The Face Thread, the Q's and A's about Foundations, Primers, Powders...

Oh dear maybe it's time you threw it out... My NARS foundation is 3/4 full... I feel so horrible for even thinking about throwing it out. It's the best foundation I've ever used too... But I guess we have to put our health before money and beauty eh :p

i would reallly appreciate a conclear for under the eyes.

right now i am using MAC conclear (select cover up).
what i am looking for is a conclear that covers up my dark circles without emphasizing lines under the eye when i smile.

i feel like it is a loose-loose situation when using conclear under the eye. without i have dark circles and with it it makes my eye area looks more wrinkly when i smile. :(

^Always use loose powder under the eyes...and I tend to avoid putting on concealer where I have wrinkles, that means close to the eye.

Otherwise the Studio Finish concealer covers everything, but it doesn't look good on flash photography. That pisses me off. Can anyone recommend a concealer that doesn't light up on pics?

BTW there is a fantastic tutorial on undereye concealer. This really works.

thanks ida.

are you serious about the powder?

a make up artist did that on me and of course it looks great for shoots or for the night but i don't think that is flattering for real everyday life

^I am deadly serious. You should apply it with a light hand only where your wrinkles are (the lash line and slightly below) with a clean eyeshadow brush, or with a flat brush like in the tutorial. Gently press it, don't wipe, and only where your concealer has a tendency to crease.

And I'm talking regular loose powder, nothing with shimmer or highlighter in it. I don't see why that isn't suitable for day? I can highly recommend the one from Chanel. It's expensive, but very finely milled and it lasts forever. You get a huge amount.

thank you! i will try it later. i have never heared about that.

i have regular MAC loose powder. but i really want to try Chanel foundation and powder, too, since i heared so postive feedback about it

I've heard good things about Chanel foundations too! Too bad I don't use foundation

lucky you that you don't need foundation ^_^

oh, so i tried it. it looks good, but only when you really put it on the part that is very close to the bottom lash line.

what i tried aswell: before putting on the conclear i put on a tiny bit of strobe cream by MAC under the eyes which reflects the light. (it is too shiny for my oily skin otherwise). looks very good, when you put the conclear afterwards, because the shimmer still shines trough.

Smashbox high def healthy fx foundation. It's oil-free and it feels like you aren't wearing anything at all. Pretty good for a liquid foundation. The only liquid foundation I EVER liked.

As for primer, I love and highly recommend Urban Decay's eyeshadow primer potion. Smashbox Photo Finish Primer is a great foundation primer.

ppl who use Bare Mineral foundation, do you really need the kabuki brush to apply the foundation?! i have got quite a bit of brush already therefore i just want the product (which cost less then the brush, amazingly), even though the sales said the synthetic brush cannot grab the powder properly.

I don't use the kabuki brush jjbunny, I use the flawless face brush to apply the foundation, and the full flawless face brush for the mineral veil. I believe the kabuki brush offers a heavier coverage, and that isn't something I was wanting... I have tried using a different powder brush and it doesn't give the same effect as the bare minerals brushes, IMO.

I'm about to get a new foundation and I'm hoping for your advice.

My skin is quite pale, don't have acne, only some single spots from time to time.
Need something light, definitely not too heavy.
I'm not really into make up, the only products I use are: mascara, eyeliner and a blusher from time to time. Have been using a powdered foundation but realized it looks
awful on my skin.

Any suggestions? My financial situation isn't too perfect now, so I cannot spend more than £20-25.
Thanks.

If your skin is in fairly good condition, try a light liquid foundation. Chanel Teint Innocence is lovely (although not sure about the price but it is WELL worth trying if you can get a sample somewhere).

MAC Select Tint is quite nice too, as long as you get the exact right colour. Perhaps go to a few beauty counters and ask for some advice and samples, then you can try anything out before you purchase it if you've had trouble with your skin suiting paticular types of foundation.

Hope this helps..:flower:

nicestthing, if you don't like a "lot" of makeup , and have fairly good skin - perhaps you could try a tinted moisturiser instead of a foundation? I prefer this in summer when my skin is at it's best, provides a little bit of coverage without being too heavy. I also have very pale skin - my favourite TM is by Stila (sheer cover tinted moisturiser) in the shade 'bare'.

Have you tried Bare Minerals? I am a recent convert to the brand. (I'm a bit late, I know).

I cannot tell you how many foundations I have tried that were too dark or orange-y. Then I finally found Bare Minerals, which is perfect for my nearly translucent skin. It provides excellent coverage but looks and feels as if you are wearing nothing.

I used it when I attended a wedding a couple days ago, and I lost count of the compliments I received. I selfishly let people believe I just had beautiful skin. ^_^

jjbunny79- I use the smaller version of the "flawless face" kabuki brush. When you "buff" it, it looks really nice and I like that when you put it in the powder it doesnt grab as much as the bigger one.

I am in a similar situation to nicestthing actually. I haven't bought a new foundation for a long time and I really feel like I'd like to try something new soon.

My skin is also very pale and I have pink undertones. Generally my skin doesn't cause me problems (I mean, I don't usually have problems with being too oily or dry) but I do get some acne occasionally though it's at least not too bad.

I currently have Revlon Colorstay Active and I like the fact that it is relatively light coverage so it doesn't look like I'm wearing a face mask but sometimes I think I'd rather have just a little more coverage.

This time I think I'm more willing to buy something more expensive (but only if I hear that it really is worth it xD) but there are so many I haven't tried and I'm a bit overwhelmed already. I was really intrigued by the idea of the Prescriptives products being very undetectable but still covering well and I might try them or something like it.

So, fellow posters, what foundation do you think gives a light-medium coverage without being very obvious?

Thanks ^^
