Rachel

All About Rachel

Fashionista Assignment: Jane Magazine
Hometown: Roslyn, NY
Age: 22
Experience: Sales assistant at Fitness Magazine, fashion public relations intern
Stand Out Traits: Manhattan girl, Ivy Leaguer, confident
Dream Job: Editor-in-chief of a magazine
Who is your style icon, Rachel? Think Janis Joplin meets Kate Moss meets Cameron Diaz. Not any one of them alone, but all three of them together.
What clothing items and brands are your staples?
I am the poster child for H&M. Most of my wardrobe honestly comes from there. For some reason, I also have a large collection of Louis Vuitton purses. And vintage jewelry is always a must. Huge, bug-eyed sunglasses are my favorites---I have about 4 or 5 pairs so far, some super cheap and some more expensive. I like to call them my "people blockers" as they cover so much of my face, you can't tell who I am!
What must-have wardrobe items should be in every woman's closet?
The LBD (little black dress), obviously. Actually, a couple of different LBDs – one long sleeve for day, one cocktail, and one sundress that can be a chameleon. I even have one saved from when I was a freshman in high school. (Eeeek!) And perfect black pumps that you may or may not be able to walk in – that, of course, is irrelevant.

Got a favorite handbag? Although I am currently toting a large black Botkier from a couple of years back, I'm lusting after an oversized red quilted Chanel bag with silver chain links.
What's your favorite pair of dressy shoes?
Right now, I'm loving my Steven by Steve Madden black patent leather Mary Janes --- because they look like Manolos!
What do you typically wear:
Relaxing around the house?
Sweats! Or hot pants/boy shorts with a simple tee. I just want to be comfortable, and that's when I really don't need to impress anyone but my TiVo, who loves me no matter what I wear!
To work?
Playful dresses, wide leg pants, skinny jeans with tees, flats or wedges are a must as we are on our feet all day in the fashion department.
Going out to parties/clubs?
THE UNIFORM (as I like to call it): Skinny jeans, black top and a couple of accessories with sky high heels. During the summer, I love to bust out the mini-skirt or mini-dress.
Shopping with friends? T-shirt, jeans and flats. I do not feel the need to impress sales girls – I'm a good dresser and don't need to get dressed up to buy clothes. I like to wear shoes without laces for sure as those are a pain to take on and off in the dressing room. But often you'll find me in sweats and my signature huge sunglasses to avoid contact with people (see above).
Gym/Working-out?
Fancy running shorts with pockets that perfectly hold my iPod Nano and my keys, and a ripped old t-shirt with 2 sports bras. Hey, the girls need as much support as they can get!

All About Andrew

Fashionista Assignment: Jane Magazine
Hometown: Philadelphia, PA
Age: 24
Experience: Menswear designer for Kenneth Cole and DJ
Stand Out Traits: Happy to be a man in the female-dominated fashion world
Dream Job: Designer/stylist
Who is your style icon, Andrew?
Top of the list would be Tom Ford and Ralph Lauren.
What clothing items and brands are your staples?
My metallic Converse sneakers, my Tom Ford glasses, Apple laptop and iPod.
Got a favorite accessory or jewelry piece?
I try not to wear too much jewelry, but you will usually catch me wearing a necklace with multiple charms on it. They make for great conversation pieces. One of my favorite jewelry designers is Justin Giunta.
What cologne do you wear?
Right now it's Marc Jacobs. But I tend to mix it up, depending on the girl I date.
What must-have wardrobe items should be in every man's closet? You need that one pair of denim jeans that fits you to perfection. My personal favorites are my AG's and Acne Jeans. A basic hoodie could be layered in with any sport coat or outfit. Your basic American Apparel tee in any trend-right color. A cotton white tailored shirt, the skinny tie and signature blazer.
What skin care products do you use?
This question should be more like what skin products do I not use! I try new products every chance I get. A few off the top of my head are Kiehl's, Clarins, Lab Series, Neutrogena and Task.
How about hair care products?
Every type of pomade out on the market. But my signature is my dry spike, achieved using Vavoom Freeze spray and a lot of patience.

Can you cook? I can honestly say I only really cooked once in my life. It was a three-course dinner on Valentine's Day for a special someone. On a side note, though, I am pretty bad *** with a microwave and toaster.
What's your favorite restaurant in New York?
Pastis. It's a great French bistro in the heart of Manhattan's meatpacking district. You can find me and the roommates at Freemans on the Lower East Side enjoying brunch on Saturdays. As for Sundays, we usually hit up the Square Diner in Tribeca. It's a great Greek diner that makes good gyro!

