The Acne Thread

Sighhh. I'm in agony once again. My chin/top of neck is swollen again. It's still the same side of my chin, only now there has to be a series of about 20+ hard pimples all in the same area and it hurts a lot :( I managed to get a doctors appointment, but the only one they had free in the next 3 weeks is next Monday so I'm going to have to wait it out.

I run out of anti-biotics on Thursday,it's going to be an interesting next few days, but for now,I'm too embarassed to leave the house :(

They're putting me on THE PILL
Any last words of advice from you experts out there?

expect to see a "change" in you body. then acne will slowly go away. but this is not from personal experience so im not quite sure

No words of advice unfortunatly, only that it could be a really good thing for you. I'm going to ask to go on it next week as I feel like I have exhausted all my other options. Big hugs :flower:

I don´t know if this is the oldest news ever, guys, but have you visited
http://www.highonhealth.org/

It has really helped me a lot. The basic videos are quite helpful.

I just found that site randomly through google. They address some interesting topics.

How long does it take for the pills prescribed by the dermatologist to work? Should i not get my hopes up that i will find some kind of relief after going to the doctor?

It will depend on what drug the derm prescribes you. If this is your first time visiting a doctor for your acne problem, the derm will probably give you topical treatments rather than pills. Pills will have more side effects, so usually they should be used only if topical treatments don't work. The only pill form acne medication I've used is an antibiotic. For me, I started seeing results in two weeks, but it was over a month before my skin really cleared up. Anyway, I hope your visit helps with your acne!

Thanks Rollagasper...

I went to the doctor yesterday (Thought i was going to the dermatologist but i have to get a referal from the docter first) and i sat down and talked to him and after a few minutes he perscribed a gel to apply to my face twice a day and some anti biotics Doxycycline Hyclate to take once a day until my appointment with the dermatologist comes. Hopefully this works, i started using the gel lastnight and took my first pill this morning! Cross my fingers!

My face is better as I may have...um...sorted them out myself. They were so bad I had no other option but to try and get rid of them, which I know is naughty but I think we've all been guilty of.

How is everybody doing??

I just went back to my doctor because I didn't think I should be taking antibiotics for a prolonged period of time. She suggested either going on the pill or trying some other topical solutions. I don't think my acne's bad enough to justify the side effects that I might experience from the pill, so she prescribed me Clindamyacin in Neostrata gel and Retin-a cream. Anyone used those before and how well did they work?

Retin-a cream seems to be really effective, wish I could be prescribed some it's expensive.

I like the use of lemon juice, I thiiiink it's working. hmm

I went to the dermatologist a few weeks ago and she put me on Differin, Duac, and a pill. She said that it would take 3 months for this to start working. I haven't seen ANYTHING yet. I know she said 3 months but I'm really impatient and I'm worried that I'm going to be doing all this for 3 months and it's not going to work. ugh

I'm not sure if this is the right thread for this question, but I'll ask it anyway. I got a mole on my face removed for a biopsy which turned out negative (thank god) but now two weeks later I have a round pink scar the size of my pinky nail left. I don't know what to use on it to make it fade nicely. Aquaphor? Someone help please!

new to this thread, but i just started acutane, NOTHING worked for me, my dermatologist ive seen for 5 years would never prescribe it apparently my acne "wasent bad enough" but i switched doctors and im now on my second month and my acne is SOOO much better.

for those of you on doryx be careful, if your on an antibiotic like that for too long, it can actually make your acne resistant and even harder to treat. b control pill never worked for me

ooo. i heard acutane was gnarly. but thats great it worked for you.
*werent some of the warnings like "may cause weight loss and depression"?

I had a small mole removed from my cheek and my dermatologist had me use Biodermis Epi-Derm silicone sheets. I used it for about 8 weeks and I am happily scar free :flower:

I did use Aquaphor on it before the stitch came out then changed to the silicone treatment.

Yeah, I know Accutane works wonders for acne for most people, but the side effects scare me. I don't think people should go on it unless they've tried all the other acne treatment options, because depression is one of the possible side effects, along with many other unwanted reactions.

^ Depression, dry skin, and you're supposed to abstain for alcohol, cigarettes, and other drugs for as long as the pill is prescribed to you. My friend was on it for 6 months but she never got any side effects. I think it all depends on the person.

^I took it and it went well for me too. The only side effects I had was dry skin and dry eyes. In the beginning I got a lot of headaches but that was gone in the first month.

The important thing is this: If you have a history of depression, don't take it. If not, take it, and have a close friend watch you. If you start acting strangely it may be a sign to stop.

Accutane is great. It completely cleared me up. It's about 2 years later and my skin is still doing well. I still break out, but it's nothing unmanageable.
