The Acne Thread

On saturday night I found out what makes my skin go nuts...
TOO much alcohol + TOO many smokes + VERY little sleep = 3 massive pimples on my face on Sunday morning...
Honestly I am embarrassed to go anywhere at the moment...
and I have finally decided to quit smoking because it is destroying my skin (as well as my health!!!)

how much and how badly does the lack of sleep affect your skin?

Usually I have a week where I dont sleep very well, and my skin totally suffers because of it. Then the next week I will sleep around 10 or 11 hours a night and my skin will glow and get so much better. So they don't call it beauty sleep for nothing! :flower:

^ I only got like hour of sleep the other night and I'm still regretting that mistake!

On a better note, I'm giving up on my beloved Mountain Dew for water!

I'm sick of having dry skin and random breakouts...hopefully I can make this
only drinking water thing work so I can have healthier, clear...ier skin! B)

Yes, I used to work for a dermatologist and it did work for a lot of people. I would not use that ultra calming cleanser anymore and switch to the dermal clay one. Its amazing for acne skin. Are you oily? I am an Esthetician and specialize in acne...I know every skin care line and will help you choose the right products for your skin. It gets worse sometimes before it gets better but its crucial you get extractions when acne starts coming up. You need to get rid of the bacteria in the skin in order to get rid of the acne. If anyone has any questions please ask away;) this is my specialty!

hiii Milfbtsingle :flower: im 21 and i have never in my life experienced such bad skin ! iv had immaculate skin growing up til now... iv been having chemical peels every 2-3 weeks ( very mild ones ) and iv been using a brand the dermatologist recommended, i dont see any improovment in my skin tho. iv been using "dermaquest" im still getting break outs which leave marks/blemishes everywhere! i cnt go out without foundation. do u suggest anything that will do good ?

seriously, you should all ask your dermatologists if Isolaze is for you. I cant recommend the procedure enough.

ahh my right cheek is breaking out and i'm getting nervous. the previous dermatologist i went to said that my cheeks are virtually perfect but now i have two pimples on my right cheek. i was just staying in a hotel for a few nights so my mom said that the detergent they used on the pillow cases might be the cause of this. but still i'm worried that this isn't the last breakout i will have on my cheeks.

it's usually just my chin and my forehead that break out and they both look horrible right now so that's enough to deal with!

I went to Sephora the other day and asked a salesperson to recommend the best product for fading acne scars...and he said Caudalie "Vinoperfect radiance serum"- http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P94421&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=4171

Has anyone tried this? It doesn't even say in the description that it's ideal for acne, but he said that it's the same kind of product to treat acne and other marks like age spots. So Im just looking for some other people's opinion on this! Thanks!

Generally I don't have any problems with my skin, but I got under-the-skin pimple on my forehead. It's the most annoying thing in the world and and it's hurting when I touch it. It's strange, cause I had it few times before and it's always in the same place and stays for even 3 weeks sometimes  Some people were asking about it before, so maybe this time advice will be the best? :flower:

I go to a traditional chinese doctor and when my face started breaking out she asked me what time I usually get up in the morning. I thought that was weird but when I mentioned that I was sleeping in a lot, she said that you should always be up no later than 9 or else it affects your body's schedule. (She said that your body does certain functions first thing in the morning and if you sleep in your body doesn't do them?) Since she told me that, I've been getting up early in the morning, even when I don't have to work and my skin is already clearing up! :D
I thought I'd share that cool piece of info with everyone, it might help somebody else out too.

I also switched to The Body Shop's Vitamin c facial polish cleanser which I think is making a huge difference too

I do sleep in a lot these days too, but my skin is rather better than worse than before. during the times I had to get up at 6am I used to get horrible breakouts. and I still get them nowadays when I have to get up early once... it would surprise me if that was true for everyone

That IS interesting. The sleeping thing. I always sleep in. I love it. Hmmm. This could be a good way of getting me up early.

Yeah I don't think it applies for everyone. Because all of my friends sleep in until 12 or 1, and they have great skin...go figure!

Well there is always exceptions considering everyone is different etc, I didn't mean it as a rule that everyone needs to follow, I was merely sharing some info that has helped me. More food for thought in a sense.
And I agree with Daniel, anything that motivates me to not hit the snooze button can never be a bad thing :P

I used to suffer from under-the-skin cystic acne on my chin and the only product that really made any difference was Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion. It's a really thin, alcohol-y lotion that seems like it does nothing but when I was using it, I went from having 3 of these pimples a month, to maybe one or none. It seems to clear up the pimples a lot faster (although it's not a miracle, these pimples are difficult to deal with) but it did seriously help prevent them. It's very drying, so follow the instructions, but once I realised my chin was oily enough for OPEC, I would put it on almost daily for prevention. It is expensive for the tiny amount you get, but to me it was worth it because they are sooo painful and you can't even see them :yuk: I checked and the hqhair.com site will ship to Poland :flower:
