^ im 23 and i need to sort my damn closet out pronto! :|
everytime i read this thread i get inspired but ive just not had time this year! :( - at all!

^ You could try breaking it down ... as you're choosing clothes to wear, place things in a designated question mark area. Then give yourself an assignment to consider (for example) two items each week & find a way to make them work (which could include assigning them to a future capsule wardrobe because you really believe the item is worth saving) or discard. Just something you feel is manageable ... that way you can start chipping away & making progress. (Btw ... what ever happened to my Your clutter clearing style thread? It was about general clutter clearing, but there were some ideas that might be helpful with a closet ...)

As far as donations, I usually wait till I have about 6 boxes/bags/large individual items, and then I go drop them off. Of course there are lots of organizations that will pick up (in the US anyway) ...

Alternatively, you could pull out the good stuff & start by creating your capsule wardrobe for this season. Or, you could do both ;)

Very interesting to see your style evolution, ta-ta! It's funny what you mentioned in your black clothing phase ... about your wardrobe hinging on one item. My wardrobe might suffer a bit of that in that it really relies on maybe 2 pairs of pants. Which is why I had such a difficult time with the sudden weight gain! Also, so true about not letting things collect dust, this really hits home for me now.

belowen - I have similar feelings all the time, I'm too young to be a mother. And I'm in my 30's!

i finally get the the silky top i want. it's uniqlo and it's PURPLE! yay!!!!

I would think it would only be bad if you get really bored with it, but I'd buy one or extra of something if I love it (and how it fits) that much.

will having atleast 2 pairs of each item be a bad thing?

Two white Ts are good ... two black pants are good, but I do different styles. But for not so fundamental items, I prefer having multiple things that work. I have the same rolled-hem sweater in ivory and black (but different sizes! the black is smaller), and I can generally wear them with the same things--but maybe the accessories and makeup change. You just don't want to be in a position where you have outfits hinging on the same item, and if it's at the cleaners (or God forbid gone!), you're screwed. The only scenario where I find that acceptable is an interview outfit ... and if I expect to be interviewing, I take the components to the cleaners and don't wear them, except to an interview.

Speaking of which ... I have (had) two white Ts currently, and the cleaners has just ruined both of them. This is not supposed to happen :p Maybe if I get three I'll be safe :innocent:

^ Very true, I have like a mix of everything, like if I have 1 white T I have 3 blacks, and 2 greys.
Its all really like that!
So Im a bit clueless on how to sort it all.
I need to get my pencil skirts sorted too. I had 4! and now NONE

Im more of a color person, or black and white - I have my phases, so Im totally lost at this point with all the mixes and too many or too less of every color!

sigh.

^ I don't think there's any one certain mix that is 'right' ... it's all about is it working for you. Can you put together outfits you like & feel comfortable in with what you have?

I really like white Ts in the summer because they feel so cool under the hot sun ... if I'm going to be outside (rather than go sit in the AC) I don't feel like wearing a black or navy top. A very pale grey would probably have a similar effect ...

Do you know what you're going to be wearing this summer?

I think Im going for prints and a few plains, like brights red, fuschia and orange? I do like teal too. I got some fabric so Im going to sit down with my tailor and design a few dresses and tops to wear. Stuff that I can wear all year round. Thats my summer plan - clothes-wise.

I can put together outfits but its getting very monotonous in terms of color and style. I think I may need to branch out with different cuts etc? :S not sure.

Its too hot here. Alost 40 degrees everyday so Im trying to find clothes and material/fabric thats good for this weather - comfortable actually. Its too hot and humid!

My 5 pieces for spring/summer:
1) Current/Elliott boyfriend jeans (never had'em, thought they wouldn't work on my body, yadda yadda...moral of story is you don't know **** unless you try things on, hahaha)
2) J Brand cargo pants
3) platforms (YSL, Louboutin, Kurt Geiger, Miu Miu, Jeffrey Campbell...Jessica Simpson hahaha; WHATEVER works)
4) Elizabeth + James artist or laurent shirt
5) perfect oxfords, ballet flats, or loafers *** (whichever I think I'd get most use out of)

Man, that was hard. I wanna add on a dress (nude or pastel pink), a chambray shirt, a panama hat, and light wash roll up shorts too

Well I went shopping today to replace my white Ts, thinking I was going to get three instead of two ... Oh, and I was going to pick up a black one too  Instead I got none, and this blouse from Barney's, but in the jade green of the dress pic. I spent 3 hours just trying on shirts, and this was the only one I really liked. The only reason it was still there is someone had gotten makeup, etc. on it, but alterations cleaned it up for me. It was on sale though!

Of course now is a terrible time to go shopping, because the good stuff from spring is already gone. So I'm just going to have to keep my eyes peeled ...

I also need some new flats. Where I'm working now, I'm on the third floor, so I'm always trotting up and down stairs ... the only thing I can do on my floor is go to the printer, everything else--vending machine, cafeteria, you name it--is down one or two flights of stairs. And there are acres of parking lot ... so I really only have one pair of flats that is absolutely suitable. Two at a stretch. So I looked at shoes a bit, and found one pair that works. So I may go back & get those ... It seems that thong sandals are the thing right now, and so many of them either cut into my feet or separate my toes in a most unattractive way  It just seems like another opportunity for blisters to me :p

^ Forgot to mention, it's 3.1 Philip Lim, which I have found to be curve-friendly ...

It's beautiful ta-ta, great choice! And on sale :stuart:

i LOVE the color!

p.s. u get really nice and comfy gladiator flats these days. there was a time they werent and i hated them but i think ul be blister-free now :)

bottegaveneta

Thanks

This is an example of what I mean ... the thong piece seems totally gratuitous! And the fit was terrible ... granted, I had to try it on a bit bigger than my size, but my first and second toes were in different states
