The Acne Thread

I just tried an Asprin mask for the first time.
I used 8 Asprin and mixed it with Cetaphil Cleanser (for Oily Skin).
It made a sort of frothy paste, which I left on my skin for about 20 minutes, and the results are fantastic!
I always have trouble with Blackheads on my nose, but they're almost completely gone now.
My skin feels much smoother, and the redness from the few spots on my face has decreased dramatically!
I'm gonna do these on a regular basis from now on!

^
great idea to mix it with cleanser!
I made my aspirin mask with water only, but I'll try it with cleanser next time I make it :)

thank you so much for that idea with cleanser. i will try it on later tonight. brilliant idea! i hope it will help me somehow, although hope abandoned me years ago. ;>

I'm going to try this too, my skin is blotchy and I have a date tomorrow. Gutting

So... I recently developed skin problems despite the fact that I was only a couple months away from turning 20. It came as a shock to everyone around me too since I always had pretty clear skin. i was wondering if anyone else had had that problem (developing acne post teens) and what was helpful. I use proactive and it helps to a certain point, but my forehead is usually always red even when there are no real pimples... I'm just at a loss

Well,I'm to be 21 next year and only went to my doctors for the first time just after my 20th birthday cos my skin was at it's worse.

Unfortunatly, the past 2 weeks have been horrific. Just my chin. I have no spots or anything on any other part of my face, which to me suggests that the anti-biotics are having some effect again, but my chin has now almost a series of blisters. Its painful to talk/smile/eat blah blah. I had flu a few weeks back and put it down to being ill but it is just getting worse and worse as each day goes by :( My Mom is hoping to get me an emergency appointment at her doctors tommorow as she's really concerned :( Prayer for me people!

So I have a really bad almost cyst like double really painful mess on my chin (its been there for a week and its so, so red!) so I called my dermatologist and they got me an appointment for tomorrow morning. They said they would give me some sort of shot right into the cyst and then a topical cream to put on it for a week. Does anyone know what the shot is? Is it super painful? Does it work really well? Right now I'm more concerned about how red it is and want that part to really calm down. :(

I never heard about anything shot-like! and I never got an appointment as quickly lol tell us what it was all about once you're back ;)

KaraDanielle-it sounds l ike we have the same thing. The advice I got from my doctor this morning was to pierce the spot/blisters on my chin with a clean needle and to treat it for many days after. He didn't do anything,or prescribe me something, and I'm not sure how I feel about doing this myself :-/

Yep it was a hydrocortisone with a slight numbing agent shot in four places! Considering pimples (even large ones) are pretty small areas of skin I was a little freaked out by how large the needle was! She injected it right into the sides of the pimples. The shots did hurt A LOT more than I expected but no pain no gain right???? The pimples are still there (and they of course bled a bit after she was done) but the redness has reduced SIGNIFICANTLY in the six or so hours since. Also they no longer hurt which is the best part because the pain when I moved my chin was really annoying. I got a hydrocortisone cream from aveeno to dab on them for a few days (she also said that if you get bad pimples and cant get in for the shot that using the cream a few times a day on the spot will help it heal and reduce redness much more quickly than most anything else!) tonight I'm supposed to lie with a cold compress on them for 20 minutes. She said they should be totally gone by thursday. We shall see! The only draw back is that she said that sometimes the shots can cause an indentation in your skin where the injection was. That doesn't seemed to have happened to me but you should be aware of that risk before you ask for the shot.

Dumbfairy---I don't know how I feel about you draining your blisters on your own. What if they get infected? I think you should get a second opinion from another doctor if you can! This guy doesn't sound very good!!!

it sounds scary, but I'm a wuss so... :o I hope it will be gone by Thursday as she says, at least that way the pain was worth it!

I'm still on tetralysal but my mum's decided to by me some evening primrose capsals as well on recomendation of a friend at work. Apperently it helps skin via hormones or something! Anyway I took one today so I'll let you know how it goes!

ive been in this thread a few times but never really posted. i dont really know why i wrote this...i guess its not so much for me to get feedback but maybe this can help someone :) this ended up in timeline format since i hate writing and reading big paragraphs.

* i had bad skin when i was 15, tried a lot of different products that would work temporarily then stop working. acne prone & oily

* refused to take pills or use perscription strength acne creams/gels because of the side effects like depression, redness, peeling, sun sensitivity and some other horrible things that i cant remember because i stopped reading i was like oh hale no!

* finally around 15/16? i said NO MORE and completely stopped using any products, no cleansers, spot treatments, moisturizers, toners, etc NOTHING(keep in mind i never wore a drop makeup whatsoever in high school)

* age 16 my skin starts to clear up fast and by age 17 voila! my skin cleared up. i think its both a combination of maturing and getting out of puberty and maybe my skin was sensitive to even the most gentle products

* had pretty good skin since then. it wasnt oily anymore and wasnt dry either just normal. only used moisturizer when it was needed which was rarely and only used a gentle cleanser at night for removing skin makeup if i wore it, daytime i use just water. i do break out sometimes during 'time of the month' but some months i get lucky and no spots :)

* then in June 08 i got the worst sunburn of my life, my skin took a very long time to heal and it got very dry as it healed. had to be slathered in aloe vera lotions 24/7

* during the summer my skin got really bad again after that sunburn, breaking out like crazy and oily! i felt like i was 15 again :(

* starting in the fall my skin returned back to normal. not too dry or oily, break out sometimes during 'time of the month'...i dont think that can be helped!

so basically my motto for my self is to not get too much sun because i burn FAST and my skin apparently hates it, not use products when its not really necessary and to be gentle.
** also i hate full face makeup! i worry about it clogging pores even if it claims to be 'noncomeogenic', i just prefer to spot conceal where i need and everything else that isnt a problem to just let it breathe!

My skin is awful at the moment, Zineryt is doing nothing. I think I'm using too many products so I'm cutting down.

Ugh why on Christmas?

Lol, too many. You won't believe how many products I used to use for my acne. I used everything. It is either that I used it wrong, or there was false advertising going on. My skin is better now, and I did not have to use any products for it. Just keep your skin clean and if you have snacks, take it lightly and try to avoid the temptation of eating a lot of fatty foods. Also wash your face thoroughly(I hope I spelt that right) with water and keep it moisturised. If you do it for a period of time, you will notice the effects, not just in the skin, but you will feel a lot better when it comes to your body.

I didn't do anything to my chin. This guy isn't my usual doctor and I think he was just desperate to tell me anything. So far,my skin is getting slightly better by itself. The swelling is going down and the pain has subsided slightly. I still look horrific though.

Kissablekae-how is your skin now?

I find myself craving a clean face all the time. As soon as I get in the house my make up comes off. I even carry cleansing wipes in my bag for when I'm on journeys so I can feel clean.

Has anyone ever found any 'over the counter' products that work?

I think Oxy products did my skin some good. I'm going to try their new range for guys. And soley stick to that. We'll see.

well i just ended my 'ragdoll' time of the month. sorry if thats too much info but im sure we can all be adults here. so i have a few spots, it was pretty red yesterday but today it has died down loads. its more pink so i could actually tone it down with makeup, yesterday it was hopeless! i had to work yesterday and i kept saying my coworker who im very close with(so i can joke about this kind of stuff with her) "dont look at me" the way Christina Aguilera sings in the beginning her song "Beautiful" while covering my face with my hair or covering my face just with one hand like Lady Gaga. it was hilarious! but other than that i think my skin is back to normal, not oily or dry. its not really ever prone to oilyness unless i put an oily product on it, which i dont because im scared it of clogging my pores. it can get dry if i over cleanse like when i have to redo my makeup. i seriously dont know how models can stand fashion week, its so brutal on skin!

BUT i hate that i scar very very easily. both brown scars and the evil pink kind! i got it from my mom  so in that sense you can say my skin is semi-sensitive. honestly if its a small pimple im like psshh whatever i dont touch it or do anything special, itll die by the next day but sometimes there will be a tiny brown scar and that can irk me...and with those i just wait it out.

i read in Elle magazine that Napoleon Perdis(of Napoleon Cosmetics) recommends Shiseido White Lucent Moisturizer to help fade scars. i wanted to try it but seriously my face is already slightly lighter than my body!(i might have to start using bronzer again) so i dont want the color difference to get worse, i might try to just use it only on spots since i dont really use moisturizers on a regular basis.

when i first started wearing makeup regularly after high school, i used to come home from college and take off my makeup too!

just for basic cleansing i use Clear & Clean Morning Burst gel. a few years ago my friend suggested it for something gentle. i really liked it but i always use sparingly when i do to remove makeup. just concentrate on areas that i need to remove makeup from.

ive never liked spot treatment stuff like acne gels. i feel like they just dry out the area and make it more irritated, dry, and red. then its just harder to cover up with makeup! i just ride it out.

i also just bought some aspirin so i might try a mask tonight!

i had the same problem. my acne started just before my 20th birthday.. and stayed. i have no idea what to do anymore. i tried everything. roaccutane included.

i just try to do my best. clear my skin, use the best cosmetics and a lot of foundation. when i use foundation its almost invisible.

my dermatologist said that its the matter of hormones. i am a bit late when it comes to hormones so that is why my teen acne is late too.
