The Acne Thread

The cysts have now broken into a million hard whiteheads. But I guess it's better than it was. My neck, just under my chin is still slightly swollen though and I've still had no luck on getting a doctors appointment I can make,so by the time I go I reckon it would have gone down :(

do supplements ( like vitamin A) help skin? i was at Planet Beauty a while ago and they had thse MURAD supplements, the lady said they help to stop acne from the inside

No it won't work!
Vit A can help with skintone, texture & refining pores though :)

Yeah but in order to see results from supplements and/or vitamins, you have to overdose, which of course is not exactly something to encourage. Taking the recommended amount is not enough to show any difference.

I prefer to just eat my way to vitamins anyway. I find my skin always looks better if I have been cooking from scratch and eating all my fruit and veg etc. I keep getting just a few huge spots rather than lots of small ones. Is there any reason for this? Does anything cause this to happen more? I am even thinking about going to the dr about, ehich I hate doing.

Right now I just have lots of everything :( And I've taken the decision that when I see the doctor next week I'll ask to go on the pill, which I'm not overly keen on but it's the last resort

^ That's a good idea. It was my last resort too...I definitely wasn't too excited about it, because I feel like if I don't grow out of this, my skin will go crazy once I stop them...hopefully that won't happen...

I get really big ones not smalls ones most the time and they are really painful :(
Oh I know! And you can feel them constantly. Ouch. I had one that popped the other day but sort of bled under my skin. So it looked like it was bleeding but I couldn't wipe it away. It was awful.

You just have to be very careful if you pop one too soon and it pops underneath the skin it can spread and cause more

^ To get rid of discoloration? No that wouldn't be enough. Sun protection, on the other hand, would definitely prevent it from worsening.

Things that help with discoloration include peels, glycolic, kojic, and madelic acid. Stay away from hydroquinone.

what about mederma? its like a scar creme and it said on the back that it can be used for acne scars.

It may work for you, it may not. There's really no straight answer until you try it.

Thanks for the article Adorefaith,I've heard about lemon juice being good before.

Still hoping to get a doctors appointment next week to get my skin sorted ^_^

Everyone's talking about the lemon juice thing in the 'model tips' thread.

Just use caution with it. It's very harsh and not everyone's skin will take well to it. Dilute it, and do a test patch first!

Hey everyone,

I too suffer from a somewhat mild - medium case of acne. Ever since late 8th grade, i've suffered from breakouts on my nose. The weirdest thing is that ever since then my nose is my problem spot. Now, at 19 i still get breakouts on my nose and really havent found a solution for it. Today, i decided to "bite the bullet" and call the doctor to arrange an appointment for a dermatologist. I've noticed by reading through this thread that a lot of people who went to dermatologists was able to get something that worked for them. Hopefully, in my case, it will be true for me.

Question: How long does it take for the pills prescribed by the dermatologist to work? Should i not get my hopes up that i will find some kind of relief after going to the doctor?
