The Acne Thread

LOL. I made a topic on Cocoa Butter / Shea Butter a while back. This stuff does wonders for skin. For those of you who asked where you can get it try Wal-Marts or an Africian Beauty Store. I found out about this stuff when I was in grade 8 and all the girls in the locker room were using it for their dry skin. (my highschool was for the most part a "minority" school--everyone was black, asian, mexican...then white folks!)

I absoultely love this product. Although i didn't know it worked for ezema. (spell?) I will have to pass that tidbit on to someone else.

I have a huge scar post op on my chest and I was using pure vit. E lotion for a year and it rarely reduced the size of the scar. The Shea Butter has worked wonders. The scar went from being red and thick to a very light pink thin scar. If its not gone in a few years, I will remove it surgicially!

About 2 months ago, I started this new regimen which helped my clear 98% of my acne. And believe, I had really bad skin before. I've done EVERYTHING, used everyproduct, went to see gazillions of dermatologists, got prescribed everything (everything that's a level less strong than Accutane) and never got it right. :(

So here's the regimen:
- Wash your face 3 times your face with the PINK Dove soap bar (extremely cheap) (In the past I've tried ALL cleansers from Neutrogena, L'Oreal, Clean and Clear, Clearasil, Oxy, Clinique, Biotherm......)

- Only hydrate when needed (with Almay moisturizer for oily skin), which means that only hydrate before applying makeup when parts of your skin is just TOO dry

- During daytime, ONLY if needed, put on Almay skin clearing concealer on your acne (I used the medium shade) that contains 1% salysilyc acid.

- Eat a lot of fruits everyday (at least 2) I ate apples

- Skip the oily and sugary food away : I quit eating chocolate, oily food, chips, soft drinks.

- Drink 2 L of water everyday (4 bottles of Naya water) or more.

- DO NOT pop your zits

-When REALLY needed, use a scrub (no more than once a week), I used the Clinique rinse off one. But if you can, just slightly scrub your dead skin away under the shower.

-Avoid ANY kind of foundation, powder, blush and makeup anytime it's possible.

-At night, my derm prescribed me a treatment that's a mix of Solugel 8% and Clindamycin 0.45 and apply it on ALL your face the way you'd apply an anti wrinkle cream.

-Change your pillowcase as often as possible

-Keep your hair of your face, tie it up if possible.

Good luck. :flower:

that's awesome, kimkhuu, I'm happy for you :flower:

I'll print it and give it to my sister :P

What I meant is SLIGHTLY scrubbing your skin WITH YOUR HANDS under the shower to remove dead skin.

i do this too every time i shower, it works wonders- its like a mini facial :flower:

Congrats!

I guess I'm sort of glad I don't wear foundation... the Zitty puberty years in high school weren't fun.

Oh I'm really happy for you... :flower: acne can be a major problem...
I used to have some spots (nothing very serious though) but one thing that helped me a lot was starting to take the yasmin pill - since i started taking it, I never had spots anymore. I've read in a magazine that this pill is in fact used to treat acne...

Yeeeeey for Kimkhuu! :flower:

Fortunately, I've never had acne problems...I've probably had ten zits my whole life. I'll probably be blessed with acne in my early 30's, as my mother was...yikes.

Anyway, I always love reading advice on good skin... I try to exfoliate ever so slightly every day. I love beaming cheeks.

LOL.

I was thinking the same thing but then I figured my sister would have a problem because the only water she drinks comes in her coffee and she smokes so it would just be a wasted piece of paper and effort.

I'm like Erin, I have really good skin but thats because I take care of it.

But happy to hear you got rid of your acne. If your a smoker try cutting back on that and you'll see how much your acne clears up.

okay I'm 16 and have mild acne and I dunno I think it's just part of being a teen and my hormones or whatever.. Cause I drink alot of water every day eat pretty good and I walk. When does the whole acne during puberty usually back off? And what routine would be good to try? I'm at my wits end :(

Cool, those sound like good tips. Thanks, Kimkhuu. :flower:

woo hoo! Congratulations on your success. think i'll try some of these tips.

Good stuff! I'm definitly going to give some of these tips a shot. The pink dove soap really works that well? It seems like I've tried everything!

I think going back on birth control pills will really help alot. I just haven't gotten around to scheduling an appointment, with work and all!

When I had some acne, I remember my doctor telling me to use Dove bar soap. It's good because it doesn't suck all the oil out of your skin and completely dry it out.

I'm a huge believer in benzoyl peroxide. Acne.org has the regimin I'm using and my moderate acne is almost completely gone! :woot:
