The Acne Thread

Gah have just started marvelon in the hope that it might make my skin better but so far nope (didn't really expect much in one week) but also feeling very depressed and tearful....anyone? Should I stick with it or what?
Also beginning to think the pill might have caused my acne??
HELP please i'm pretty desperate her :(

My doctor told me that I should wait at least 2-3 months before I can actually see the effect it has on my skin. Also, it's quite usual that your skin becomes worse at first, as it takes time for our body to get used with daily hormone intake.
My skin was awful for the first two months, after that it started to heal. I've taken birth control pills for 4 months, and my skin is finally clear.

Depression is often the side-effect of taking pills. It didn't happen to me, though. You should definitely talk to your G.P. and maybe change the pills you're taking.

Thank you starcrazy, i'll stick with it for a while then and see what happens...hopefully the depression and the skin will get better :)

I'm actually using Nixoderm. Stinky awkward stuff. But I do believe it's working!!!

I've never heard of nixoderm either

I was on a coach for over 12 hours yesterday and my skin at the end of it was horrible. A mixture between bright red and almost yellow and really tight,so it goes to show that lots of water and lots of sleep do help I guess ^_^

Im going to start steaming my face over a bowl of very hot water twice a week again before using a face mask cos I've heard that makes a difference.

Does anyone use pore strips for blackheads? Cos I usually use theh cheaper brands but I'm wondering if the more expensive ones are better?

Nixoderm cream is very good for any serious skin problem e.g Pimples, Eczema, Blemishes, Rash, Athlete's Foot, Ringworm, Peeling, scaling skin due to external irritation, ringworm and cold sores. Nixoderm is for external use only.
Cheap and effective. And by effective I mean very fast, overnight difference is clearly visible. My acne and pimples literally flatten the next day if I use it as a mask overnight. Good results too if I use it lightly in the day,
The best spot treatment ever. I call it the "pimple eraser" because literally my pimples had disappeared by the next morning. Made my face feel much smoother and softer. Try it. You can not lose!
Active ingredient:
"Benzoic acid - 6%
Titanium Dioxide - 10%
Salicylic acid - 2.5%
Menthol - 1.1%
precipitated Sulphur - 4.6%
How to apply:
Apply a thin layer on the problem area overnight, if you have a sensitive skin, then mix it with some vaseline before applying as it may sting a little.Wash it off in the morning and you will instantly see a visible difference.
This small tin last for about six months depending on usage."

not trying to be pushy but where do you get this specifically? can i find it in walmart and what aisle? i hate it when employees look at me like im asking for a nuclear bomb...

lol ^and do you know where I can get it in australia hehe jokes but i'll ask around and see if they have one like that

Hmm well I googled Nixoderm and the only results I really got to buy it was ebay

Man, I'm kind of peeved. My skin was being all awesome and clear and then it broke out a little around my mouth/chin area. They're not bad breakouts, but it's still annoying to have a period of glorious skin and then breakouts. I thought it might be because I'm purging since I just started using Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid (GREAT product by the way... I've already noticed a big difference in my skin in such a short period of time; my skin is softer, my complexion is more glow-y and even-toned, and you can tell the BHA totally swept out the gunk in my pores :woot:) for over a week now and a lot of people report purging with that, but I also got my period today so yeah. Maybe it's just hormonal.

Just curious, how many people here have irregular periods? *raises hand* I hadn't had mine since Thanksgiving time and now I finally have it, almost two months later. I want to regularize it, but the only way I can think to do that is to go on the pill, and I don't want to take that kind of risk. Another option I learned about today is taking chasteberry to regulate the hormones... Has anyone ever ever tried that? I think if I could regulate my periods/hormones then maybe those hormonal breakouts could go away or be reduced.

My periods are all over the place too, last year was the worst, sometimes I would go a few months without one,and then have two in one month. 95% of my spots are on my chin. But like you I am very reluctant to go on any form of pill. Evening primrose oil is also supposed to be a good vitamin for hormones and other premenstrual syndrome symptoms and stuff. I've been taking one a day for about a week, but on the box it doesnt specify how many to take,so I don't know if I should take 2 a day? I just read up on chasteberry,I think I might give it a go for a while and see how it goes. (I read that: "Spots on the chin frequently appear around the time of a womans period and are an indication of hormonal fluctuations and imbalance" so its not just fluctuations like a thought. Maybe I should go to the doctors?)

I tried literally everything (I guess) before going on the pill. Even going on a special diet (no sugar, dairy and gluten) did nothing for me.

Nixoderm contains sulfur, which has been used for blemishes and pimples for a very long time. It really helps as a on-the-spot treatment. I also suggest Origins' 10 minute Out of Trouble mask. It works wonders. As I'm mostly left with acne scars, it has made my complexion more even. Check it out here.

Chasteberry (also known as Vitex) took away all my PMS symptoms (cramps, pain), and my period didn't annoy me as much as it did before. Oh, and it takes some time before you can feel the changes - sometimes even a year. It cleared up 80% of my acne, the rest remained. When I stopped taking Vitex and three months had passed, it all went pear shaped again.

Dumbfairy, irregular periods and acne are often caused by PCOS. Lower chin acne is in most cases really connected to women's problems, doesn't matter whether it's this time of a month, or not. Maybe you should try to get an appointment with an endocrinologist, who deals with hormones, or visit a gynaecologist just for a regular check-up.

I bought it from eBay, for some reason it seems to be the only place you can obtain it. It's been around for decades, it's just not full of fancy plant extracts or perfume. I thought my skin was breaking out from it yesterday, but a friend complimented it so I dunno. Used it again today, a bugger to get off but I still think it's worth it. Also stains clothing.
I want someone else to try it and see what they think.

Starcrazy-Thank you,I just read up on it and I'm going to be getting to my doctors cos i had an awful lot of those sympytoms :-/

Having said that, today my skin is pretty good ^_^

Daniel-I'm going to buy myself some today :)

Sorry if this had been asked before, but what do you guys do to get rid of acne scars. I have it both on my cheeks

Has anyone tried Dianette, its the pill also? I tried it for about a year, it was ok but the minute i came back off it all the spots came back, ugh, its all really frustrating and upsetting but this thread has actually made me feel great, its hard to feel happy about your skin when the world seems full of people with flawless skin, argh! Anyway, rant over, that was theraputic though!
