The Acne Thread

Yeah potatoes are poisonous if eaten raw, and I think their leaves are deadly.

My roommate actually swears that thin slices of raw potato on her skin helped it a lot. But her skin was sensitive so it felt like the potatoes were burning her skin.

Ok a brief update on my skin:

About 3 weeks ago I went to the doctor to get a referral to see the dermatologist about my "mild-medium" case of acne. I talked to him and told him what my problem area was (my nose; weird but true lol it's been that way since i was about 13 and im 19 now) and he prescribed some antibiotics (doxycycline hyclate i think is the name, not sure because im at work typing this but will double check once im at home) to take once a day and some gel (also have to check the name when i get home) to apply to my face twice a day. Since then, my problem areas have drastically changed for the better. My routine is Morning:
- Wash face with V 05 shampoo (weird, yea i know lol but works for me)
- Wash face with Neutrogena Men's Invigorating Face Wash
- Then apply the gel
- Then sunscreen
Evenings:
-Take medicine
-Repeat Morning routine(Minus the sunscreen)
-Apply Aloe Vera on my face for over night (i have a plant, so i just use that)

And so far I've seen great results (knock on wood). My advice to anyone would be to see a dermatologist if you can, and to ALWAYS USE SUNSCREEN (Very important) with an SPF of ATLEAST 30. Hope i've been some help ^_^

Shampoo? Shampoo!?!?!!!

Lol yes shampoo! It's oil free, and it really deep cleans my face.

Update from my previous post: The name of the antibiotics im on is DoxyCycline Hyclate and the gel is Clindamycin Phosphate

SHAMPOO??? the one for the hair shampoo??? who/what gave you that idea in the first place??

I tried aloe vera (the plant) on my face before but it kinda stung and leave me in red patches.

I'm going to echo these two when it comes to shampoo?! I hope that nobody on here reads that and tries it.

My chin still has small hard spots under the skin :(

It works for ME, and what may work for me may NOT work for everyone else. I dont expect anyone to mimic my routine, because as we all know EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. My advice to everyone is (LIKE I PREVIOUSLY STATED) to go to a dermatologist if you can, or even your regular doctor and they might be able to help you.

how many times a week should you do an aspririn mask if you have acne on yr back, i want mine to calm down a bit before prom in 2 weeks i did one last saturday and it helped tone it down quite a bit and lasted for about 4 days i just want it to be as least noticable as possible. Any other information on them would be helpful as welll please !

^I don't think an aspirin mask will be very effective for bacne. You should try something stronger like a panoxyl bar soap which contains benzoyl peroxide. You can get it at walgreens. I like it, it's pretty effective.

also wear shirts that breathe like cotton and change often.

DONT POP IT.

^To add to that, always shower immediately after exercising! Sitting around in sweaty clothes afterwards is acne breeding ground!

dalacin t topical solution, prescribed by my doctor, worked an absolute treat for me - i was practically spot-free for the whole of the first term of uni, plus i changed my pill to a more skin-friendly option. however, since the start of this year i've began to experience blemishes again, though not as bad as i used to - not sure whether to go back to the doctors or not but it's probably worth a try?

the shampoo idea is actually qutie good as a lot of people used HEAD AND SHOULDERS for their faces. Personally since I wore makeup it cant cleanse that well but it worked for a lot of people. : )

I've said it once in this thread, but I'll say it again...Greek yoghurt as a mask! Not only does it feel cooling and hydrating on the skin, but the acidophilus helps counter bacteria on the surface of the skin...It has literally cleared up my skin, it now looks glowing and healthy...Of course I still have scarring (that's where make-up comes in handy), but people now ask me what my skin care secret is because they see such a huge difference :) I feel as though my esthetician is a genius!
And I know that many people don't believe that pure water makes a difference to the appearance of the skin, but personally drinking enough water daily has helped a lot.

^ *nods* Definitely worth a try...Just think about it, women for centuries have used milk in order to enhance the look of skin! But greek yoghurt has that added bacteria-fighting agent :)

where do you buy greek yoghurt from? I'm from australia too

Ok Im trying the potato theory.. I literally just rubbed a potato on my skin in the problem areas haha

^ Any supermarket should have it (like Coles of Woolworths)...Near the frozen food section, and the tub itself usually has 'Greek Yoghurt' written on the outside :)
