The Etc Etc of Perfumes & Fragrances

Thanks, you guys. I was just in shock because it's the scent I was hoping to use until I'm six feet under. Guess I'll go and buy some hectolitres. :innocent:

*Bump* ^_^

I bought Calvin Klein Euphoria Spring Temptation yesterday

I don't like having an abundence of perfumes,I like to find a few that I really love and they become 'my' scents, but yesterday smelling them all in the store I want to expand my collection. I think Flora by Gucci is next, and if it wasn't quite so strong, Infusion de Fleur d'Oranger by Prada cos it's really nice.Is there any way to make it less strong on my skin?

^ you can spray it from a further distance, or apply it to your hair/clothes rather than your neck.

If all fails, just spray some water or some other light scent on top of it, and that should dilute it a bit.

Thank you :flower: I'm not a big lover of orange but I really love the perfume!

I was waiting around in the airport and I went into the L'occitane store. I just randomly sprayed a fragrance on me...Ruban d' Orange Eau de Toillette ... about ten minutes later, this little asian woman was patting my baby on the head and talking to me when I got a whiff of the most lovely aroma, and at first I though it was the woman, but when I walked away I realized it was me! I love this perfume so much - it had a really unique aroma. I don't usually favor orange scents either but this one didn't smell typical. I can't even describe it now because it has been 2 weeks since, but their website describes the scent as this: " In the depths of winter, the mild Mediterranean climate sees orange trees filled with golden fruits – balls of sunshine that light up the streets of Seville. From these bitter oranges come a fragrant ribbon, boasting and array of benefits. L’Occitane Orange Ribbon Eau de Toilette is rich in natural essential oils of citrus fruits from the Mediterranean and revitalizes and comforts with its fresh, sparkling and soft scent." So I guess it smells a little like orange rind?

Also, L'Occitane makes a scent for children called Mom and Baby Water that is so adorable. i think I want to get that one first to share with my little girl.

I was wondering how many older fragrances have been updated to be more modern. Part of the appeal of a perfume that's existed since decades ago, to me, is that it has more history to it that something recent but that's kind of pointless if it doesn't even have the original formulation.

Almost everything has been reformulated for one reason or another, the reasons usually being "modernizing" as you stated, and/or the growing list of banned ingredients. Some, like nitromusks, have clear health dangers, whereas others, like oakmoss and citrus ingredients, might well have been fine with a warning label; but let's not forget the monetary incentives of manufacturers to use synthetics instead of often-costly natural ingredients.

Some reformulations are better than others, though; Chanel Nº 5 is certainly not the same as it used to be, but most people will agree that the reformulation is pretty good. You will probably get less agreement about the current versions of Joy and Mitsouko, and if you want to see a riot, search for reviews of Caron's Tabac Blond... that one didn't go so well. :(

Has anyone tried Amazone by Hermes?

Like awards matters, but it nice to see what others has bought/liked.
The 2009 fragrance awards season ~ the big winners
chloeedp.jpg

The 2009 fragrance awards season is over, and we have a winner: Chloé Eau de Parfum, a perfume that Chandler Burr of The New York Times characterized as “an uninteresting, clichéd floral”. Chloé took a grand total of 5 awards for best fragrance, including a US Fifi Award, a People’s Choice Award from the UK Fifis, and awards from the Canadian Fragrance Awards, the Grand Prix du Parfum (France) and Cosmetic Executive Women UK.

The runner-up: Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Lovers, which took 3 awards for best fragrance.

On the men’s front, Paco Rabanne 1 Million was the “most honored”, taking a total of 3 awards.

There is also list winners in different awards.

I tried Harajuku perfumes, but wasn't too interested in those after that. But I guess i need to finally try Chloe. I loved ads but somehow it really didn't make me try.

After checking those awards and winners, I don't know what would be mine favorite. I have keep chancing my perfume like day after day, I guess the most popular has been Versence. I also bought CK One at first time a while ago and I like it. I wanted it so badly when I was younger but my mom didn't bought me it because it was too expensive and I have some kind of fake Ck ONe. Original is much better..

Does anybody know whether or not YSL Jazz / Live Jazz is still in production? Went to a perfumery today and they said it isn't produced anymore, but for some reason I cannot really believe it... (might be repression though).

:flower:

I work in the Netherlands in Douglas, and we can order YSL Jazz and Live Jazz... So when you go to Sephora I know for sure that they can order!!!

Maybe the can't get it soon for you 'cause YSL is going to Lóreal, but it won't be a problem, I know for sure....

The Chloe is one that I would definitely get. I am a huge fan of it, however I have a list of perfumes I want to get that is 20-odd long, and leading it is a $170 giftset of Escada Sexy Graffiti...:innocent:

not neccesarily true. Chandler Burr once pointed out that some synthetics are extremely pricey (like thousands and thousands of dollars for a pound)

^Daisy is a favourite of mine; it's not so lightweight that it dies off immediately, and it's one that definitely makes an impact. It's one that I would give my mum, because it's so lightweight and everything.

Anyone ever used www.luckyscent.com to purchase anything from? I am thinking more that I would love to work in a perfume store/boutique or in Fragrances at Neiman's...I love to discuss skin care and creams and such but I almost get more excitement over the talk of scents. ^_^

I'm so with you there! No matter how annoying and clueless they can be, I can never bring myself to get upset with a sales assistant because I envy their jobs too much! I am daffy/mad/obsessed with cosmetics and fragrances, it's the only thing I hoard and indulge in; I'm a minimalist besides.

I have indeed used luckyscent they are VERY reliable and have great samples. HOWEVER the SIZE of the samples are .07ml for the price you pay (about $3) you can get a slightly larger 1ml sample from the Perfumed Court, another reliable company. Just so you know...

I also use Beauty Habit occasionaly, mostly for "computer window" shopping, they have dreamy products and samples as well. (LOVE me some samples!)
