The Acne Thread

I tanned several times (with sun tan lotion) and none of my hyper-pigmentation marks have become darker. While I was tanned they were less noticeable. Some have faded away with time, others have stayed the same. Though really I would recommend trying to get rid of the marks another way instead of hiding them by tanning all the time.

exactly, i second that. i have a small scar on my back due to a back surgery and when i have a tan, it fades a bit, it never grows darker or lighter than my tanned color.

thank youu for all the responses :flower: i am looking into different peels right now but it's just getting so annoying having to use makeup to cover up my hyperpigmentation. so in the mean time would it be okay to use a fake tan?

wouldn't a fake tan make the hyper-pigmentation more obvious, though?

^ yes. :( it will make them not look as apparent, but underneath all that... i think it's probably almost like applying foundation on a pimple. it will cover it up, but it won't heal it, only clog your skin. the sun, on the other hand will dry up your pimple, but not heal it.

There are many myths as to what helps clear up pimples. Tanning is one thing that people think helps clear up acne, however this is untrue. People believe this because they think that tanning dries up the oils that cause pimples. Even though a tan may temporarily cover the redness of acne, there's no evidence that having tanned skin helps to clear up acne. People who tan in the sun or in tanning booths or beds run the risk of developing dry, irritated, or even burned skin. They're also at increased risk of premature aging and developing skin cancer. Tanning should not be used as an acne treatment.

A tan is essentially a scar. It's your skin's protective reaction to sun exposure.. never a good idea.

If you must, definitely opt for fake tanning. Spray tanning (the kind in a booth) can look quite real if you don't try to layer too much.

Also, could someone review La Roche Posay sunblock? Is it hyped for any reason other than it provides the most sun protection? Is it oily or anything like that? Thanks!

Omg!:cry:I have this on my left cheek. I have never had something like that. What do to?? Should I just leave it?

That looks really sore, Isa. Don't go too berserk with cleansing you'll just hurt the skin. Try gently pressing a cotton wool pad soaked in witchhazel on it for a few minutes. It'll cool the area down. I wouldn't squeeze anything as I can actually see a line of infection going from spot to spot at the bottom, have you tried antibiotics?
