The Acne Thread

i've heard a lot of mixed things from people about Clinique 3-Step program.. i've heard that it can totally ruin someones skin while for others, it clears up everything wonderfully. i just caution everyone!! ask for some samples at the counter before buying the whole thing!

What's the best cleanser that you guys use? I've been using Clearasil Daily Wash for a couple of years and I want to try something new. Has anyone tried Oxy Daily Wash?

I think when talking about skincare products we should also take into account the skin colour of the people whom the product has worked for. I purchased a book written by a group of doctors and it is all about how non-white people's skin is slightly different (and therefore more sensitive) to white people's skin and they write about products that can help non-whites and solve non-white-specific problems. This is because many Western products (which the majority are made for white people) that would work on white skin actually make non-white skin worse! I have not been able to try any Asian products (I'm half Asian and it seems many products do nothing for me) yet, but when I am in Toronto I will (for things other than spots, since the spearmint is working great and I only have one today!).

what book is this? i think id very much like to read it, as im a latina...

I've always used Clearasil Daily wash too ever since I can remember. I think it's good because it's so gentle and exfoliates really gently too. I tend to have two different ones though as sometimes I like a wash that gives a more thorough deep clean...like Clean and Clear Morning Burst. I'm a bit dubious though about some deep cleaning washes as I've heard that some cleansers add menthol so you get that the illusion of a nice 'tingly' feeling after using it.

^ Ah, thanks. I once used Clean and Clear Acne Wash or something and it really dried out my skin, made it itchy.

When I was younger I tried all sorts. The clinique stuff just gave me really dry skin. Now I use Dermalogica and that works. It may also be to with getting older but I only get a few now.

accutane for acne I think Im going to try it

Im 22 years old and have had acne problems FOREVER especially getting off of the pill... Its been a constant struggle... Always on my chin. Ive tried everything from retin a to retin a micro... ive done it all... And now i am thinking of doing Accutane. ive recently been on Retin a for 6 months and nothing but dry skin reddness and acne still! So I am thinking of asking my Derm for this stuff July 12th... any advice would be golden... Even what I am to expect being on this a low amount of it.. thanks
AMY

what do you guys think of pro active?
i've finally resulted to using it.. and it's okay.. i just hope it works >< i've heard that once u stop using it, it all comes backk. but in the meantime, i sure hope it works! althoguh i find the cleanser a little too exfoliating for every day use.. i use it threee times a day... along with the other 2 steps. T_T maybe the time in the afternoon i'll just use my old cleanser..

anyways, what are youuur thoughts about it ? =] feed back pleasee!

Oh, and i just finished a 2 month period of minoxycline.. this time, it didn' work well like last time =(((( i was pretty disapointed.
Clindoxyl gel, however, is pretty impressive =]]

i started with spectro..and it cleared up my skin.. now its coming back... what should i do>?

purdles, I wish you all the best :lucky: I know how terrible bad or in your case imperfect skin can make you feel :(
Aww thanks, that's really sweet :flower:

so is it true that Asians tend to have hyperpigmentation? I'm Asian myself, and compared to my Canadian friend, my scars heal much more slower than hers. Her skin is completely perfect now, and her acne was worse than mine

Geez me too, it's not only the acne scars on my face but also my legs, I have TONS of brown spots from years ago when I hurt them; they're really terribly uneven and blotchy.

Im 22 years old and have acne on my chin mostly.. Ive had it forever. I went on Retin A micro for 6 months now and all that gets me is red and dry and more pimples!!! I am thinking of getting on Acutane.. what do you think?? I hear it clears the skin up really nicely and you will never break out again after you do it!!! my friends skin is AMAZING now that she did acutane.. I have an apt wih the dermo July 12th... wish it was sooooonerrrr i would sell my soul to have clear nice skin like i had when i was on the pill

its NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!! My mother recently was diagnosed with breast cancer from the BIRTH CONTROL PILL! let me explain.. My mother was diagnosed and they ended up cutting off her left breast they tested it and it was estrogen driven which is what is in the pill... She went on the pill in a late age because her dumb doctor told her it would ease her into menapause what a load of CRAP@ she then slowly discovered it was because of the pill why she got breast cancer. I stopped the pill right away and yes it did clear my skin up but would rather have pimples then breast cancer.. Later on my mother gets these breast cancer awarness magazines every month and now their is new research saying that the pill does cause breast cancer!!!!!!!!!!! stay away trust me. all of my friends are going off of it and all of my family members! ITS NOT HEALTHY!!!!!!!!!!!!her breast cancer was caused by the estrogen that is in the pill... if that makes sense... read up on it

that is why and i wrote that on the birth control forum here on the fashion spot... i feel very strongly about this...

I used proactive for like 2 years, and personally I think it's definitely not worth it. It irritated my skin and made it so dry, and as a result I think that just made my face produce even more oil. Now that I've stopped it and just used cetaphil, my skin has cleared up sooo much more.
Of course, everyone's result can vary, so I guess maybe you should try it and see? it does work for some!
all the best! :flower:

pro activ is HORRIBLE i tried it and it worked wonders for the 1st 6 months and then after that my skin started breaking out worse then ever! its a quick fix and that is it. read all the reviews on makeuopalley.com TRY DUAC it works really well ask your derm for DUAC i think i might try that
