The Face Thread, the Q's and A's about Foundations, Primers, Powders...

I have become a HUGE fan of Chantecaille future skin foundation. HUGE. I dont know what I was thinking to go away from it.

It matches my uber pale skin & is gentle for my cuckoo sensitive skin (tho I have beige/yellow undertones).

Its like ur skin u cannot tell your wearing foundation - Im serious about that too. I bought Le Metier and its awful (as expensive as Chantecaille).

I really like Chantecailles' founder and their whole "brand." I met them at a Bergdorf Goodman event and the owner was EXTREMELY pleasent and talked to customers about her products. I wanted to take her out for coffee and hear her thick French accent even more.

Go to store and try it - at the very least...!!!

i have always wanted to try chantecaille's foundations, but they don't come in shades dark enough for me...:(

i have been using chanel mat luminere with smashbox photofinish light primer and it's been working great!
don't have to blot my face mid way through the day, and my face isn't super super matte and cakey looking...

i bought bare escentuals matte the other day to try...
i'll let you know what i think (the regular one is way to glittery for me)...

So, fellow posters, what foundation do you think gives a light-medium coverage without being very obvious?

Are you after a liquid or a powder? I would suggest Bare Minerals foundation as it is light-medium coverage that you can build upon if you need heavier coverage some days. They do great colour matching for fair skin too.

^ Second for bareMinerals, the matte one though is a bit more heavier but still feels light on the skin. Just be sure to use a good primer otherwise I find it can exaggerate any sort of pours :flower:

And has anyone tired Clinique's Superbalanced Powder Makeup? I like the idea of the dispenser since mineral makeup tends to be a little messy but I have tried other such mineral foundations and were either too cakey or too heavy for my liking. I wounder how the shades are too?

Primer question: I use bareMinerals, and I'm gonna need some primer soon, but I'd love to get a more affordable brand. The bareMinerals primer isn't expensive, really, but I was just wondering- does a different brand of primer have the same results? Or should I just suck it up and by the Prime Time from Sephora?

Can anyone recommend a foundation that has:
  • Medium coverage
  • Good for sensitive and combination skin
  • Works well for pale to light beige skin and even increases the paleness (but doesn't look ghastly)
  • Is a liquid foundation
  • Isn't too overpriced. Up to about US$30
Thanks! :D I'm having so much trouble trying to find a suitable one and any advice would be most appreciated.

I'm after a very similar look to this:

So I was playing with the Diorskin Airflash at Sephora the other day and it was quick love... but I'm still trying to justify the $60 pricetag. I use Nars for just a lightweight everyday foundation but I'd love to get this for nights out and whatnot. But do any of you use it? I'm curious to know how long it will last, especially if I don't wear it everyday. I read one review on Sephora's website and someone said they wore it everyday and it lasted for 4 months, but that sounds too good to be true.

^4 months is very believable! It just depends on your foundation habits. Some people like sheer coverage, some people like to cake foundation on. Ever since my skin got better I've stopped wearing foundations, except on special occasions. I am convinced that mine will last over half a year!

By the way, the Dior Skin Airflash has been rated a 4/5 on Makeupalley. (Click here if you want the individual reviews - you might want to sort them by most helpful first!) Judging from the reviews, this foundation achieves the glowy, dewy runway foundation look. I've never tried it personally though, but I do trust the reviews on MUA because they've introduced me to so many amazing products!

I don't like the Bare Minerals primer, it broke me out :ninja:

I would suggest using a little of your mineral veil on a makeup sponge to dab over your nose/cheeks/forehead where you wanted the primer to go - before applying your BM foundation.. Should work just as well ;)

Hey does anyone know any good foundation that doesnt reflect in the camera? In australia hopefully because my face always comes out white even though its not in real life.. i know its either because of SPF or mineral so I'm petty much asking if theres any without SPF?

Which primer has the best oil control?
My face is super oily by the middle of the day. I am using NARS primer right now.

Thanks! :flower:

^I don't like the NARS primer at all... Nor the MAC. If you have oily skin you should stay away from silicon based primers. Have you tried the Shu Uemura UV Base? I'm actually picking one up today :D

Otherwise, the Paul & Joe primers always get great reviews. They work so well too. I used a few testers but never got to buying the actual product... I wasn't willing to spend that much money on a primer :p

^ You could try something designed specifically for oil control like Dermalogica's Oil Control lotion

^ Thanks for the suggestion :) But i researched and read some reviews online and it is not a great a product. Anyways thanks still (:

Well I use it a lot, and I like it.

Lots of brands have a similar product, I've heard good things about the DermaDoctor Tease Zone (I dont think that is the proper name, but something similar), I've also used Dr Brandt Pores No More which is a good primer that also helps keep oil at bay.