All About Nicole

Fashionista Assignment: Seventh House PR
Hometown: Queens, NY
Age: 27
Experience: Teacher, restaurant manager, school advisor, counselor
Stand Out Traits: Fan of colorful makeup, lives in duplex paid for by strict Italian parents which is adjacent to the family house
Dream Job: Anything in fashion

Who is your style icon, Nicole?
I don't strive to be like anyone but myself. My style to me is not style, it's just who I am. Whether I am rocking stuff I have designed, sweatpants, jeans, dresses, inexpensive items or designer, if it's comfortable and I love it, that's all that matters. Ashlee Simpson is cool. She can get dressed up elegant for a red carpet event and then just be hanging out in jeans and a Grail top.

What clothing items and brands are your staples?
I always have a pair of my Chanel sunglasses. I also have D&G and Dior, but most of my sunglasses are Chanel and I never leave the house without them. You can wear anything designer or non-designer, but if you have a nice pair of sunglasses and handbag, you are set. I have a vintage Chanel bag and all my Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton bags.

Do you have a signature scent Juicy Couture perfume. It's $300 a bottle, but so worth it.
What must-have wardrobe items should be in every woman's closet?
Definitely a black dress. A good pair of skinny jeans (I love Rock & Republic and even Urban Outfitters has some good fitting ones), A-line skirt, cute jacket in case it gets cold to put over your outfit, tunics, a basic white tee, and a silk blouse. Along with the black pieces of clothing – I wear a lot of black – I also love vibrant colors.
Got a favorite jewelry piece?
Last Christmas, my parents bought me a diamond cross and I have never taken it off since. It is my lucky charm. It's a few carats but it is so dainty and simple that one would probably never know. Since I was little, my parents have gone to the same jeweler, so a lot of my jewelry is from there. I designed a ring once and I took it to the jeweler and he made it for me, which was really cool.
What do you typically wear:
Relaxing around the house?
Victoria's Secret PINK collection sweatpants and a T-shirt, 2bFree sweats, Primp Sweats and my fuzzy pink slippers.
To work? Baby doll dresses and stretch tights underneath with heels or Tory Burch ballet flats. Jill Stuart, bebe, BCBG Max Azria, Betsey Johnson, Marciano.
Going out to parties/clubs?
If not a cute dress, then jeans, nice top and a pair of heels
Shopping with friends?
Juicy Couture sweat suit and flip-flops.
Gym/Working-out?
T-shirt, sweats, Nike Air Max.

All About Bridget

Fashionista Assignment: Seventh House PR
Hometown:Pittsburgh, PA
Age: 24
Experience: Buyer, events coordinator, fashion intern
Stand Out Traits: Experienced, cute, very driven
Dream Job: Editor of Vogue, stylist, creative director for a major fashion house

Who is your style icon, Bridget?
I love the idea of Kate Moss meets Audrey Hepburn. Kate is the effortless tomboy and Audrey is the feminine sophisticate. I also identify with the easy and effortless style displayed by French women. Color, proportion… it all works, but is very different from stateside style. If I had to choose one wardrobe to live with it would be that of Catherine Deneuve in Belle de jour. Love!
How would you describe your personal style?
My signature look is androgynous glam. It is luxurious, yet grungy at the same time. Super chic with messy hair or a T-shirt paired with diamonds. My personal style is the fashion version of Rauschenberg, an eclectic mix that continually adapts to trends while embracing the concepts of new designers.
What's your favorite pair of dressy shoes?
I love patent leather and the transparent vinyl platforms that Karl Largerfeld did for Chanel SS 2007. I cannot stop thinking about them. Cannot.
What is your favorite accessory or jewelry piece?
A huge ring by Erickson Beamon (love, love, love Erickson Beamon) and the leather bracelets Paige Novick makes for Paige Six.
What items and brands are your staples?
My staple brands include Sue Stemp, Sretsis, Stephenson, Yigal Azrouel, George T-shirts (I like the ones for boys), Alice McCall, Issa, Charlotte Ronson, Tony Cohen, Vivienne Westwood and random vintage pieces I find. I cannot forget my staple cut-offs. I had this amazing pair of Levi's for so many years---they were way too big on me and recently they fell apart. So sad!
What items do you skimp and splurge on?
I splurge on accessories: A bag, sunglasses, shoes. I skimp on things like tops or tees. I think a Hanes T-shirt with a YSL bag and Karen Walker sunglasses is an amazing outfit.
What is your favorite handbag?
I still love my green Balenciaga Motorcycle bag. I have had it for years and it's undeniably worn in. I think I love it even more than when it was brand new. I am dying for a quilted Chanel chain bag. It's a classic. Tina looks so cute with hers.
What must-have wardrobe items should be in every woman's closet?
Everyone should have a dress or suit that they feel beautiful in. I do not necessarily think it has to be black. They should also have something that they really want, but probably couldn't afford. Just for the happiness factor.
What is your skin care routine?
I wash my face in the morning and at night, and I always have to exfoliate. Especially when I go spray tanning. Sometimes it turns me orange, so I am really trying to stop the addiction! I am all about facial moisturizers. I use Kiehl's, Sisley and Borba. I always use Cetaphil. It's an amazing beauty secret you can get at Kmart!

