford. The 5x7 inch tablets are quite affordable though. I like to work as close as possible to 1:1 ratio to my screen. Check wacom's site to see the selection. They're pretty much the main tablet people.

I prefer to do my sketches by hand and then scan them in, I think it looks more organic, and then do the colouring on the computer. I used the big two... Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop (student versions are more affordable, I got the whole Adobe Suite for about $300 Canadian). These are of course the main tools used by most digital illustrators, but there are specialty programs as well like Corel Painter that you can get unique styles and effects with.

A lot of my colouring techniques I learned by looking at professional comic book illustrators on the web. Many of them have tutorials on their websites that are interesting to try out. It's a lot of trial and error like JR1 said, illustration is about always practicing, like music. It's a matter of learning about the different tools and layer modes and techniques and developing the best ways to use them. Professional comic book colourists have almost always developed a method that is unique to them, just like artists who work in analog media.

Thanks for posting so many pictures everyone, I love to see what's new!

the best tablets are pressure sensitive.

Here's an example of a drawing I did entirely on the tablet (it was a submission to "runway illustration game", sorry for the repost)

You can kind of see how the pressure sensitivity works, the lines are almost like if I was using a felt tip marker.

headlessmaiden... I don't think that drawing is bad at all, It's got a rather distinct style about it the only thing I'd say is to get yourself some good quality colouring pencils, or experiment with different medias :flower:

headlessmaiden , I also like your illo! She's got a cute little character to her that is quite endearing. The only thing I notice is she seems to be falling over...

In illlustration class they taught us to draw a vertical line straight down from the head. If you make sure that your figure's feet are on either side of the line or directly on the line, it makes them seem like they're actually standing. Simple, but it really works.

I daresay there's a touch of manga influencing mine as well...

I just spent all weekend, like 12 hours a day sketching ideas for my grad collection at school. I have done 25 fronts and 25 backs. Not only is the illustration my own here, but so is the design... Am I on the right track?

What an experience... now I have to show the profs, the industry people and everyone at school...

finalfashion - i spend about 30mins on each drawing, but saying that a few days ago it was like 45 mins...and 1 hour before so it varies :flower: love your blog also
