The 4-5 piece French wardrobe #2

I think they look good. You may want to check that the crystals are easily replaceable JIC. My problem stone was iridescent green/yellow, marquis shape :innocent:

I personally prefer leather soles, but a lot of people like this type of sole. (I walk fast & tend to trip when I wear rubber-type soles ...)

Thx for the tip. And yes - that do not sound easy to replace :p I think theyll stay on the shoe, else I'll take 'em to the store.

I hadn't thought about the rubbersoles issue, but I think it will be fine for my need. I find flats with too thin a sole less comfortable and a bit unpractical since they will be worn out fast.

Do a fabric in 95% viscose and 5% elasthan sounds like a nice quality to you? It is a dress costing 115 GBP, so I want to be sure that the quality is nice (webshopping - so I cant check it out in real life first)

^ in addition to quality, the feel of fabric is important. if you prefer dry natural fibers (wool, cotton, linen), or softer fibers, like silk (natural), viscose, satin, etc. that is a factor.

^ Sure, it could be ... I believe that's basically rayon/Lycra. There's good rayon and bad rayon, good silk and bad silk, etc., etc. ...

I would just check out the return policy.

PS I find packing things up to be a PITA, so I like to return things to the brick and mortar store (where they exist).

Unfortunatly it is an english webshop and I live en Denmark, so returning it would be very expensive (about 40 USD for returnpostage and 40 USD for regular postage, which is what the dress price is now (about 80USD) where it is on sale. I think the quality look nice though, just have had bad shopping karma on the internet lately. But I think I'll go for it.

I want to make this a little more precise...

Shoes

I already own black and beige ballet flats. Bought them last summer and they still look perfect... It was well worth the price ;-)
For shoes I really need:
  • black high heels (not too high though as I'm already 174!)
  • sandals ( Michael Kors and MJ make beautiful ones)
  • wedges. (The high heels & sandals count as basics in my opinion...so it's ok I guess)
Top
  • Black leather jacket (every leather jacket I find is far too big and thick...I'm looking for a shorter, well fitted, thin one like the Rick Owens one below - this one is too expensive for me though! If anyone has seen one... please let me know ;-) )
  • White and black dresses for summer

Bottom

  • black mini skirt
  • pants in a bright colour (either orange or blue)
Other
  • grey light weight scarf by American Apparel
  • Marc Jacobs Bag
  • Black bikini (I cannot wait to run around in a bikini nonstop soooon!)

Ta-Ta: Thank you for your advice on a white dress. I agree that patters and different fabrics will make stains less visible...
I'm still a little unsure about a light dress for me though. I own white tanks and white Ts... and cannot wear them more than 1,5 days ;-)

Anyways, I did find a dress I like very much for this summer.

I also found a miniskirt that I like... I'm not sure if black is really that appropriate for summer though.

I also made a collage with a wishlist for some items for this summer.
Thankfully I just finished my master thesis and hope I get some money for shopping for graduation ;-)

This thread is amazing, so many great ideas and tips! Since I am entering a new decade this year my goal is to keep 10 clothes (winter/summer included) and then create a new wardrobe of 34 pieces which is a crossroad between Michelle Obama in term of colours and Charlize Theron in term of simplicity and cuts. That being said I always have a hard time shopping because I am looking for THE perfect piece and I never compromise whether it's the fabric, cut, colour (!) or price. I don't really follow trend, I try to pick clothes that I know I will love 5 or 10 years down the road.

You guys have really great taste btw :flower:

Love your pieces! Actually, two of your APC choices are on my wishlist, too :) The blue and red sweater and the red skirt have both been on my "favorites" list on net-a-porter for weeks now. The sweater looks like a perfect casual piece and the skirt should look very lovely on most figures and good to combine.

I'm in such a dilemma. I found a good dress in nice quality, on sale (the on I was talking about the other day) and still needs black flats - think Im going to buy the ones that I showed you earlier. I DO have the money, but I'm not excactly swimming in cash ATM and can't figure out wether I should put the money in my "bag savings" which is kind of low ATM because of a huge heat bill.