What's your favorite makeup?
I swear by MAC Strobe cream. I am obsessed with it. Perhaps too obsessed at times! I use the glimmer shimmer (even though the best shade was discontinued, ahem). Nars bronzer, Too Faced concealer, Too Faced "Dirt Bag" eye shadow, black eyeliner and that Maybelline mascara with the pink bottle and green wand. You know the one I'm talking about!
What about haircare products?
I am so bad at fixing my hair. It is always in knots. Bumble and Bumble seems to help it, but I am very open to suggestions!

Dream Job: PR director for a major fashion house

Who is your style icon, Janjay?

Sarah Jessica Parker, Beyonce, Nicole Richie.

How would you describe your personal style?

My gold Nine West flip flops --- they go with everything.

I am all about healthy hair that has a nice luster to it, so I religiously use L'Oreal's conditioning high shine polisher serum.

I love to wear flats with jeans or casual dresses that are easy to slip out of to try on clothes.
Relaxing around the house?
I don't work out that often. I'm too lazy. I totally need a personal trainer. But when I occasionally go running, I wear soccer shorts and a sports bra.

All About Tina

Fashionista Assignment: FLIRT! Cosmetics
Hometown: Windsor Locks, CT
Age: 24
Experience: Public relations intern, fashion intern, event coordinator

Dream Job: Fashion event coordinator
Who is your style icon, Tina?
Sarah Jessica Parker for her confidence. And Sienna Miller… everything looks so fab on her!

Where do you love to shop in "real life" and online?
Before I moved to Hoboken, it was Topshop in London. Nordstrom.com is my favorite online store.
Got a favorite accessory or jewelry piece?
My favorite accessory is my quilted, black Chanel bag. If my apartment caught on fire, I'd reach for my Chanel bag before reaching for the door. For jewelry, it's my mother's gold ring that I wear on my pinky finger. Oh, and my super coverage Gucci sunglasses!
What must-have wardrobe items should be in every woman's closet?
A pair of jeans that make you feel like a queen and a pair of killer heels.
What's your favorite pair of casual shoes?
Jack Rogers in every color.

My discontinued Estée Lauder lip gloss in Winter Beach. My Laura Mercier lipstick in Discretion. And my newest fave is FLIRT! Nude Beach lip gloss.
Do you have a signature scent?
Certain scents are for different times in my life. I wear them and they bring back many memories. Right now I love, love, love Penhaligon's Artemisia fragrance.
What hair care products do you use?
Can't live without hairspray from Sebastian!

I still can't believe Andrew is straight. When I used to watch the other show he was on, I loved him so much. I wish I could watch this show too.

It was on TLC. 3 designers would compete to make another outfit out of what someone already had in there closet. I think someone mentioned it on here before. When I see it I'll post it.

I heard that Bridget and Andrew had My Space pages but I can't find them :( has anyone??

The socialite revolution is fully upon us, and make no mistake: it will be televised. At a "suicide awareness" party hosted last night by Kristian Laliberte, the paunchy P.T. Barnum of the fashion publicity set, no less than four cameramen turned out to document the proceedings. A sign outside the soirée—held at the Upper East Side apartment of former Dalton English chair Anisha Lakhani—alerted partygoers that, by entering, they were consenting to have footage of their appearance used for "TV production purposes." Not that most attendees seemed to mind. For most of the evening, a team from Disney filmed guests (clad head-to-toe in white, as per the party's invite) sipping Chardonnay and munching on grapes for a reality show titled The Fashionista Diaries, slated to air on the SOAPnet this summer.
For the series, producers have placed six assistants in entry-level fashion jobs around New York. Presumably, cat fights, work-related slip-ups, and unintentional hilarity ensue. At last night's event, two of the six participants—Andrew Kanakis, installed as an assistant to Jane editor in chief Brandon Holley, and Bridget Helene, given a gig at Seventh House PR—were present. "It's tough, because they're making us work, like, long hours, and we have to answer to people," laments Helene, a slender 24-year old brunette. "Plus, we all worked so hard to get to the top of our fields. Having to do this stuff is like starting over."

Mr. Laliberte, as was reported in the Observer today, also aspires to reality show infamy, though he has yet to secure a commitment from a network or even make a pilot. Who's the target audience? "I don't actually know," he offered, "but I'd watch."

As for the "reality" element of these shows ... well, use your own discretion: Ms. Helene complained that it was taking her "forever" to leave the party because the camera crew had to film five different variations.

In Post 55, I think it is hysterical how at 24 years old, Bridget makes it seem like she is a seasoned veteran and feels like she is starting over. Starting over from when? 3 months beforehand?

I totally read the spoiler. I am too impatient. ;)
