The Face Thread, the Q's and A's about Foundations, Primers, Powders...

What type of primer is used for under eyes? Face or eye primer? In which case I would buy either MAC prep+prime or Urban decay potion. I used a liquid concealer but I've found that it still settles into fine lines and doesn't blend as seamlessly as I'd prefer. I avoid using cream based concealer for this very reason.

^Yep, you should use use face primer under your eyes, as using UDPP will probably make the area dry and wrinkly.

Yves Saint Laurent Perfect Radiant Touch is for what kind of skin? Combo or dry?

Foundation for rubbish skin

I am 36, still get occasional spots, have some open pores and faint acne scars and am still to find a foundation to conceal at least some of my flaws.

(I'm also finding that my skin is getting weird red patches just after washing - what is this?)

Over the years I have tried.....

Studio fix
EL Double Wear
Giorgio Armani Luminous
Prescriptives Matt
Illuminaire Fantastic Finish
Bare Minerals
Lily Lolo
Chanel Matt
Clinique superfit

to name but a few

Can anyone recommend something that will help me?

Thanks

^Ive finally sorted out my own terrible skin and the thing I have realised is that when you have crap skin the best thing is to try and keep your makeup and cleansing routing very simple. that means throwing out most of your products and sticking with a few that you know agree with your skin.

I think you should try to sort out the problems with your skin first of all instead of trying to mask it with make up. maybe the cleanser is too harsh which is resulting in the red patches. use a very mild cleanser and then splash your face with warm water [regardless of whether you are using a soap, lotion or the 3 in 1 cleansing cloths always rinse with water] and then use a moisturiser especially for irritated skin [Im using a fairly inexpensive range by A-Derma which you can find in the larger Boots stores and at garden.co.uk]

you could probably do with using a primer before applying foundation to tighten the pores and smooth your skin. The added bonus is that your foundation will probably last longer too.

There is no "one foundation suits all" so you are going to get a million and one different answers as to which foundation is best. However, if you sort out the problems with your skin then finding a foundation is going to be much easier [and hey, maybe you wont need one anyway!] in the mean time I think using a primer will be a great benefit. Next I would use a tinted moisturiser [Laura Mercier, Pescriptives & Bobbi Brown do some really good ones] and then use a creamy concealer [Jemma Kidd does an amazing one which you can blend to get the exact match] to hide the scars and spots. you can finish off with a dusting of powder or illuminating products depending on the look you're going for.

hope that helps :flower:

I'm searching for a good loose powder, any recommendations? :)

have you tried Everyday Minerals? it's supposed to be for sensitve skin and i also have very acne prone skin and it worked very well for me...try it. you can only get it through there website though.

This is definitely a thread I need to invest some time in and work my way through these 21 pages.

The Best Foundation

So, I recently took a trip to the Prescriptives counter, and discovered I'm crazy about Virtual Skin foundation. (I even did a blog post about it!)

I have combination skin and usually like a matte finish.

What kind of foundations do you use? Do you have other suggestions for me?

I use Revlon Colorstay is great or Makeup Forever Mat Velvet go to sephora and ask for samples.

I found the more I started to wear less makeup, the harder it was for me to use foundation... Now I use a tinted moisturiser (stila's oil free sheer cover) and I much prefer that...

shephora tinted moizturizer is good too.^
i have also a troubled skin, its sensitive, i have scars, uneven skin tone, ah, i dont even know what to do always. i dont use make up a lot and now my resolution is to make my skin look healthier,
tips? cheap products? what i can get from london and/or finland?
help needed!

I'm in love with Rimmel Recover Brightening foundation. It's seriously the best foundation i've ever used in my whole life! It has vitamin C & E so it protects and moisturizes and even though it's super light, it completly covers. I can't believe it's actually a drugstore brand (it's only $9!) and if it ever went up to $50+ i'd still buy it! Omg,sorry this totally sounds like an infomercial! LOL!
Anyways, for the past six months i've been using Jane Iredale Minerals foundation (it was $70) and found that it gave me dry patches around the nose and mouth and made my skin very oily and red. I'm really glad I found the Rimmel one. ^_^
i have thinking of getting that foundation, and by your recomendation i will :)
did it cover well?

nita- what is your complexion like? what about the scarring?
if your scarring isn't severe-think pitted and deep, I would HIGHLY recommend plain coconut oil- not the fragranced stuff with other ingredients but pure coconut oil... I think the stuff I have is cold pressed and organic but I dont know if that really makes a difference. I bought it at a health food store.

After I quit my last job and became poor basically*hehe* I had to stop splashing on fancy scrubs and moisturisers and such-which was hard until I noticed my skin was actually IMPROVING and healing much much much much more swiftly, and I cannot emphasise this enough! I just use diluted lemon juice to tone/exfoliate after washing my face with sls free soap and water and then I moisturise with the coco oil. I use a clarisonic sometimes when I take a shower and when I'm not feeling lazy I oil cleanse(raaaarely lol..) but the lemon juice/coconut oil combination made my skin really even and smooth way faster than anything else Ive used and it helps keep pimples and oiliness at bay too(i think its the lemon juice) and i really like saving an assload of $$$ and not having to spend a lot of time putting stuff on my face. but yes I should proably shut up now before i sound like a crazy coconut oil salesperson!
good luck if you decide to try it out:flower:

Thanks a lot :) ^
now i am using this oil wich should help, flexitol naturals, which should help, but not yet, i have this weird sensitive a bit dry skin. but time to time i get 1 or 2 zits and they lieve a mark, and i wanna get rid of them. also i ordered this
hope it helps, but there was no info how to use it

^^you use it only on pimples, it's for topical treatment..for the entire face there's effaclar k :flower:
