The Etc Etc Of Music

coachella is this awesome summer festival in Indio (California)..I did a thread about it in April, don't know if it still exists but well, it's more of an 'indie' (hate that word) thing..most bands usually fall into that category or just trip-hop, hiphop, emo crap, alternative, britpop..etc.

Bjork, Radiohead, The Cure, Pixies, Sigur Ros, Aphex Twin, Weezer, Oasis, chemical brothers, the strokes, beastie boys, the chilli peppers, they have all played on it in the past 3 years. It lasts for a couple days, in the middle of the desert with some areas where you can camp...it's great, though extreme temperatures (above 112) can turn it into a real nightmare (personal experience: nose bleeding, dehydration, etc) .

yikes...sorry your coachella experience was so horrible.

I went to the first one, which was vcool. Morrissey, Beck, Chemical Brothers and Underworld headlined night one, and Rage Against the Machine and Tool headlined night 2. There's about 3 stages and 5 tents, each tent dedicated to a different type of dance music (techno, house, drum&bass, etc).

I did find this today on gawker.com regarding that lineup:

An anonymous prankster e-mailed us to lay claim to "leaking' the supposed lineup for next year's Coachella Festival on their message boards--a lineup which, in the words of one board poster, reads like a "Pitchfork reader's wishlist." Supposedly among the 2005 bands are David Bowie, Coldplay, REM, Tears for Fears (!), and just about any group anyone who's ever watched The O.C. has heard of. The hoaxer later copped to his cruel, indie ruse, but not before the story found its way off the music blogs and into some mainstream sources. The truly funny thing is that by the time everything is said and done, no one would be surprised if the invented list is at least half correct (right now we hear that the dates of the show aren't even finalized).

yeah, nightmare-ish but in hindsight it was great, I got to see Radiohead and that means the world to me :P

aw, that should've been awesome..I always wanted to see the Chemical Brothers and Rage. This year, Beck did a surprising appearance, he played an acoustic set, it was sweet, he chatted with the crowd around him and played them almost anything they'd request, he was so down to earth and nice, unfortunately, I never got that close to him cause the place was PACKED, and when I say packed, I mean sardine style.

That 'article' is funny, I find it quite ironic when they say 'pitchfork reader's wishlist' and The OC fans cause it looks more to me that Coachella organizers actually base their decisions according to Pitchfork's annual top 10 and what emo kids adore at the moment, the lineup is great but still most of these bands are overrated (Arcade Fire among them as much as I like them).
and if I'm not mistaken, the entire cast of The O.C. was hanging out with the bands backstage at coachella this year..very strange...promotional even :innocent:

Then I'm going to get you a pig... :P

Did you hear that Michael Stipe's most inspirational moment was when he was at a Radiohead concert in New York after the beginning of the war on Iraq... when everyone stood in complete silence for the duration, apart from during that one line in No Surprises: "the government, they don't speak for us", and everyone shouted just that, and then returned to silence.

Him, them, everyone...

I think it was great that Radiohead played No Surprises throughout their American tour..they did that in San Diego and it was awesome, everyone was cheering. I can imagine how it must've felt in New York.
they got a lot of boos when they did it in Texas, btw :innocent:
