The City

Quote from an interview with Leighton Meester http://leightonmeester.blogg.se/:

And now she's [Olivia Paslermo] on The City! "I haven't seen that show, but I did ask Cecily [von Ziegesar, the Gossip Girl author] if Blair was based on Olivia, and she said she wrote the books way before Olivia was in New York City, and she basically made Blair up. But people do say I look like Olivia Palermo. And also, that I look like Minka Kelly from Friday Night Lights."

So can we conclude that Cecily did not know Olivia Palermo? I think it's actually the press that made the Olivia Palermo/Blair Waldorf comparisons.

New York is full of Olivia Palermos. She is my favourite in the City. She brings that sophisticated glamour to the show.

I often skip the whitney parts and go to the Olivia parts. Whitney is a sweet girl but I just don't care much for her and her lack of fashions sense isn't helping either. SHe's suppose to be a designer but she seems so clueless to me when it comes to fashion.

Those books were written way before Olivia appeared on the scene, plus the character in the books is SO different to the TV show. I thought TV Blair's wardrobe was based on Olivia and that was all?

i know what you mean. even though its sort of 'whitneys show'.. her parts arent all that interesting anymore.
and i DEF agree with ur comments on her fashion sense.

Olivia wasn't even a blip on the radar when those books were written so how could the character be based on her?

Whitney was boring from day one of this series. Ugh

Agree- Whitney is not a very interesting girl; good looking enough and all but I don't think the elevator goes to the top floors...
And I wonder if the Olivia/Blair thing would have ever been thought up if one of them was blond or buxom...I doubt it- simply a media created story, as far as I can see...

Everyone (in the programme/in general) seems justified in calling Olivia a b*tch but the rest of them are just as bad. Erin, for whatever reason, is bitter and arrogant and Whitney seems constantly self-entitled

ALSO, the Fergie episode highlighted how fake the Elle situation is. Why would a random assistant (the Seth person) and Olivia, whose 'accessories editor' role is clearly rudimentary be at an important meeting? MTV is just creating these contrived filmable situations

erin is a very annoying person. i cant even say shes an annoying 'character' b/c thats who she is i guess?
ugh i havent liked her from day one tbh.
to me shes the city version of audrina!

Duh!!!!! The audience is savvy enough to know that Olivia is NOT an editor at ELLE and the girls really do not work for PR revolution. Unfortunately, Whitney is allowing her clothing line to be involve in the show as a way of garnering free publicity and exposure. It might turn around to bite her in the *** at the end though.

I do think the situations are contrived by MTV but how the characters react to them are spontaneous enough. Thus, no one is telling Olivia to act like a little spoiled brat but it comes off pretty natural for her. Not too keen on Erin either but if I had to hear Olivia (who has no higher education, talent-except for dressing well, motivation, likeability, etc...) constantly refer to herself as an EDITOR, I would be peeved as well but hopefully I would go about it in a different way ...

some of the viewers, maybe, but the comments on places like elle.com would suggest otherwise. Comments like, if Elle doesn't 'fire' Olivia they'll stop buying the magazine and switch to Vogue are among the most ridiculous. People do believe what MTV put out there

^ That's funny!! I would bet that most everyone on the show other than Joe Z and Erin are paid by MTV!!

I can't wait until tonight's episode. Whitney get's critiqued oooh lol.

Last weeks episode was very good. Love Kelly- if only Whit would take her advice as oppose to going against what she says. It's like by now it should be obvious to her that 'Kel Knows Best'.

Why she continues to have Roxy tag along with her is such a silly move on her part. I kinda want to shake Whitney and tell her that Roxy is not her friend. How unprofessional and just all around ridiculous must she act before Whitney gets it through her head?. Ugh! That look she came up with was just all sorts of wrong but more than that, why was it so difficult for Whitney to come up with something on her own in the first place?

Don't get me wrong, I still like Whitney I just don't like the fact that she can't seem to stand on her own two feet. Yet maybe she keeps Roxy at her side to make herself look like the better person because Roxy is such a screwball?. *shrugs*

There is another new show on MTV starting tonight "Downtown Girls"- they say it is very much like "The City"...hummm, to waste or not to waste (a half an hour watching it...)

^^ Just saw the trailer for the show and I honestly do not see the correlation between The City & Downtown Girls aside from the location (NYC). I'll probably tune in just to give it a chance but from what I've seen thus far, I'm not impressed.

^ Yeah, I just watched it...not impressed, either...Kind of too much like Sex and the City (with less attractive girls...) :innocent:

Ouch! Yet I have to agree. Hopefully it ends up that the trailer didn't do the show justice. ;)