Im really bad at making decissions, if you haven't noticed ;)

Right now I feel like spoiling myself since I've been good at saving money and selling clothes I dont use, but I also want to be able to buy that bag before I start my education this september.

Bettinaple: I know it sometimes can be hard to buy the things I really need before the ones that I just really fall in love with. I'm one of those who is always tempted to buy the great dress, the fancy top or the red peep toes before the black pump or black flat and before the simple staples like white tees or button-downs. BUT I think it's good to keep the focus on the must-haves first, on the things that you really really need to make your wardrobe (as a whole) work. So I personally would recommend you to safe the money on the dress right now, because while dresses are GREAT they are not a thing that you really need to make other pieces work. I'd buy the shoes first and keep saving on the bag because having a great bag is just one of the best investions you can make. I KNOW I often don't feel like spending lots of money on something like a bag when I think how many dresses, tops etc I could buy for it. But I'm convinced the bag (if wisely chosen) will outlast everything else and the price-per-wear is in the end much better than the cheaper pieces.

You are perfectly right and Im really bad at buying high heels and pretty dresses that aren't as wearable as more basic items. My problem is that I can't figure out what I need the most. The bag has been on my musthavelist for a long time, the dress hasn't. However, I do have a good bag, he black one is so that I have something to change with and for using as a school bag. I dont NEED it untill september. The dress could be used on everyday basis and for parties. Im going to a wedding later this year and actually don't have a dress to wear. I've gained som weight the past months and has gotten bigger especially around the bust area, so many of my dresses have become too tight.

Well then, it sounds like you know the answer :) Seems the dress is a must-have for you, so if you feel like that, go for it. If it's really worth it from what you see. The only problem I see is that dresses have to fit right in so many areas and from my experience it can be hard to get a good dress when ordering online. My best dresses are not those I ordered but those I bought in a store. But if you feel that the dress is gorgeous and fits all your needs then why not give it a try? ^_^

Just sold the maxidress that didn't fit me, so I think I'll give it a try, since it is so cheap that I can sell it if it doesnt fit me. I aggree though, so it is kind of a tough call. However, I now have enough money to save for my bag AND by shoes and a dress, so I think Ill go for it :) thx for your feedback!

So I finally did it and got the red/blue sweater from A.P.C. - I've been eyeing it since I first saw it. Actually I wanted to get a black miniskirt first, as it's been on my wishlist for a while, but since the sweater is sold out basically everywhere I felt the urge to buy it NOW. I would be quite upset if it was gone by the time I have found a miniskirt I truly love.

It'll arrive on Monday - and I cannot wait <3 It's very very much my style and I think I'll live in it...

Then have a nice time treating yourself! Can't wait to see a picture of the dress! And I still feel sad about the maxidress, it looked lovely

Btw, I just bought this simple navy jersey cardigan. I know it doesn't look like anything exiting but I really need some light weight cardigans in my wardrobe now to complement my transseasonal dressing. I see it as a staple :) And it looks lovely with my tees!

Oh, I'm so sorry! I wanted to post it but forgot! The picture is from net-a-porter.com

The cardigan is a Vanessa Bruno cardigan.

@Bonjourtristesse: I understand. Would be a shame if it got sold out. Hope it is great!

@RedAndNavy: not everything need to be exciting. I think it is the "non-exciting (aka basic)" stuff that maxes the exciting things work. It is sad, yes, it is such a lovely dress but there is not enough room for my bust -.-

That's a GREAT choice! As I've written earlier, it's been on my net-a-porter wish list for a long time now, too, but you've been quicker than I am. I absolutely love it :D

Thank you guys, I feel reaffirmed now ;-)

I like the Vanessa Bruno cardigan, it'll be perfect over summerdresses and lose pants in the summer... I'd wear it alot if I were you :-)
