The Chanel fall collection for eyes this year consists of some beautiful neutrals in the khaki family. I immediately picked up Gri-Gri Ombre Essentielle, a beautiful sparkling taupe. I resisted the Chanel Mystère Les 4 Ombres and the Khaki Précieux Stylo Yeux Waterproof for a week before caving.
. . .
Some close ups of each item. First up, Mystère Quadra Eyeshadow ($59 for 6.8g) is a stunning mix of pale sparkly champagne with gold flecks, soft neutral mauve-taupe, dark blackened-khaki with gold shimmer and a neutral brown satin with green tones.
. . .
Gri-Gri Soft Touch Eyeshadow ($28.50 for 1.6g) is a must-have for any taupe lover. On me it pulls more on the mauve side versus a straight taupe. It's very sparkly.
. . .
Khaki Précieux ($30) is a lovely metallic khaki green. I find it to be both a good liner and a smudgey base for a smokey eye. It's dark enough to define the eyes but the shimmery quality makes it soft. The texture is soft and easy to apply on the eyes, but firm enough so it doesn't smudge.
Chanel Delice (78) Joues Contraste Powder Blush ($43.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a pale, aqua-shimmered white highlighter. In the promo photos, it looked more minty green, and in real life, it looked nearly white except for a very faint hint of green–but at a glance, it looked mostly white. Giorgio Armani Moonlight White #1 is similar. Chanel Lumiere Sculptee de Chanel is less shimmery.
I worried that such a pale color would turn chalky or ashy against my medium skin tone, but it actually worked quite well as a highly reflective, shimmered highlighter, so I was happy to see it will be something that not just very fair complexions can use. The texture was soft, finely-milled, and easy to blend on the skin. In the photo below, I wore it on top of my cheek bones and lightly on my nose and brow bone. It is somewhat buildable, so you can go from a very translucent, almost finishing-like effect to a more obvious shimmer-sheen finish (like I wore on cheeks). A heavier application did emphasize pores slightly that was visible at a close distance but not from afar, while a lighter application gave a soft all-over glow without emphasizing any imperfections.
It lasted well for seven hours, and after eight hours, it looked slightly patchy.
