The 60th anniversary of the liberation of the KL Auschwitz

Definitely. I need to travel to all of the places, especially to Auschwitz, one day. I have to find a point in my life that I feel ready for that, but it is something that I know that I do need to do.
I also wanted to share this piece; I was compelled to put it together after visiting the museum in Washington. Although it's quite small, the intention would be as a monument. I made it from bent and burnt wires, and layers of melted wax.

It is very beautiful. Thank you so much.
It's very wonderful that people all over the world can unite in special days like this...

awesome piece.
thank you for sharing - everyone.
i've been in tears for days now.

i'm not Jewish and i'm from the Caribbean and have not been personally affected.. but ever since i was a child, even while i lived in the Caribbean, i was always struck by the stories of what happened... always drawn to it. human survival, ingenuity, capacity for suffering and the capacity for hate and to carry it out - i found extremely interesting, powerful, moving and i ... i don't know what word to use... not the word 'enjoy' but i've always been very interested, drawn and moved.

in that light, i find it interesting and hopeful in that the efforts made to make sure the world does not forget - does work... i learnt about it and i've been touched by it all my life.

when i went to North Holland, i went to the woods and saw the dugouts where Jews hid, and listened to the elderly talk about what happened and went to a train station where Jews etc. were to be shipped directly to Auschwitz (sorry - spelling?). That's as close as i got to Auschwitz, and the memorial building with pictures, stories etc were powerful.

ah... i'm running the risk of being politically incorrect here, i really hope i don't offend anyone: while i think we should always remember, we should never ever forget, i wish to see the efforts starting to spread out more (i'm not aware of what efforts have been made, so if there are efforts, NGOs out there like this, i apologize for my ignorance), to make sure we realize that genocide has still been taking place, even since the Holocaust, and that we've been blind to it.

i do not wish to take the attention away from the effort to fight Anti-Semitism, for it definitely exists and there is danger of it rising up again, but i wish that - oh let's say 25% of the funds & resources would go to educating the world that the root of the holocaust - hatred and racism - still exists and that we need to look at our fellow humans as being one race - the human race - i'm thinking specifically of the genocide in Rwanda and in Sudan, as new examples.. the horror of what's happening and the fact that there has been little intervention from the west. we need to eradicate hatred, intolerance and racism, in all of their forms.

I also feel very touched ...and I would like to recommend the book "Night" by Elie Wiesel, a Holocaust survivors tale, to anyone whos interested. The book isnt that long but it truly get the pain, horror, and fear people had to feel who were in the concentration camps. It is such an unforgettable novel, and I still find it hard to believe that the author lived through such horrid tragedy and horror.

"INDIFFERENCE IS STRONGER THAN HATE"....
my favorite quote from the book which I believe. If you feel indifferent about someone you dont care what happenes to them...you practically regard them as not human. Even though you might hate someone, it significe that you have some type of STRONG emotion towards them and care about what happens or doesnt happen with them. If you hate someone it also shows that you acknowledge their existence. "Night" is truly a captivating piece of literature!!!

I am almost afraid to read this books...Whenever i see some footage/images or read articles of the holocaust, i allways start to cry.

The movie "The Pianist" by Roman Polanski is a true story about the holocaust but also of hope.
The first 15 minutes are so hard to see that i couldn´t stop crying and i almost had to leave (i was crying loud). And this first 15 minutes are about the time when the pianist was in the Warsaw ghetto (one also never think about the ghettos where many died too and life was horrible).

It revolts me so much how something massive like this ever happened (and continues to happen too). Sometimes we just live our lives like everything is so safe, secure and faraway, like everything was so granted that no one could take that away from us. And is so not true...

Guys, I'm trying to say something, but nothing relevant enough comes to mind. Only tears in my eyes...
