The Etc Etc of Perfumes & Fragrances

In London they stock his fragrances I'm sure at Harrods, maybe Harvey Nichols...but as Tangerine said they're definitely unisex, and I agree, targeted towards men.

However the boy at the counter at the store I visited made me 4 samples in individual vials, then put it in a small little black box with Tom Ford in black against a gold surrounding, so perhaps you will come across a nice SA, CryingDiamonds.

Report back which you loved! I'm saving up everything to purchase at least a few of them, they're intoxicating.

^I am too picky but I am curious about the Tom Ford scents... I wouldnt be surprised if I found it... a bit too much... or something... TANG... I've jumped from beginner to perfume snob in the few months that we've talked. :( ... but, honestly still havent found much outside of cdg... so...? maybe a snob in a small world B).

Anyone have opinions on CB 'I hate perfum'?

I've been going to their shop in brooklyn and I love their take on smells and the huge and playful selection of scents... but, the 2 or 3 times I walked out w a sample on my wrist... I was not in love, and hardly 'in like' with it...

I tried "fur coat" which is very unique... one of the most unique scents I've tried on... but it didnt 'mesh' with me... I did enjoy the odd specific smell... but ... it just didnt have that extra * which is needed: my memory of fur coats needs something ticklish, playful,,, and a naive foreshadowing hint of sex... which just wasnt there.

I also tried "wet stone" which reminded me of CDG 2 ... but that also, didnt exactly click...

Sampling at the store is so hard, it really isnt very useful. I need a vile to play around with for a couple weeks to get a honest take.

I think EVERYONE, both sexes, need to sample these Tom Ford Private Blends. They have changed my life.:wacko::heart:

I find the whole idea of 'solid perfumes' to be so silly. I especially detest when they turn those containers into necklaces, or I should say medallions. You see so many girls wearing some, like Marc Jacobs Daisy ones, in NY during warmer months.

It is disgusting: applying it with your finger and smearing etc. Yuck.

I would happily spend the rest of my days selling CB I Hate Perfume door-to-door like an Avon lady. No kidding. I love that man's creations, he's like an American Proust of that which can not be written.

His single accords can be rather strange to sit by themselves as an everyday fragrance, but once you layer them...heaven

His perfumes are much more accessible and in the absolute form lasts for ages. I'm not really familiar with the water based versions, as I love the parfum too much

You can get 2ml samples on the ones you want to test...it costs a bit but def. worth it! Once you're familiar with them all you can mix and layer your own for a truly unique and gorgeous effect.

what is it americans and using fingers to apply stuff? when it comes to creams out of a jar, it tends to be the american ladies who scream "UNHYGENIC!!!!"

anywho, while i like cute solid perfumes (Kors got a cocktail ring out now with his latest frag inside), i like when frags develop and i don't think solids develop the same way a sprayed on frag would. the alcohol helps the particles move and go from one stage to the next.

Dear you should never remove facial or body cream from a jar with your fingertips. A sanitized spatula, everytime. I am OCD though about keeping as much bacteria out of my facial creams especially the more favorite ones.

Well I am not technically an American, but I hate applying things with my fingers. It feels so primeval.

i was brought up mostly in Europe and i don't think i've met a lotta fellow Europeans who hate to apply things by hand LOL. i guess it feels more..... sensual? idk.

i tried some solid perfumes and they just don't.... have sillage.

The only solids I've ever liked are the ones from Pacifica, they're super affordable ($9!) and smell delicious. The spray perfume layered over top makes the fragrance last all day. Good stuff!

Nothing wrong with applying creams/serums/cleansers to your face by hand but anything in a jar where oxygen and other microscopic bacteria can float in easily should be removed with a spatula so you're not cross-contaminating the cream with your fingers.

I definitely hate most any creme/liquid beauty product that comes in a pot-I'm a pump bottle fan myself, to be honest. I do like some solid perfumes though, because they are much more portable, they take up way less space in my purse, and it comes with a really good base so it's perfect for hotter weather days. I have a Pacifica one and a L'Occitane one and I can't live without. I always sanitize my hands before using the solid perfume, though.

How awful is this:
I was on a very tight schedule and I was practically running across Harrods to the perfume room with the Tom Ford counter. Though they had quite a selection I specifically asked for the "masculine" scented fragrances (thank you Tangerine)
The assistant said they weren't in . . :(!
All I got were several wrist sprays of the Dunhill exclusive-to-Harrods fragrance and Marc Jacobs Cucumber from the washrooms :(
Oh and I tried Comme des Garcons in Liberty.

I think they must be one of the only stockists of Tom Ford in London as they had three seperate Tom Ford fragrance counters in different places . . .

well, when you say "Harrod's", most people tend to think "London"
You've lost me. I have seen a photo of Tom at one of his counters inside Harrods, so I'm flabbergasted CryingDiamonds was told that they 'weren't in', especially if they have such stock that there are three different counters around the Cosmetics and Fragrances section/floor...I know Harrods is like the Neiman-Marcus of UK...Neiman's and Nordstrom is where they sell Tom Ford in U.S.
And Bergdorf's (owned by Neiman-Marcus) of course. But I must have every single last one of these scents.
The boy at the counter said he thought just by how I talked and described what I liked that I would go for the Oud Wood, and then went into this long 'schpeel' about classy elegant ladies who come by looking for something feminine for themselves and leave with a masculine smell...so, it's all personal.
