The Face Thread, the Q's and A's about Foundations, Primers, Powders...

I have the same problem I've been having ever since I started wearing
make up. I can't find one single concealer that looks good on me.

I just bought Laura Mercier and I have the same prob, whenever I apply
concealer under my eyes it gets ' dry '.
And it's visible, so I'm better off without it. But I still want to cover dark
circles.
Anyone know of any concealer I can try or advice?

( I'm south asian with a yellow undertone btw ).

P.S MAC doesnt work for my skin

I haven't tried it but Instyle magazin voted Clé de Peau Beauté the best Undereye Concealer..I went with their top hydrating foundation and like it a lot..maybe you'll have similar luck with their under eye concealer ?

The Laura Mercier concealer you bought is that the square secret camouflage or the little round secret concealer ?
Ale told me he uses the square secret camouflage undser his eyes because he tends to be oily there ? But I think if your skin is on the dry side you should go for the little round one..secret concealer.

Thank you ambidextrous ... as usual you have all the answers ... are you a make-up artist??

im pretty sure this is the right place to post this..
so, can anyone recommend a concealer for hyperpigmentation(the red/brown marks left after acne)?

what's the best foundation that you have tried ?

I like MAC Studio Fix the most. Very easy to use, good color selection, great coverage and stays on.

So far I've tried:

MAC Select SPF Liquid Foundation
Clinique Perfectly Real
Lancome Teint Idole (Old Formulation)
Helena Rubinstein Illumination Foundation
L'Oreal Quick Stick
L'Oreal Translucide
Maybelline Non Stop
Maybelline Compact Powder
Maybelline 2 in 1 stick (now it's 3 in 1, but it was my first foundation, quite old version ;) )

i love my chantecaille future skin. gives me a satin finish and looks natural, not cakey.

MAC Studio Fix is SPF 35 ... so do u still wear it at night or are there non-SPF versions?? I'm a MAC newbie, so please tell me how you would go about applying Studio Fix. I've got pretty young skin so not sure if I need to go the whole concealer and foundation route. Although I really want a more polished and radiant look to my skin. I've been told by a MAC S.A to apply foundation with the MAC brush, the spritz with Fix+ and buff .... something like that. I'm a little confused if you can't tell.

The normal Studio Fix doesn't have SPF, maybe you read something like "NC35", thats the foundation shade, has nothing to do with SPF. Studio Fix is a foundation in powder form, so it has medium to full coverage IMO. I use it cos I've got acne prone skin and things to cover up, if you have good skin, you should use something more natural like Select Tint and then add some shimmer (Mineralize Skin Finish) or Bronzer or Shimmer Bronzer ;P depending on the color you choose

Hi all~ I use Anna Sui face powder and I absolutely LOVEEE it!

I have very oily skin and I never knew that it would be worse if I used cream or liquid foundation. I just recently bought the Anna Sui powder along with the gold butterfly compact and it works so well. It doesn't clog my pores and it has a wonderful rose scent... The compact is too adorable as well, with a purple puff.

I want to try the loose powder make up soon and I think it is wonderful that they have a loose powder compact. Has anyone tried this? I'm a big fan of Anna Sui's make up line =)

Has anyone tried Laura Mercier's Oil free foundation? People were practically tripping over themselves to rave about it on MUA, which half persuaded me to try it myself. But I want to make sure that it is really quality before I buy it as it is quite costly

If you are not sure if you are going to likeit, why don´t go to a LM counter and ask for a sample?
Either that or have the foundation applied to you to see if you like the result. ;)

I agree w. sofialuv - I heard the raves and went and got a sample - turned out my skin was way to dry for the oil free version, so I went back and got a sample of the hydrating foundation that LM makes - worked alot better for me..I don't use it everyday because it takes more time to apply (same goes for the oil-free version) than most other foundations.

Hehe, yes that's clever! :D But I don't think they offer samples, plus I sound so cheap when I ask for some and the shop assistants will just end up giving me dirty looks. I'll just get it put on my face. Oh yeh Hanne, I heard that it takes ages to apply and you need to use water for application :( Crap. Well has anyone tried any Dior foundations?

Aren´t you considering buying the foundation? Because if you are, you will have to go to a counter anyway! :p
Forget about the dirty looks of SA´s (they are only after comission and they better treat you well otherwise they won´t get any!) and get yourself some samples, just aproach the counter and say that "you are considering buying the oily free foundation but you never buy anything without a test first, because you simply like to try at home the foundations prior to actually buying them"

You will get loads of samples to try without the pressure to buy ;)
(sounds like a jingle!!! :D)

Lol, indeed! A pretty nifty jingle at that :D Thanks for the advice! I shall definitely hold my head high and demand some samples! (I'll let you know how that does)

I have a great Tip for all of you guys. I just discovered Prescriptives Magic Powder. You dust it over your foundation and your shadow and its like the last step for your face. But it really keeps your makeup on longer. Its really great because its shiny. The particles of shine looks like glitter but the effect it ask on your skin is this dewy, flawless look. I've tried everything and this product is the best. TRY IT
