The Acne Thread #2

I loved MB's products as well, the drying lotion seemed to really work. However after a month or so my skin completely broke out- the alcohol in the product completely dried my skin out. I have suffered from acne for around 12 years now, the only thing that has helped me is taking vit e + fish oil tablets as well as using benzoyl peroxide twice a day, and the usual- lots of water, fruit, veg and exercise. My skin is now completely clear.

has anyone tried "Bio-Oil"? it has this ingredient called Purcellin oil and it's supposed to moisturize and fade scars.. i just bought a bottle from the drugstore and am wondering if it's any good, or just another cosmetic placebo...

^ I used this, can't really use it in daytime cos it is greasy even when it says it isn't. Can't use it with my moisturisers either cos they seem to combine and solidify on my face..

mehh.

I tried Bio-OIl on some scars but after going through a bottle and a half, I didn't notice any difference. It worked well as a body moisturizer though.

thanks for your replies, daniel and meeks. hmmm that doesn't sound very reassuring... i have a bottle right now that i'm hoping will fade some scars. it is very greasy as you say... :(

^I would suggest TCA chemical peels or Fraxel re;pair. The others no offence don't really do much..products imo that are used to erase scars actually create more acne problems.

TCA stands for tri-chloroacetic acid
& they are in the hundreds.. say 600 + but its a 'one off' treatment apparently if the strength of the peel is HIGH. Normal chemical peels that don't reall do anything except smooth your skin cost around 90 +

Starting 13th November I'll be under isotretinoin! It's crazy and very scary how many side effects there are! And on French Tv there was this documentary abt that treatment. I was shocked to hear that people committed suicide or killed people because of that treatment, even though links between the treatment and the suicides etc weren't proved.

Right now I take doxycycline monohydrate for a month. And I also have as a moisturizer: Sebium AKN by Bioderma. It's a really good cream that moisturizes and it also makes your skin perfect and beautiful! It's expensive though ( 14,80€ for 30ml ).

Hey Laz
I've been on it for nearly two months. I rarely get spots now, so it does work miracles, though my acne wasn't severe.
I do get mood swings, but I'd say the worse symptoms is dry lips. Carmex is a life-saver!

Oh thanks! It's so reassuring to hear that ! ^_^ I got a friend who's been on it for 2 months too and she told me the same thing about dry lips. and she said :" oh it's gonna be fine, everyone gets dry lips in winter time"!

at the beginning did you get more spots? or your skin started to get dry quickly?

It took a few days before I got the side effects and there was a bit of an initial breakout yeah but after two weeks the breakouts got less and less. Patience is key!
I can't wait to finish my course though because it does make your skin sensitive and I find it hard to concentrate in school sometimes. But it'll be worth it! I'm just happy it's being treated, if it wasn't I'd be more upset than I am with the side-effects!

anyone know if vitamin A cream is as good as it promises (reduces wrinkles, evens out skintone etc)? i got a container of it from the drugstore and i've found it to be quite oily.

Yeah breakout, that's the word I was looking for. Well, I hate breakouts! lol I hope it won't be too bad. I hope I'll be able to concentrate because I've got exams coming up next week.
Do you have to moisturise your skin a lot, like twice a day or just in the morning?

Yeah I empathise with that, I have A-level exams in January!
I find you can't stop your skin flaking with moisturising, it's just your skin shedding and it happens more often on Accutane. I moisturise in the morning and maybe before bed, it probably does help but everyone's different so you'll just have to adjust the amount you moisturise to accommodate how dry your skin gets

I hope you'll be able to concentrate for your A-level!
Ok thanks for the information! It's very useful!
I hope my skin won't dry easily 'cuz if you keep moisturizing you'll have to scrub someday, right?

Oooh I have jhust ordered a gyclolic acid kit from bravura london. I hop it comes soon. And then I hope it works!

I'm trying this tea tree oil face wash, and it's making my skin dry. :ermm:
I hope it's just one of the side effects and my skin will go back to normal.

^That's one of the reasons why I now avoid tea tree oil products in general. It really dries me out :(

My sisters suffers from severe acne. She has tried different cures, but no effect. She has even been to a dermatologists, still nothing.

Now she is using On-The-Spot Acne Treatment, but it doesn't work on her.

All this acne problem really effects on her mood and self-esteem :(
