The Acne Thread

^I've posted about SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Gel before because I think it helps. It uses natural alternatives to hydroquinone like cucumber and thyme to calm irritation and something else (I'd have to look it up) to target discoloration. My aesthetician recommended it as a spot treatment, also.

On another note, I'm going to throw away my Murad Post-Acne Spot Lightening Gel because it does contain hydroquinone (and also because it's not very effective). Doesn't seem worth the risk.

and that helps with blackheads?

i've used murad before. it made me BREAK OUT instead of keeping my skin clear.

I apologize---that post was in response to the question asked by emailme in the post above yours. Oops.

I've just begun using SkinCeuticals' (I'm a big fan of theirs now) Clarifying Clay Mask and it's fantastic for several things, including blackheads.

what are the alternatives for hydroquinone if we want to get rid of discolouration acne scars and marks?

...other than microdermabrasion and glycolic peels...

Alpha hydroxy (glycolic acid) and beta hydroxy (salicylic acid) products. I think laser and light treatments can also fade hyper-pigmentation scars.

i dont know...i think ill stick with hydroquinone.

i tried to comprehend the article posted here about its danger but i couldnt really understand it. What i did understand was that the person in that certain case was that they used a huge amount and im using it like a moisturizer.

^ To me it seems it is only extremely dangerous for certain individuals and only dangerous for others if they are using very large amounts or have a product containing more than 2% hydroxyquinone/hydroquinone (not all of this is in the article, but came from a doctor's book). It can cause severe skin irritation and has also been linked to cancer, which is why in many countries it has been banned.

I have been curious myself about trying something containing this, but I don't think a more even skin tone is worth the risk of cancer, burning my skin or damaging it some other way. I only thought perhaps this information would help some people make up their minds and make others think twice about using the product until it has been tested further and a safer concentration and dosage is found (if any). :flower:

yeah butafter a week of using it day and night my skin has become more even and glowing. I still do have scars dont get me wrong but theres a noticeable improvement.

I bought the Amlactin 12% at Costco today. I used it all over my back, forearms, thighs, and feet after I showered. I'll update on whether it works or not. It seems nice so far; makes my skin feel smooth and moisturized. There is a very faint unpleasant scent, but it's not too bad. I also applied it to my face after putting on glycolic-lactic acid toner because my skin there feels dry (regular moisturizer isn't doing the trick), but I'm not really expecting anything wonderful to happen to my face.

cath85, i went to whole foods market and bought that clay tonight. it works like a charm! amazing! thank you so much! :flower: :heart::heart::heart::heart: karma for you, lady!

question... what's amlactin 12% for? is it a cream? how does it work?

im not sure if this has been discussed before, but has anyone tried cutting out dairy? i was just wondering if anyone had good results from doing it..

ooh...im willing to try the bentonite clay. Is it available in per se walmart, shoppers drugmart, or sallys beauty shop. Maybe the grocery store or a herbal store of some sort in Canada?

As fori ts effects, what exactly will it do? Will it suck the oil out of pimples immediately? Also would it make the skin less discoloured and more glowing? How about downsides like dryness and making the clay itself?

I tried it... but I only lasted for about a week! :p I can't live without cheese, milk or yogurt! I have to say I didn't really notice any difference concerning my skin but I guess I would have to have done it in a longer time.

And I forgot to mention, if anyone is interested in Murad, I bought some face scrub last summer and it never helped at all.
